sarahphinas 0 Posted January 6, 2019 Hey! I'm new to the forum! Stumbled across the site a couple days ago, and I wanted to know if other people felt the same way or noticed this too. (PLEASE, link me to the thread if this topic already exists!) Has anyone else noticed the increasing usage of a harpsichord-like sounds in J-rock/V. Kei songs? If possible, it would be great if we could pin point the exact time when this trend started arising. The first time I really noticed it being used a lot was in songs by Royz, but below I'll link some quick examples of what I mean. Sick2 - CRAZY TOKYO (1:33) Royz - Egoist (1:18) (more recently) Razor - Knot Invisible (1:15) Was there a specific group that started using this sound a lot in their music and it branched out from there, or am I just over-analyzing things.. Himeaimichu 1535 Posted January 6, 2019 (edited) Harpsichords have been somewhat of a thing in Visual Kei since the origin of TanbiKei (Vkei bands that have European themes like Malice Mizer or Versailles). Malice Mizer was pretty well known for using harpsichords and other European instruments in order to fit with their Baroque theme (GackT era) or Victorian theme (Klaha era). I wouldn't say it's a trend but more of a recurring theme that pops up every so often, since lots of bands today are still heavilly inspired by Malice Mizer, Versailles, Lareine, Moi dix Mois, etc. My favourite example would be it's use in Vasalla's Yurikago. However, the band most notable for Harpsichords is Moi dix Mois. Almost every song they make uses an organ, orchestra, or harpsichord. Jigsaw9 6783 Posted January 6, 2019 Yeah, Moi Dix Mois is pretty much 'Programmed Harpsichords Non-Stop: The Band'. Not sure whether they had an influence on these newer bands tho. 1 2 Arkady, sarahphinas and Doesn'tEvenGoHere reacted to this
sarahphinas 0 Posted January 6, 2019 Thanks for those vids! Yeah, I figured it would have been just a common reoccurring theme in most songs, but I was curious as to where the theme originated. Totally makes sense that more modern bands get influenced from the sounds in Malice, Versailles, and Moi Dix Mois songs. Thank you!!
