Ever missed out on seeing someone live?

Recommended Posts

I was gonna go see the esteemed Kamijo in London last month, but I fell out with the person I was gonna go with and, given my terrible sense of direction and the high crime rate, I didn't fancy wandering the streets of London at 7pm on my own, so I didn't go. I was really upset and told a couple of my relatives about it, and they told me everyone misses out on a concert opportunity at some point or another and I shouldn't be too downhearted. I think it'd be interesting to hear about any opportunities you might have missed out on.

When I was really young I missed out on seeing Miyavi because I wasn't old enough to go. Pretty sure I cried about it and cursed the world for having age restrictions, but since then he's been back here about 10 times and I no longer have interest in his music lol.

More recently, I finally bought tickets to see Kero Kero Bonito locally (they tour rarely and it's always in London), but then I had surgery out of the blue and had to miss out on them since it was a shitty venue with nowhere to sit. Maybe one day.

Damn, that sucks! I hope you get to see them some day.

I missed seeing andymori on one of the early Next Music from Tokyo tours. Was too close to another event to convince my friends to go with me, and I was too shy to go to the concert on my own. Plus I didn't really know their music that well and I was a bit nervous since I'd never been to an event like that.

A year or two later I ended up really falling in love with them, and they disbanded not too long after, so I still regret it a bit.

That's always the way, isn't it? They always gotta disband. I'm gonna try to see as many J-rock artists as I can if they're in England because they don't come here often and they always disband so early. I get that they always have their reasons for doing so, but it's still sad. I was heartbroken when DIV disbanded.

Anyways, I hope you can go to some more concerts in the future.

I missed out on the gazette when they did an american tour, I wasn't paying attention to vk at the time. I regret it even if I was unaware though, it doesn't seem to have gone over too well, I heard the band was unhappy with the conduct of overseas fans and as a result I guess they're unlikely to come back. Seeing them next time I visit Japan is always an option, but I'd prefer to see a smaller band/s.

I think I heard something about them having to cancel lives because of fans being too rowdy. It happens a lot in the VK/J-rock fandom, for some reason. I remember reading about Yo-ka from DIAURA having to tell his fans to at least act like civilised adults if they weren't going to get along.

Do you see bands in Japan a lot? I'd love to go someday, but I've never left England.

A few years ago I missed out on seeing Gackt and I still feel horrible about it. I can’t even remember why I didn’t go as I don’t recall any conditions being unfortunate for me to go. I still really, really regret it as he is likely not going to tour like that again (or even release new music at all).

Damn, sorry to hear that. I hope you can see other artists you like in the future. :(

I don't, I've only been once and it was recently(May of this year), but I plan on going back asap because it was an amazing experience.

I missed seeing Vidoll when they toured overseas. I hadn't even known about them at the time, but I still regret not going (or knowing about it) since they disbanded a couple of years afterwards.

Clash Against Commercialism (ANTI-FEMINISM, Rentrer en Soi, 12012, the studs) got cancelled after I bought tickets/arranged travel, it's not my fault but I resent this happening constantly lmao

I missed seeing lynch. in 2009 because of a flight delay, also missed an instore live they did in 2013 when I had to fly back home on that day...

I constantly miss out on shows, cuz I'm an antisocial twat who changes his mind at the last minute about going to a gig (and then I hear later that the particular live was awesome, lol). My latest in this long line of regrets is passing on Bob Log III's gig, even though I've been excited about him coming here again for months... screw my brain I guess.

I missed D'espairsRay when they came to Atlanta in 2008 for the Taste Of Chaos tour with MUCC and The Underneath (formerly Transtic Nerve, now Defspiral). Unfortunately, that was my only chance to see them before they disbanded!

I miss out on several "must-see" concerts weekly tbh (as well as other gigs I'd love to attend to), and it's been like that since I first started going on concerts some 15 years ago. Sometimes because I can't get a day or two off because of work, sometimes because I don't want to travel to where the concert is and sometimes because I can't afford it (well, I always can afford whatever the fuck I want, I'm just too cheap so spend money). Shit happens. So is life. No big deal. If I miss out on the next 5 gigs I want to see, which I most certainly will, there will always be 5 new one at another point and so on. No biggie.

Huge girugamesh fan here, missed out on seeing them on their last EU tour 2 years ago and I will forever regret it.

I've only gone to lives where my friends were interested in most of the bands, not myself.

Combine that with being antisocial af & having really sensitive ears (I have to wear earplugs so I don't go deaf for a week.)

I missed out on OOR, but they were playing with a bunch of teeny-bopper bands.

RiR was in DC, but I wasn't keen on driving there myself. Also, not a fan of anime cons.

I want to see a prog/math rock concert or another bluegrass one at some point. They're less taxing on the ears compared to metal and deathcore.

That one time when Puffy AmiYumi performed in Dallas earlier this year. I kinda wanted to go because they were my gateway to Japanese music, but I didn't feel comfortable going alone, and I have no friends anyway so :)))

I feel you. 💔

I was gonna go see Girugamesh, when they were touring the EU, because they played in a venue close to me, but life happened and I had to spend money on more important stuff.  Then after I bought what I needed and had no money left for the ticked, they announced they're disbanding.

Recent one was Dir en grey's live. Same story with life happening and being without money for the ticket.

I used to miss out a lot of lives because going to the other city alone was too scary for me, but now I'm used to it.

I missed out on not only seeing but possibly photographing Behemoth in 2010. They had to cancel because the vocalist became very very sick, but I still got to see the other bands, most noteably Watain. I also got to take photos and it's pretty much my fav set. Behemoth finally came back to my city a few days ago, but this time around I just couldn't afford the ticket after all the bloody Ticketmaster fees. Also missed the final Slayer tour for the same reason. Hopefully I'll get another chance for Behemoth.

Can't think of any VK ones offhand.. I got really lucky with bands I liked either playing in Dallas or Houston.

I missed MUCC quite a few times. when they had their world tour in 2015 I was happy when I saw their tour date for Germany but I was in London that time. Then I saw that they're playing in London as well - bad for me, I was back in Germany then. Luckily I managed to see them in Paris then after 5 years of missing their concerts.

I also missed ParanoidCircus when I was in Japan and thought "oh well, lets go next time" ... to bad they disbanded before that could happen.
Earlier this year I missed a show of Crossfaith, but only because I was on tour with another band.
I also missed some bands on purpose when going to a concert in Japan, simply because I didn't want to see them. So I left the hall earlier.

Whoever you heard this from straight up lied to you. I saw them in NY and Ruki was quite pleased, surprised at how "crazy" the crowd was and mentioned it several times during the performance lol. Even in the interviews there's clear interest that they want to come back.

I missed DIR EN GREY the last time they were in the states due to financial reasons and probably not being able to get the time off of work. I can't really remember anyone else VK related. There's quite  few american bands i regret not seeing for more or less of the same reasons.

AWW FUCK MAN ME TOO!

If I had known that they were going to end activities after that tour, then I would have gone even if it was by myself. Literally the one chance that I had to see one of VK's greatest bands gone.

Also, I didn't know Defspiral were actually The Underneath or Transtic Nerve. I would have found that out had I gone lol.
