"Inspiration" - where does music find it?

Recommended Posts

We had something like this before so I'm bringing it back.

Here's the name of the game: you find a song that borrows elements from another song by a different artist. One of the artists has to be visual kei. The element could be a riff, a vocal line, the entire song, etc.

Here's a good example:

SILENT DIFFERENCE - CRIMSON DUST

sounds a hell of a lot like:

lynch. - All this I'll give you

lynch. came first BTW.

Also:

SILENT DIFFERENCE - BELIAL

near the end sounds like

Dir en grey - Pink Killer

You can't tell me you don't hear that.

Old Gazette-New Gazette

HAHAHAHA, but really

Alice nine's Kiseki (from the mirrorball single) has almost the exact same opening riff as Blink 182's dysentry Gary

Edit: Listening to both of these, despite copying the riff Alice nine have done a lot better with it

(Sorry for the new post, can't embed more than 2 videos for some reason)

lynch's Ambivalent Ideal PV was highly "inspired" by an Argentine band's music video:

Well, this one is so obvious I don't have to say anything else. Not sure if it was meant to be a D'espairsRay cover or just a pure ripoff:

One more from SILENT DIFFERENCE

Original: Dir en grey - Unknown... Despair... a Lost

This is not VK but still J-Rock related.

ELLEGARDEN - Alternative Plans

Original: Green Day - Basket Case

^ Don't know why the last 2 embed videos above turned out to be just normal text.

It's because you can only embed 2 vids per post.

Also

Guniw Tools - Looser Sugar is Yo La Tengo's Sugarcube.

Litchi Hikari Club's "Dark Knight"'s guitar solo sounds a hell of a lot one I've heard in a Dream Theater song before (still trying to find the song).

lynch.'s 'Quarter Life' has a few melodic lines that are in a different key from Emmuree's an「acute」.

[_Vani;lla]'s "ゥソつき,"  V-LAST.'s "彩恋-sairen-," and And's "恋スル@BOY" all have more or less the same riff thing going on with slight variants, presumably stolen from somewhere in an irrelevant GazettE single from who knows when.

Megaromania's 'Bloodshed' is Rhapsody of Fire's "Dawn of Victory." E'm~Grief~'s 'Amentia' is Dimmu Bugir + some gross Cradle of Filth song mixed together (Yuuze had a severe lapse of judgement in 2009, please forgive him).

Missa's '奇櫻の宴,' The Piass' 'G-Gas~,' and another song by The Kiryu (I can't remember which, for the life of me) have this same oriental melody to it. I've been dying to know where it comes from.

Likewise, the Kiryu's 'Another Side' has the theme from Tetris in it (which came from a Russian folk song itself).

This Cat fisT single was most likely inspired by THE INVISIBLE WALL. Although I think both songs are great on their own, there are a lot of similarity between them:

Plastic Tree is pretty good at the plagiarizing game too.

Andro Metamorphose is basically Mew's Comforting sounds, Fujunbutsu is REALLY similar to Smells Like Teen Spirit and Rira no Ki is basically My Iron Lung

Just to clarify on Peace's post earlier, E'm~grief~'s Amentia lifts sections of

Progenies of the Great Apocalypse by Dimmu Borgir
Shat Out Of Hell by Cradle of Filth
Honey and Sulphur by Cradle of Filth
The Promise of Fever by Cradle of Filth

This wins the award of "worst plagiarization ever".

Also obligatory comparison here:

Dir en grey - Unknown...Despair...a Lost

Luna Sea - G

Matenrou Opera's GLORIA sound very alike Rhapsody's Emerald Sword

And their Boukyaku celluloid has some similiar riffs in the intro like Children of Bodom's Are you dead yet.

the GazettE's BEFORE I DECAY quite resembles lynch.' SHADOWZ. Not entirely sure which one came first, but I think SHADOWZ was released before BID. I seem to recall their release dates were very close to eachother, so I doubt there was any inspiration there considering BID was probably a DIM leftover.

Then of course there's Unknown Despair a G (which beautifully ripped off the main riff). I vaguely recall hearing a VK song once that nearly had the exact same drumming pattern as Genesis' Driving The Last Spike, though the roll of the drums were less apparent in that one. I wish I remembered which one it was.
