Trouble scrobbling non-English on Last.fm?

Recommended Posts

Anything I scrobble that's not English (Japanese, Russian, Unicode) isn't scrobbling very well over to Last.fm.

Has anyone else experienced weird things going on with the desktop scrobbler? Is it just the application or the website itself? I am using Windows.

This is what it looks like.

This is suppose to be 黒夜葬 - 焔葬 from the album Catharsis.

Last.fm will still scrobble the correct band most of the time or it'll randomly assign a band to it. I was listening to Svarga (Сварга) and it was changing it to Girugamesh or just something totally unrelated. It seems to also retroactively change bands and songs that scrobbled correctly to a totally different artist. It has been going back and changing a band I was listening to last night to something completely different. This started yesterday and seems to just have been really buggy over the whole weekend. I normally listen to music and scrobble over my phone so I don't know if this is only for the desktop player or if this has been happening for awhile and I only now noticed it.

Are others experiencing this or is there something going on with my computer only? I'm going to uninstall the player and re-install it to see if it'll fix whatever this problem is.

^ This seems to be a global problem recently. Here is a kinda working solution from the last.fm message boards:

1. Open Last.fm Scrobbler

2. Move to Tools > Options > Connection > Bandwidth Usage

3. Click "Clear cache"

4. Uncheck "Download artist images and info"

It seems that scrobbling works well.

This way it won't download weird/false artist and song info (or any info for that matter) but will scrobble correctly.

Whoa!!! Working now! Hopefully that fixed it! Thanks! Back to scrobbling my bad music! :D

I was about to search their help forums (just reinstalled the player) but I wasn't sure if I was in the minority since I listen to foreign music.

this is just a temporary solution though, since the artist information doesn't show up on the client, and i can't love-track any titles with kanji/hangul in the title from the scrobbler; it ends up love-tracking the "?????" title. (゜ロ゜;)

I have no trouble on loving tracks. Oddly enough, once I applied that temporary solution, some tracks with symbols like : ended up scrobbled as weird squares. Dafuq.

Here's the main topic on it.

http://www.last.fm/forum/34905/_/2029827/1

Since it's the weekend I assume most of the staff are off, so hopefully Monday they'll look into and there will be a solution soon.

Sucks I can't love tracks, especially since this weekend I have been trying out new tunes and I normally use the love track feature as a way to go back and build playlists. Ah well, I can still love if I go to my profile but it's just a tad bit inconvenient is all.

Also this guy wrote this silly sounding solution, so I closed the player and haven't reopened it since and most of my music seems to be scrobbling fine.

Just reposting this as it works for now. It looks like some kind of GUI error to me but I'm not specialist here...

Anyways set the program to start in tray, close scrobbler and the rerun it. Otherwise listen to music in a regular way.

Just don't bring program window to display.

I'm also foobar user and tried things like changing keyboard settings, firewall and so on...

¯\_(ツ)_/¯ dumb but works

Yup, got that same problem as well, I use Mac OS X and it doesn't make a difference. I hope there's a solution for Mac as well.

My account scrobbled all of this after I went to sleep last night.

I changed my password just in case but yeah, what the heck!? Nothing was lost, I see exactly the music I was playing before I went to bed. I wonder if all this NSBM I've been playing has been popping up in someone else's charts?

I've been having troubles now as well. Somehow the tracks I play will be scrobbled on the device but when I check my last.fm profile online it won't show anything :/ Still worked fine yesterday.

Wow that one on imgur you linked here is weird!

I wonder i that's just someone else's scrobbles

that went scrobbled to another account because of script failures or such. :o

I was thinking that. It hasn't happened since yesterday but this actually happened last weekend. I remember refreshing my Recently Played chart and watching artists just vanish and being replaced with The Used or Incubus and I thought that since Last.fm wasn't recognizing these artists in the scrobbler because they're names are in Japanese or Russian it was changing them to those artists. Now I think it is a whole new problem altogether.

i re-checked "download artist images and info" to see if the problem was fixed yet, and everything seems to be running smoothly. i can love-track using the scrobbler now too.
