Hmm let's see!

I really wasn't planning on paying much attention to the new single but since I quite liked the title track, I thought I'd give it a few spins. FADELESS is a nice STACKED RUBBISH-like throwback, nothing fancy but has some nice parts here and there - sure, it's not rocket-science music but it somehow strikes a chord with me more than their last several outputs. It's regular "good ol' GazettE" I guess; they did much better but it's still a nice average. QUIET, on the other hand is approximating their "boring average" side, nothing much to say here (too long, snooze-inducing, tho the bridge part is pretty neat I gotta say). Lastly, FORBIDDEN BEAVER (dat title) is here to represent the more uptempo rowdy face of the band, again a safely average song, sort of like a dumbed-down Ruder on sleeping pills. It's not too terrible, tho I don't think I'll be playing it again anytime soon.

:2.5: | average single, tho "average" in this case kinda means "hey, I expected a lot worse!"

Let's see...

1. FADELESS

A classic "gazerock" track. I am pretty surprised since expected a lot worse!

7/10

2. QUIET

This song gets boring quickly.

4/10

3. FORBIDDEN BEAVER

Another one which gets boring quickly, but a bit better than the previous one.

5/10

Overall

Well,I expected a lot worse, but a part of me was expecting a lot more. FADELESS is the only decent track.

I think that Gazerock is now dead.

5/10

QUIET 7/10

FADELESS

After hearing the previews, I was sure I will like it (even though it's not perfect & could be much better without overusing the female vocals in the chorus). Their A-sides rarely disappoint me. 7/10

QUIET

Expected this to be a lot better since I really enjoy their ballads, but it's just plain boringness to me so far. Hope it will grow on me though. 4/10

FORBIDDEN BEAVER

Couldn't listen to it without feeling awkward the whole time. 2/10

It seems like we're in agreement for the most part:

The album had nothing that really grabbed me. The guitar hooks were boring (and by boring, I literally mean something a 12 year old could easily come up with), they stagnated in the same tempo (except for Forbidden Beaver; but in that case they sacrifice anything different for the usual GazettE chorus where they speed it up for a few measures), female vocals where there clearly didn't need to be any, the same lyrics by Ruki singing about the same topics he ALWAYS does: sex and love lost, and the same song structure with similarly placed solos.

This is the definition of mediocre; but most importantly it seems like my greatest fears have been realized: They sacrificed their originality to draw back into an older sound. They're doing nothing different. They're sticking to safe songwriting with nothing to show for it.

5/10

Wow so boring. But I expected that anyway tbh.

FADELESS: For real? As bad as the title track "Dizzy" off Nigthmare's new single also released today. Can't decide which is worse tbh. It almost sounds like the same song, except for each song drained in each band's typical sound. Really awful mess.

QUIET: Boring, no inspiration but bearable.

FORBIDDEN BEAVER: Err... makes no sense. Just like the rest of the single.

Kind of begging the commercialism, no?

Joke single tbh. Deleted. Don't want to ever come across those songs again.

Now to give the coupling songs off Nightmare's "Dizzy" a listen. Jesus, I'm bracing myself...

Agree! 100%

More I think though, "they sacrificed their originality" for the money and commercialism... knowing what Ruki's like anyway. Hmph.

Score: :2.0: | When mediocre is a step up for a band, you know they're in the corner

FADELESS is the result of two flop albums backed by a hefty budget from a label that desperately wants something by this band to stick. It's a throwback to an older era for the sake of appealing to fans who don't like dial-up in their GazettE, and as such it gets caught up in retracing the footsteps of yesteryear instead of starting from square one. In short, it is exactly the song we've always wanted but never wanted realized. Now we have to take off our rose-tinted vision correcting glasses and contend with the fact that the GazettE were possibly always this mediocre with the occasional stroke of genius. I can enjoy FADELESS because it's exactly what Ruki said we would get: a 2013 STACKED RUBBISH clone complete with all the gimmicks. It still goes down better than anything on TOXIC or DIVISION, mostly because the rebranded alternative metal sound called "Gazerock" is safe at it's core and I know what I'm getting myself into when I indulge in my guilty pleasure.

So why so low? Well, that would be the fault of the two other tracks on this release.

