  1. The fact that so many people still say things like "buy cds to support your favorite bands" is, quite frankly, childish and ridiculous . Fact is, being able to listen to music is a RIGHT, not some sort of privilege to be obtained by wasting money. All these ''musicians'' trying to make it big are greedy, talentless hacks who dont even DESERVE money. REAL artists play and don't care if we pay.

yeah pretty sad,  but not the end of the world their are plenty of alternative trackers for anime and their will be a official replacement for nyaa sooner or later. Not to mention going directly to the fabsubber's site to get your fix.

There's also a weird resurgence of fans that think downloading is morally objectionable and as such only like the 10 or so bands that got any sort of Western circulation, never diving any deeper than that.

I was under the impression this was just laziness / whiteknighting, but it could very well be there just aren't many resources for them to do so anymore. 12 years ago there TONS of blogs dedicated to sharing music for vkei and it was ofter regarded as "one of the easiest kinds of music to find" by people who didn't have the money to buy everything from iTunes. Now, it seems to be the opposite post direct download crack downs, although more groups are starting to embrace digital distribution.

I wonder how much losing lastfm played into this as well. There's next to no emphasis on trying out random small bands to appear worldly or because saw you someone else listening to it and liked their picture. It's just not cool anymore, I guess?

That's why I tend to upload random stuff I get from rarezcrates or stumble upon in my hard drive. No one asked, but more often than not it's just not online anymore since all of those upload blogs just reposted the same links rather than upping it themselves.

    3. Tokage

      Tokage

I've been under the impression that this whole new-gen laziness to explore beyond like the two or three bands people decide to hyper-fixate on + the whiteknighting thing might stem from the fact that a lot of the newer fans just have no idea of how easy things used to be back during The Golden Days(tm)  and thus don't really know what they're missing out on either.

I think that losing out on something like last.fm may have played a part in the loss of the whole 'i just decided to try out this random band bc their bassist's dressed like an egg' thing for sure, though i feel like it's also kind of becoming a streaming generation thing in general to simply not bother digging deeper beyond whatever the Spotify/Youtube algorithm feeds you, isn't it? I guess RYM kind of allows for the whole 'peeping what your friends are listening to' experience as well but I feel like it's somehow still not quite the same

I personally believe it would already help out a lot if some new batch of dedicated 'curators' would spring up again. People who are deeply into particular niches of the scene w/ the knowledge, access to interesting stuff and  willingness to share for preservation's sake.. A lot of the titans from back in the day seem to have kinda 'retired' and i'm pretty sure that's had an impact as well

@crossparallelIt's really quite disconcerting, that sudden realization of life going on, having the potential to end just like that due to some dumb accidents etc... I mean, there is no way yu can help these things when they do happen most of the time, but still, it makes everything feel vulnerable

I quite liked it to be honest... the longer tracks are the best elements of the album and just for clarify, funny or not, I won't join the train "GazettE will recycle it in who knows what year" because I listen to both of them and they are different musically, even if belonging to the same genre... it's a question of shades imo.

I only liked 3 or 4 tracks so far, and a couple more will probably grow on me. shame that destrudo is a SE only. I like that it sounds like 15 recent years of visual kei throughout a single record. (keeping a faint hope that Deg will step up their western trash game for the new album.)

I already mentioned Orphaned Land and Melechesh, both whom fits the oriental folk metal bill. Myrath, Chthonic, Acyl, Dislocation, Arsh Anubis, Narjahanam and Master of Persia are others that fits that bill as well. Not all of these are folk metal though, some of them just have ome influences thrown in.

Every Major band has a fanclub, who release a lot of fc (limited) stuff. also if you wanna be in a fanclub you have to pay lots of money each year and the stuff you can buy as FC member are also not that cheap.

Well, some people just love to follow their bands. if LOUDNESS does tour in Europe or America always a bunch of fans also will visit a bunch of lives.

But that's more a matter of "having time"  a mid class money person can do it.

But of course if you are very very rich you always have time for such tour. haha.

Let's also take into account the kind of band though, because Japanese Rich Kids aren't likely to listen to rock music in general, unless it's really poppy, or was popular in the 80's and 90's and has a member who has connections to mainstream pop music *cough* X *cough*. While a band's merch may be expensive, their fanbase could mostly just be people who buy them at a discount. So I'd say it'd have to be a band that is pretty normie compared to other Vkei bands and really popular (remember that rich kids in Asia are normie as fuck), while also having expensive merch.

I'd say X Japan, because they're basically famous, and have their share of expensive merch.

  20. Anyone here ever got a headache / hurt their ears listening to VK? Not talking 'lol bad music hurrrr' here, I'm talking like 'music causing actual physical discomfort'. For me one band that seems to cause it is 12012 with their earliest material. Something about the production on their older releases just makes me feel uncomfortable, maybe it's that weird tin can-like filter over the vocals.

      If it's about loud masterings, all B. P. records catalogue from 2015 onwards. Kiryu's "Irodori" makes me regret liking them (not actually, maybe?). But I was about to make a joke about bad music ;-;

    3. Himeaimichu

      Himeaimichu

Ironically for me, a lot of early Kiryu stuff rather than later Kiryu stuff. Mostly because their early stuff (especially on Shuugetsu Heika) were engineered with too much treble, and ripped in low quality.
