When I still listened to VK on a daily basis, both bands were among my favorite 'newer' bands... D however wins this because they were more versatile in their songs imo.

D wins =)

Well, this is a very easy one for me as I don't even consider myself a "fan" of D...

So without a doubt, Versailles wins for me.

However, I'll substantiate these claims. I've never been able to get into D for some reason. On the one hand, Asagi's voice (while admittedly technically talented!) has never really resonated with me. I can't get into him for some reason. D's music, from what I've heard of course, also hasn't "clicked" with me yet. They're talented and I respect them, but they're not something I'm excited to listen to at all. I enjoyed listening to 7th Rose when I downloaded the album, but it wasn't something that has been memorable to me. Perhaps the new mini-album will make me a D-believer, because some of the samples were pretty sweet.

So yeah, Versailles wins. There are so many songs by Versailles that I love, from the riffs, to the atmosphere, to Kamijo's vocals. I thought his vocals up to about Jubilee got consistently better (starting with weird on the first single, to too forced/deep on Lyrical Sympathy, up to pure bliss on "Prince" and the Jubilee album). And guitar-wise, Versailles is good shit. Call them repetitive if you like, but I'd rather listen to just about anything Hizaki and Teru play than boring, messy chuggy riffs of some random indie band. Though I agree, the band has generally fallen into a rut lately with the latest 2 albums, I certainly don't hate them, nor do I immediately turn my back on them like some people. I still love Jubilee and most everything before that. They're not as consistent as before, but they still have tracks here and there that I love, even on the new albums. Even if their music got a bit predictable lately, I still find myself listening to those tracks every once in a while.

Versailles!

I'm actually not a fan of either, but I used to like a few D songs, and from the little I've heard of versailles, it seems that D is a bit more versatile.

Although I like Kamijo's voice a lot better than Asagi's....I decided to go with D.

Definitely D. I can't stand Versailles for some reason, I liked their first album and then everything after was just utter shit IMO. plus I feel like i'm not really into their style/theme/concept it just doesn't resonate with me like D's does. not to mention Asagi's voice > Kamijo's. nough said.

Eventhough Asagi's voice has been getting on my nerves lately (he's all over the place), I'd totally have to go with D. They are capable in doing more styles effectively than Versailles, plus their songs are catchier for me.

Versailles does win for me, because I really do love Kamijo's voice more.

I only like 1 song for D and that is sleepers.

But Versailles is nothing without Jasmine You.

But they still win in my ears from D.

D are much better with arrangements and Asagi sings better than Kamijo as far as I can tell. But most of their songs sound the same to me most of the time. Without the arrangements all their songs have nothing special to them except how good their performance is. Versailles keeps doing this concept over and over again, and they have been doing it worse since Jubilee instead of improve, but I find more value and inspiration on their music and their skills. Although Versailles' decadence is a lot more evident than D's I had to vote them, they had a better run imo.

i personally love both bands. i mean asagi and kamijo both totally pwn. but i find that asagi sings better than kamijo imo. and i find that d is very into trying new styles. i love versailles but after jubilee i find that they're getting a little predictable. it probably has to do with d being around longer than versailles. d gives you alot more music to sample and variety.

Versailles because they've completely changed my outlook on music and I like pretentious neoclassical stuff.

I don't see how variety would make D better. Yes, their songs are pretty diverse, but all of their diveristy has been done elsewhere (90's melodic-ish song, faux jazz song, soppy ballad, symphonic metal song, generic vkei hard rock song, etc). To be honest, their variety is what made me dislike their recent stuff because they've fallen into a formula of what kind of variety each release holds. Since the Eastern European experiments in the 7th Rose, D has really fallen off for me. They -almost- had me going again at '竜眼の雫,' but the gang vocals weren't in German. Still mad at that.

Yeah, Versailles developed an A-side style and they really haven't changed a ton since their first release, but that's kind of like the point of them. Iron Maiden has done it for 30 years and people still buy their music :3 I'd also rather have their expected style to be super fluttery and over dramatic than trying to be super heavy because we are metaru bando.

But here's my real reason:

Kamijo looked like Full Frontal in his Holy Grail costume. Also, apparently you have to specify google searching 'full frontal' to be from Gundam so you don't get gay porn? Not that I'm complaining, really.

It's very hard to say for me, as you have confrunted my two favourite bands. I've been a fan of Versailles fro more than 4 years now, but ever since I discovered D, around 3 years ago, my heart keeps leaving Versailles for D. There's nothing to say about the voice, ASAGI is definitely more skilled than Kamijo, and his voice is way more sweeter. I always fought "Versailles'd be the perfect band with ASAGI as vocalist." (IMO, don't attack me because of that). Even though Versailles stay the first for me, as they have given me lots, lots, lots of emotions in the past 4 years, and even though they stay my favourite band, I have to admit that I picked D. HIZAKI and Teru are ten times more skilled than Ruiza and Hide-Zou, though Tsunehito can be Masashi's god (IMO, again...) but ever since Versailles went major, and lost JY, their music changed. In a bad way. They are more "marvelous" now, with epic choruses, incredible solos, huge scene and stuff, but it's not how they began and how I fell in love with them anymore. I still love their "new" songs, but I feel so nostalgic when listening to old ones. I do really miss their indies time. That's something D have never done. They started indies, went to major, and then went back to indies, but their music stayed the same, as beautiful, as magic, as pure. That's why, even though I still love Versailles more than D, I had to recognize that D rules more now.

