Well done, ORZ! I am so damn behind on J-music, but from the list, I definitely co-sign on GRIMOIRE's release. Definitely in my top three active VK groups.
  2. fitear1590

Whoa, unexpected! Excited to see how the songs turn out. Pretty cool that he's working with a bunch of different artists.

[@Shir0 vielleicht kannst du mir helfen, wegen deiner Influencer-Forschung? :D]
  4. Random af, but when did "influencer" become an established term?

@colorfuljinsei @platy Thanks, about 2 years ago is what I was thinking.
@AimiGen7 lol, sadly this is the world we live in. I use German as litmus test and since "Influencer" (yes, straight from trendy English) has entered German, then I think it must be somewhat established.

it iis for quite some time now  actually. My seminar paper was about Influencer ( did it in German and yes I used the English word cuz like u thought it somewhat became an established term) and during my research I found articles that were over 2 years old already but imo its still relatively new most of the

"useful" articles I used were not even a year old

@Shir0 thanks for the input! That’s cool that you researched it.

  5. Check out our Summer 2018 Recommended Tracks! If your favorite artist/song didn't make the list, we need to hear from you in the comments :D

Nice list, team! I'm sorry I couldn't contribute officially this time, but these would have been my picks: "Brightly, Brightly" by DIMMDIVISION. - shoegazey goodness from my fave inactive boiz (check it out on YouTube) "獣ゆく細道 (kemono yuku hosomichi)" by Shiina Ringo and Miyamoto Hiroji - the queen is back with a return to her lush jazz sound that would be at home in a spy movie soundtrack or a Jacques Demy musical; would have been perfect on her Heisei Fuuzoku album from 2007 (check it out on Spotify) "DISCO (rerecording)" by 女王蜂 (Ziyoou Vachi a.k.a. QUEEN BEE) - a rerecording of their chaotic classic; a bit too clean, but for those who aren't loving their current direction, this is at least an attempt to bridge their two sounds (check it out on Spotify)
  7. Halp, what is the secret to the audio embed ("insert HTML5 audio") feature?

  8. It's so cute and humbling that the three former roadies who are now stars in their own right in the scene came back for this show! And the songs were really well chosen for them, as others have said. Eww, I feel so old now!!!
  9. fitear1590

Lol, right? Has Scarlet Valse ever put out a release where they DON'T rerecord at least one old song?
  10. fitear1590

Thanks for archiving and translating this, cvltic.

  12. Indie rock band PELICAN FANCLUB is making their major debut with Ki/oon Records (home of ASIAN KUNG-FU GENERATION, L'Arc~en~Ciel, NEGOTO, LILI LIMIT, Chatmonchy, KANA-BOON, etc.). On November 7th, they'll release new mini album Boys just want to be culture. They will also embark on a new tour. More details to come.
  13. Did the VK band DaizyStripper really name themselves after a 70s potato peeler or am I missing something?

  14. Just saw Crazy Rich Asians and I loved the opening song. Gave me Shiina Ringo vibes.

  15. Any Kali Uchis fans here on MH? Please enjoy this ethereal goddess.

@emmny a tidal wave of tea, featuring ur boiz

Keep 'em coming, everyone! Karma Shenjing is the most surprising to me so far. Never heard of them! Are there examples of Japanese bands mimicking other Asian cultures (I can think of a handful of vaguely "Indian" ones, but that's about it; I wonder if Korean ones exist...) or were you mainly thinking outside of the music world? And yeah, I would be interested in reading critical perspectives on this kind of thing. Dammit, now I'm sad I wasn't able to deliver on that front. Lol, luv u.
  19. I don't have some grand thesis about this phenomenon, but UNiTE.'s new music video reminded me of it. Know any other Japanese bands that use "Chinese" inspiration in a song or video (costumes, setting, or even influences in the music)? Post here and feel free to discuss! ユナイト / UNiTE. D Czecho No Republic (If the embed doesn't work, play it on YouTube) 女王蜂 / Ziyoou-Vachi / QUEEN BEE (Non-YouTube PV link for "スリラ/Thriller": http://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm26772980)
  20. Any MHers seen Hereditary yet? I was really surprised to hear about the major split between popular and critic opinion. I personally loved it! One of my favorites this year.

@platy I would agree with that "unsettling" is a really fitting word!
      @saishuu Toni Collette was brilliant!

The film was a damn ride from start to finish; the only thing I'm going to say about the plot is that you'll be pissed on several characters' behalf.

      Toni Collete's performance was EVERYTHING.

  21. fitear1590

Yep, absolutely not feeling "Romantic Trampoline" at all. 😕
  22. I know I'm years late, but I noticed Sailor Moon Crystal was on Hulu, so I started watching it recently. I kind of love it?! I only casually watched the 90s series. It's of course a classic, but I could never bring myself to watch every single episode, because of the tedious "monster of the week" structure and the absolute milking of transformation/attack animation sequences. This remake, which I hear follows the manga much more closely, has much better pacing, a more serious tone, and a lot more variety when it comes to attacks. Some cheap CGI and nothing beats the original music, but overall, a really worthy remake, imo!

i was not aware that it followed closely to the manga. however the animation is too awful for me to pick it up.....

@MamoHulu has the first two seasons of the 90s series dubbed (the new Viz dub, which is quite good); I assume they will keep adding the dubbed seasons, as they become available?

(And all 3 seasons of Crystal are in both dubbed/subs)

  23. fitear1590

Pretty great setlist spanning their whole career, not just the last album!
  24. I was never even a huge ViViD/SHIN fan, but this song is giving me major KIDDIE vibes. Some good ol' pop rock.

Yusa is now LSN (Legendary Six Nine) vocalist, he was 4/5 of their releases, check their music if you haven't and let me know what you think about, "haze" and "memento" are my favorite.

  25. Any MHers also MoviePass users? I've only had it for about a month, but I am loving it!