QUIET is a waste of five minutes of your life, lacking the buildup of tension and emotion critical to a successful GazettE ballad. It meanders on aimlessly, going nowhere and accomplishing nothing. It's more contrived than Cassis, more subdued than Nakigahara, and feels like PLEDGE with all the interesting bits stripped out. It's the worst ballad they've ever done by a wide margin. FORBIDDEN BEAVER is a step down even from that. The lyrics are almost entirely in Ruki's slurred English about some raunchy, sexual subject that probably looked better on paper than it sounds on CD. I also caught a bit of DIVISION poking the tip in here and there, which makes the entire song sound confused because it doesn't know what it wants to pull influence from more. You can safely skip both of these songs.

I'll just pretend that they're saving all the good songs for the album and they needed a single to generate the appropriate hype.

Seriously...this release was probably one of their worst since TOXIC. Fadless by itself was just a boring track, and the only bside that was actually worth listening to was QUIET and that song wasn't even all that. Even in the PV the band (especially Uruha) looked hella bored even with all the flashy stuff on. Even though TOXIC was a horrid album, the singles leading up to it were not as bad as this. Hell even RTE was better than this mess. However, Ill chalk it up to this release being just the promo for this album which should be better than this single.

I've said this in the announcement thread of this album and I'll say it again since the album is very close: This is the GazettE's last chance to prove if they've completely "sold out for commercialism" due to SONY or if they (everyone else other than Ruki) has it in them to write music that we haven't heard 20 some times before even though they're using influence from NIL and SR because those were really well executed albums. If Beautiful Deformity sucks, its a wrap for the GazettE. Besides the deluded fangirls (yes I'm talking to you), the fans who actually listen for the music will drop like flies.

I actually really enjoyed the single. It's a nice throwback to old GazettE. It feels like i'm back in 2007. Sure, FADELESS isn't anything too impressive but it's nice to hear GazettE without the electronics. QUIET wasn't even listenable, to be honest. It's quite boring and couldn't keep my attention. FORBIDDEN BEAVER is just another B-side we expect from a GazettE single - it's nothing groundbreaking but still fun to listen to - only once.

All in all, I give it a 6/10. The A-side is worth a handful of listens and i'll probably enjoy listening to it again on the new album.

the GazettE definitely made a change with the release of FADELESS. What I mean is: they went from bad to boring/mediocre.

Obviously I really didn't like DIVISION because it was such a huge mess. It was all over the place and it felt incomplete and rushed. FADELESS is better than DIVISION (not that it's so hard to make something better than DIVISION), but is mediocre at best.

The title track's main riff/opening riff is almost completely similar to LUNA SEA's Sweetest Coma Again. Now I do love me some LUNA SEA, but this song was far less impressive than Sweetest Coma Again. Like I said, the reason why I'm not saying "I hate it" is probably because it sounds much better than the horrid mess that was DIVISION (which is kind of sad). Anyway, the title track is decent, but nothing outstanding. It IS a step in the right direction though. FADELESS has some nice ideas and parts in which I think "hey, they actually could've done something more with this", but at the same time I thought the song would've sounded a lot less "blergh" if they would've left out the female vocals. They are misplaced, don't fit the song AT ALL and are too loud around the chorus. Ruki, pls put your ladies on stand-by. Also lol @ Reita's bass solo at the end "HEY GAIZ I'M STILL IN THE BAND".

QUIET has (just like FADELESS) a few nice ideas and apart from the way the guitar sounds it sounds a bit like a DIM song. However, it drags on too long in my opinion. It's a decent ballad (better than all ballads on the last two albums in any case), but not enough for me to be satisfied with it.

FORBIDDEN BEAVER sounded kind of funny at first but listening to it again it makes me cringe. It's like a DIVISION left-over and reminds me of Hedoro . All in all it's so disorganized, I can't tell how the song progresses at all and the solo just sounds unimpressive and all over the place. I guess this was the track they just put in to make it three tracks in which they didn't put much effort.

Overall: the A-side has some nice ideas going on that COULD be promising when executed properly. I hope they did more with the other songs on BEAUTIFUL DEFORMITY than they did with the B-sides on FADELESS.

Just like Zess, I'm starting to wonder why I keep having these high expectations while perhaps the GazettE was always mediocre to begin with. I probably won't be the only one blaming DIM for that. I guess that for me it's their magnum opus, and I probably will have to stop hoping they will ever release something as great as that again.

