  1. The more I dig into classic vk and pre-vk bands, the more I understand that vk is actually a scene with 3 decent artists out of 17 copy-cats. The sound, lyrics, visuals and overall aesthetics haven't really evolved in the almost 30 years it has existing. The idolized system that is actually the managment strategy of the 95% of the bands born in the last 10 years moreless came out really not surprising.

Tbh, this makes me really, really upset, and seeing bands like Mamireta, Mathilda or Londboy being claimed as the cool novelty makes me want to die instead.

the exact same can be said about literally just about every music genre ever btw x

the amount of 'follow the leader' behavior in genres like post-punk, shoegaze, hardcore, etc. is no different

I'm with you. I would argue though that a certain immobility or apathy when it comes to innovation is symptomatic of every niche genre. The extent of that immobility grows in proportion to number of parameters required to constitute that niche.

But "mainstream" vk has always been strongly influenced by trends in popular music anyway and that's not exactly the frontier of creativity either. That's why I think that looking at the fringes of certain genres is generally most interesting... well, it depends on what you're looking for, I guess.
