ASMR

Recommended Posts

So I noticed there wasn't a thread for this yet and I thought, "I can't be the only person that listens to ASMR".  I doubt there's anyone that doesn't know what this is anymore, but in case there's someone out there that has never heard of ASMR, it stands for "Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response", or basically a tingly sensation you get in response to audio or visual stimulation.

I started watching ASMR videos around 2015 when they were still relatively new and there weren't a ton of youtubers doing it. But now there's a huge influx of ASMR artists and all kinds of categories. It seems like a lot of early ASMR-tists focused a lot on role plays like "a day at the spa" or "visiting a doctor", but nowadays I've seen a lot more channels of people just experimenting with sounds.

Here's a list of some of my favorites:

【希乃】のんちゃんねる

Spoiler

She has, what I think, the most relaxing and cute voice. She's very versatile too sometimes doing sound focused videos and other times role play videos with some really solid performances.

Latte

Spoiler

Latte does a ton of role play videos and quite a lot of different kinds. I've seen her videos range from "spa day" to "secret agent". I'm not always into role play videos, but her gloves sounds with face touching video is one of my top favorites of all time.

Puffin

Spoiler

Puffins another great newer ASMR-tist too. I don't watch her a lot, but she has a really calming voice. I find this video really relaxing and love the hand movements. She does some other kinds of videos like trying on clothes videos or playing video games, which personally don't really do it for me.

I've seen a lot of people dismiss ASMR as some weird fetish or creepy interest, but a lot of the appeal for me IS in the fact that it's relaxing, good for falling asleep to, and seeing people do some pretty creative things.

What are some of your favorite ASMR-tists and triggers?

I don't watch many ASMR videos with people. My favourite channel is ASMR Rooms, she does a lot of Harry Potter themed cinemagraphs (images with small animations, particle fx and sounds). There are quite a few channels doing that kind of thing now with different ambient themes. Of course, the most famous sound is fire crackling, but I think it's overused. Homey/nature sounds boost my productivity and concentration when drawing or writing. I'll link a couple of my favourites below.

I used to think  those mukbang asmr videos were gross, but then I fell into the Instagram hole of accounts that just compile snippets of videos in that genre. I got addicted, not only for the sounds but because I also love food and it's a good opportunity to see/imagine what certain things taste or feel like. I've been on an Instagram detox for a month now since I was spending way too much time watching people eat.

Bruuuuh.....bless this thread 🙏

I first found ASMR by accident when i was trying to look for some relaxing videos like soft spoken reading. Sadly, the first channel I stumbled upon has deleted their videos, but I found a lot more that I enjoyed, and now there are days when I absolutely need ASMR to help me relax and sometimes help me sleep. Although it's since brought up a cancerous community of either the same copycat roleplay vids, people turning ASMR into a complete fucking joke, or camwhores eating their mics (sick fucks), and I can understand why some people might be weirded out by it (men whispering isn't exactly a tingle for me), ASMR is actually helpful to a select number of people and expands on people's creativity when it comes to experimenting with sounds or even practice on filmmaking.

I watch Latte's videos a lot too! Her voice is very cute and she makes a lot of effort in making her videos look as professional as possible, especially recently. Speaking of filmmaking, Goodnight Moon is one of the best. Her voice and fall aesthetic are very relaxing, and she definitely creates videos with an original story such as her Babblebrook series. She also makes vlogs of her trips that are just as relaxing to listen to (with chill acoustics in the background) while watching the peaceful scenery.

Spoiler

I definitely recommend watching this as well if you're into unintelligible whispers and abstract scenery.

Angelica is another ASMRtist that I've been enjoying lately, although I found her through a meme circulating around on twitter which leads to the video below, which is actually quite funny. I don't watch her as much as I do others, but she has quirky ideas for her videos and some of them come across as meme material, but they come off very original and tongue in cheek and she tends to portray historical characters, speaks in a soft-spoken voice rather than a whisper, and sometimes does bilingual (english/spanish) videos.

Spoiler

PPOMO is another Korean ASMRtist I really like. Her videos are so high quality and she experiments with a lot of sounds. She also does a lot of roleplays and has even done some cute funny videos as well.

Spoiler

I also really like hatomugi. Her videos are basic, but they're always made high quality and she's even put out an ASMR CD which can be listened to on iTunes, Spotify, and can be purchased from Amazon or Village Vanguard.

Spoiler

Somehow I always lump her in with Karin ASMR. Karin's videos are lower quality but she has a nice voice and I usually enjoy her videos a lot more. She's been doing ASMR for a long time.

Spoiler

ASMR Surge is one of the few male ASMRtists I like. His videos are extremely high quality and are focused mainly on unique sounds from military MREs, various objects that aren't common in ASMR videos, etc. He also likes to tell stories of his life in the video descriptions, such as when he got his Commodore 64.

Spoiler

Cosmic Tingles was the first real ASMR channel I got into. She basically does anything from roleplaying, relaxing gameplays, weed, cooking, meditation...she does it all.

Spoiler

SURPRISE ASMR DOG!!

Ear eating ASMR is awkward but I have no problem with people who enjoy it 🤷🏻‍♀️. I also have no problems with Camgirls or whatever. Everyone is allowed to do it.

Sexual ASMR should be reserved for PH or Reddit not YT

I'm sometimes into ear eating. I think like 90% of those videos are a bit extra, but there's like 1 or 2 I actually like and find relaxing.

I'm indifferent about camgirl asmr, but a majority of them are boring and I don't think they make good ASMR, so I ignore those videos.

I'll update more whenever I get back from work but these are some of my favorite ASMRtists.

Yooo I love Hatomugi. I love that she's more sound focused rather than role plays. Ppomo is great too.

It's crazy how so many ASMRtists are producing such high quality videos. Like, Latte's last video: daaaaaamn. She apparently filmed it with some studio or something.

I've not usually a fan of eating sound videos, but you've piqued my curiosity. The Harry Potter ambiance ones sound unique, can't wait to check them out

I guess. I remember one pornstar did some ASMR on YT and it was the same thing over and over again and I got bored of her. But hey, at least she has an audience 🤷🏻‍♀️

ASMR is admittedly weird but I somehow enjoy it from time to time.

Also this guy is great.

I watch Ephemeral Rift too sometimes! His ASMR Asylum series is really great!

I also started watching in 2015, I'm only really a fan of the general stuff, doctor, hairdresser, make up / brush sound...

But I like Olivia Kissper's earlier asmr / lucid dreaming meditation videos. Now she seems to do more self help stuff.

My favorite channels are やっても and Lipstick CHANNEL, LPC /まさよし is an actual hair dresser and he doesn't do any of the annoyingly slow movements it feels natural and he usually talks quietly like normal, he also keeps all the natural background ambience like fans and cars driving by, although lately he seems to be trying out the other trends...which kinda sucks, his draw on your face / mannequin make up / haircut vids are the best.

There's also a newer ASMRist who does similar fast natural movements though his videos are short, Reyong ASMR
Others:
Massage ASMR (not actually massage lol, did a lot of soft tapping / tibetan singing bowls, his old haircut vids are great), BABY ASMR...a lot of my old favorites just stopped making videos / switched to the new stuff I hate like mouth sounds / eating noise, because of misophonia.

God I just love it when ASMR videos are so professionally done, they're almost cinematic *___*

Idk why, but cooking/cafe settings also relax me, whether it's a show from the Food Network or in ASMR vids.

Or in this case, it's fake food.