Omg yes! Thinking that this is the same band that wrote DIM disappoints me so much. That's a fantastic album, their best, like you said. I also remember the song "In The Middle of Chaos" like a goodbye to this creativity as the lyrics go something like: "this freedom we have may be taken away from us one day". And tbh, I think they did go downhill after that...

rare behind the scenes of the recording/writing-process! raw creative talent

------------

...

Aoi: ok so thats verse done, now for bridge, how about 5th and 7th fret?

Uruha: already used 5th and 7th on 12 other songs, how about the other way round, 7th and 5th this time?

Aoi: 7th and 5th it is.

Uruha: what about the rhythm?

Aoi: don't know, could you hand me that guitar there please?...

Uruha: 1-2-3-4 recording...

Aoi *random strumming*

Aoi: hmmn, i guess that'll have to do

Uruha: fine by me. now for the chorus...

...

---------------

Bonus Round: Conception

Gaze-Headquarters *phone rings*

Sony: hello this is sony, how about a new single?

Gazelock: ok, how much should it be?

Sony: about 13minutes of "Song" would be cool

Gazelock: 13mins of "Song", gotcha. call again by tomorrow same time...

---------------

well, sheesh, i guess i even preferred the gazestep over this trainwreck of mediocrity, that was at least trying something (failing, but still...)

i wouldn't say they were always this boring, but suddenly after DIM they must've thought they'll just stick to that concept and not caring anymore.

ever since they made sort of the same three songs over and over again. Everybody loved headacheman on DIM (and rightfully so) but every following release was plastered with headachemans (Vortex, BeforeDecay and tons more where i've forgotten the name) everywhere. those weren't necessarily worse songs, but we already have that, no need for another.

then there's the "upbeat heavy fun" song (vermin, hyena, clever monkey, beaver...) and the unavoidably ballad and that's it.

actually that wouldn't even be that bad if they at least formed those kind of standard songs around some interesting sounds and ideas, but as already pointed out by others they seem to just make them out of whatever. the riffs and harmonies in Fadeless have written "look mommy! my first guitarriff!" all over their face.

(the last little glimpse of something remotely interesting with a bit of effort i noticed by them was probably "ruthless deed" iirc..)

people are already annoyed that everybody has nothing better to do than calling the gazette generic/mediocre/boring, but hell that's just what they've become.

question only is why do we care so much, haven't they proven enough that there's no hope?

when Toxic/Division might've gotten 2-3 Pity-Points for trying this one gets 0/whatever for fuck you that's why

^ Pretty much

People make that paint by the numbers composing process joke a lot, but here I feel it's especially fitting. Even as good ol' gazerawk I don't feel Fadeless is on par with Shiver, Ibitsu, Derangement, Pledge etc. etc. The wubs were good for them. At least it was that something extra that was gravely needed ever since their songs became more formulaic after DIM.

And I still find those SONY conspiracy theories funny/bs considering their sales went to hell after DIM, which is when they went to SONY. If they are innit for the moneez shouldn't they force poor Ruki&cru to make more DIM's instead of these poorly selling bleepetybloops? If I recall correctly DIM opened with nearly twice the sales of DIVISION. They aren't idiots. Unless what people are implying is that the reptilian  zionists of hollywood are behind this somehow...

Spoiler: The reason they suck now is the shit taste of the band itself.

they might have a better deal royalties wise or sony offered some extra perks with the contract (their marketing and promotion materials for both toxic and division are a+);

sony might have better relations with gig organizers, and touring is where their money currently is.

even if they album sales dropped, they're still more profitable as a band, thus they aren't trying as hard

and idk, derangement was perfect, it's everything else that came with it was shit.

they should have stayed with blip-blop-wubs and cut album fillers off, that would make them relevant again.

♦ Overall ♦

>_>

Definitely not my favorite single, not even in the top 5. I have to say that this single is quite messy and although Ruki said that he was drawing ref from Stacked Rubbish I just feel like this was a Disc 1 leftover. Especially Quiet.

:2.5:

♦ Track by Track ♦

Fadeless

I like it, it's nice to listen to but I can't really say much else about it. I love how Ruki's voice sounds and the rolling of the r's are cute xD but there's really no originality in this one. I had a little expectation when I heard the preview but the full song is just nothing spectacular. I do like the bass & drums closing at the end though, my fave part of the song.

As for the PV, it was really just them sitting around looking sexy and I do not have a problem with that lmao. They all look great and I think the whole concept of the PV (which is just some pretty /or 'high-fashion'/ stuff thrown around) is just Ruki being his artistic designer fashionista self ._.