You're really making a hard choice for me...

Both band are really my most favorites bands...

but, in the end, I choose Versailles...

D is really versatile in making music, they range of music is really wide, but actually I not kind into some of their stuff...

And Versailles... emmm.. etto... how I describe it... Their music are more acceptable to my ear...

Unreasonable isn't it?

Still, my vote is for versailles...

D! they are actually the best visual kei band ever!, they keep their style being such a good musicians! ASAGI is from another planet, his voice is everything! Definitely my favorite band <3

By the way, Versailles was dying last period, they started to sound the same all the time and kamijo's voice is getting forced! i love them but their pause is definitely the best option for them! I prefer Kamijo in Lareine and HIZAKI with his own project...

Is it weird that this is like choosing which of my arms I would enjoy ripping off?

I chose Versailles, though, obviously.

I can't explain it, but it seems to be an innate attraction to this band on several distinct levels.

Hizaki has been my favorite guitarist for... Ever. His skill is unmatched, even by Ruiza and Hide-Zou whom I adore. He, in my honest opinion, had the best compositions of the band because they were big, emotional, and just excellent.

In terms of bassists... I don't like Tsunehito. This sounds ridiculous because I never met him and have no basis on which to form an opinion on his personality, but I just... don't like him. Jasmine on the other hand I loved and I also enjoyed Masashi. I thought they were both funny and warm-hearted people. Not to mention, they're good bassists.

As far as Teru verses Hide-Zou, I find them to be about the same in levels of talent and skill. Teru probably a bit more than Hide-Zou. Teru's compositions largely bored me after a while, but he's still slightly more remarkable than Hide-Zou.

Then there's the singers... God, I just love them both, but Kamijo won in the end.

The facts are that my favorite things in life are exactly what Versailles's and D's music encompass, but what it comes down to is that Versailles consistently impressed me while there are gaping holes in D's discography where I am just unimpressed...

I think that's an adequate enough explanation.

The name of the Rose is still one of my favorite Jrock albums ever, so it is hard for me not to vote.

Looking at both bands entire careers, it is easy for me to vote for D. While D has some bad/boring releases (like the dog turd that is Snow White), they have had some awesome stuff as well. Versialles on the other hand has had some good stuff, a lot of boring stuff, and a handful of great stuff. Nothing of their comes up to the level that I associate with D's best work.

That said, what D is right now is not the old D. Asagi has become an attention whore with his vocals and a lot of their song wrighting has gotten very stale. I think Versailles has been more more consitent in this area. If I were to compare the two bands as what they are today, I still think D has a slight edge, but not nothing like if we compaired their entire careers.

i haven't voted. the difference is so big that it doesn't matter lol.

plus i don't listen much to any of them

although i find kamijo way more attractive than asagi!! but i'll try to be objective lol.

i have listened more songs from D. i prefer their songs. i think asagi has a better voice, well when he is not doing funny high pitched voice or something that annoys me and can't seriously listen to it but i am laughing.

also D's clothes amusing me more.

* edit:i can't decide what to vote just because of kamijo. it's like an illogical bias.

I obviously have a bias for Versailles just because I've known them longer and I have an attachment for their members. I have tried to get into D before and to be perfectly honest, they are quite decent compared to some other VK bands. None of their songs ever quite "clicked" with me like Versailles' songs did, unfortunately. I also think they are a lot tackier/unattractive than Versailles as far as visuals go.

Love both bands but if i had to choose one it would be D.

Reason being they have alot more diversity to their tracks,

where as 90% of Versailles tracks all sound the same, which gets boring way to quickly.

wow even with Versailles sudden drop in quality i thought it would at least be a even poll i don't understand those that say D are versatile sure they mix different genre's sometimes but for the most part all their songs just sound the same to me.

When has his voice ever changed? in his whole entire career? never. lmao

While I find both bands really good, I'm going to have to go with Versailles on this.  Personally, I feel like Versailles never put out an album that let me down and they are very musically consistent.  When you listen to Versailles you know what your'e getting.  D on the other hand, while generally consistent, has had a few off putting albums that I just couldn't get into.  I'm not saying D is bad or anything though, I'm a huge fan Asagi.  Also, I personally tend to listen to music more for the instruments (and those sick solos), and I think Versailles just has that aspect on lockdown.