:3.0:

Quiet

The song is pretty. I like the intro, it's gentle. And of course, Ruki's voice sounds great. Reminds me of 籠の蛹 and 影踏み off DIVISION's Disc 1. That little guitar solo between 2:34 and 2:55 is cute. I like the way the song fades out for some reason.

:3.0:

Forbidden Beaver

The whole song is tacky and messy. Every single bit of it, including the title. I don't really like the song very much, it just makes me laugh a lot. Every time he sings "She has a sex addiction" I pretty much pause the song and roll on the floor for a couple minutes. I think Ruki just wanted to make another sex song and threw some stuff he thought was kinky together. The song doesn't really have much coordination. I like the drumming though and the rifs in some parts of the song were cool like between 1:57 and 2:19.

Ah, I'm waiting on the album~

I wasn't expecting much to come out of it since this is basically being released the same way RTU was released and even that single, the b-sides that weren't that good and the title track took me a few months to warm up to. FADELESS is good though, it is the better of the singles that they have put out post-Tokyo Dome.

I love the fact that The GazettE seem to have gone back to their analog stage and away from the digital (by that I mean, away from the electronics and back to the core instruments). FADELESS is a good song, but the female vocals, for once, are off-putting. The song is still pretty good regardless. The riffs are very nice, although I feel they need to start tuning up (They made QUIET on drop B guitar tuning? seriously, on a ballad?). At last Uruha and Aoi are their own entities again, Reita is a bit more noticeable, and Kai's drumming is still pretty good. The guitar solo really threw me off because how it came in out of nowhere but it was an interesting thing and I love it, and at least Ruki was able to play around with the melody of the pre-chorus to make things interesting.

QUIET... PLEDGE without the interesting bits? Far too long? For a ballad, I think that's the perfect length. The intro wasn't as spectacular as any of the ballads they have put out recently like VOICELESS FEAR, Kago no Sanagi, or Kagefumi, but this song was a lot better than 2/3 of those. I judged this song based on the title mostly because the last time Ruki had vocal problems, VOICELESS FEAR was born. Now we have QUIET. The lyrics paint a story of what seems like someone going through a death, a loss, but I feel like behind it is the root of the problems he had early this year. The guitar solo is very early as compared to other songs and maybe the tempo isn't as fast which makes it "boring" but, honestly, it's a ballad, what'd you expect? Tempo of 140bpm, sprinting guitars?

FORBIDDEN BEAVER, I don't even want this song. BEAVER is to The GazettE as Akercock and [worms] is to MEJIBRAY, it's a live song that I don't want to hear on my iPod nor live. It kind of sounds a bit like VERMIN + MY DEVIL ON THE BED, except VERMIN actually had some appeal to it.

For promoting the album, this isn't doing what I want, nevertheless, I still follow them and I will be replaying FADELESS and QUIET. And also, the ALBUM is what's going to have the STACKED RUBBISH similarity and not this single, so I am looking forward to hearing that. If it does end up having a STACKED feel to it, I hope they make another album with a lot of DIM nostalgia (although, hopefully, they release a few singles before that).

FORBIDDEN BEAVER is bad but it's not that bad. It's tasteless, disjointed, and messy. Akercock and [worms] should never have been conceived, much less recorded and put to disc.

It's not that it's bad, it's more varied than the past sex/live songs that they have made, but I am getting tired of songs like that and i don't want it about as much as I wanted to hear Akercock with the donald duck screams and [worms]. They definitely should never have been created.

Nah just...nah I'm gonna have to respectfully disagree with that. This song suffered what Fadeless suffered from, no real progression. Just the same thing repeating over and over again and the only cool thing about both songs (Which they seem to do ALOT of nowadays) is the octave chords up and down and then back to the root key which the song is based off of. Naraku, which was their last sex song was way more varied than this. And even Sugar Pain, which was even more well executed with that. I'm willing to bet it didn't take much to write both songs.

FADELESS - pretty okay song, but nothing special.  :2.0:

Quiet - I though this was one of the best track of the single, since they're doing ballad pretty good, this was better.  :3.0:

Forbidden Beaver - Actually, the song title is kick ass but the song combined to the title.. well I don't know, it doesn't really suit it, I would expect more heavier soundings.  :1.5:

From all songs together: this single was actually one of the worst single I've heard by them, gomen  :lolita_sad:
