generic. Cohesive but generic. Beautiful Defomity still had CODA, UNDO and LAST HEAVEN. DOGMA is pretty much nonsense, making a big package out of it with all the promo videos about hairstylists, graphic designers and wtf not. DIM was the last record which would have deserved this kind of marketing monster, but then again, it didn't need it since it was good. This record needs all promotion tricks that are possible since its bland, uninnovative, pre-pre-pre-pre-pre-avantgarde. I complain! The riffs are dull, the usage of female voices is like THE ONE idea they had back then 2006. This is almost 10 years ago. And don't call using those dubstep intros as new ideas. I'm so bored by this band which is super sad. Listening to Cassis and Last bouquet later when I'm finished hating them for now.

I found 11 way more better than 12. The final three songs of 11 made the whole record simply perfect. And then you have brilliant song like shabaranda, Aiai, the perfect opener Haite Sutero, Cook A Doodle, EROTICA... plus, the production of 11 is really brilliant. 12 is too noisy for me, and the quality of the compositions itself are not as good. Not a bad album though. My fav is defenitely Tonigh Tonighyayaya.

the title track is their first song which comes anything close to the brilliance of their Slivers.exe EP. It's so underwhelming while at the same time being very intense. I love his voice in the chorus, especially his terribly screwed up singing at 3:56. They could have take another dub, or autocorrecting it, but they left it as it is and this is brilliant.
  4. morbiusss

I liked blur, entering nirvana and siva, fade and track 4 a little. rest is so poor. But when I go back and listen to [anima] everything on here is poor. this time they didn't even manage to pull out a decent ballad. I'm getting sick. have to stop listening to this. Nightmare, please stop. Come back when you feel like making m u s i c again
  5. morbiusss

the good songs are getting better and better with each listen. In detail this is Tosei, Behind a vacant image, Tefutefu, Chain repulsion, Kaishun, Phenomenon.

I wanted to say that I find IMMORTALIS is better as a whole than any Dir en grey Album as a whole. IMMOARTALIS is progressive, it is catchy, it owns some superior songwriting, it has an amazing atmosphere, it is diversified, kyo's vocals and all the instruments stay really out, it is accessible (!), and when degs hard tracks turn into moshfests quite too often, sukekiyo's hard songs still have something outstanding and crazy going on (斑人間, vandal). Of course it doesnt surpass EVERYTHING deg ever did. One can create some really superior (imaginary album) tracklists with Degs material. anyway, ARCHE is a good album. I'm glad Deg turns to more accessible tunes with this record. Kyo is such a talented singer that he simply has to sing more. Maybe thats why I prefer sukekiyo.

Love TefuTefu...also love some other songs, especially track 14. But I still think sukekiyo beats everything dir en grey ever accomplished. IMMORTALIS is such a sick album.
  9. morbiusss

they went downhill since they signed with PSC. thats the truth. I remember their first album Abnormal Head Machine, I remember their felony single...I remember they were brilliant, dark and serious. all gone.

Took out the bla songs, rearranged and recieved this: o1 Phoenix o2 Devil o3 Oblivion o4 Envy o5 Bullet o6 Greed o7 Mad o8 Ring o9 Tomorrow 1. Flows perfectly (especially Phoenix --> Devil! check this out, it's brilliant!) 2. Phoenix as starter and Tomorrow as an ending gives this album a very positive image, allthough being quite hard and melancholic soundwise. 3. With 9 tracks clocking in at 34 minutes the album now has a nice length. 4. Phoenix, Oblivion and Envy at the beginning makes a really strong first section, leaving me wanting to listen to the whole thing. 5. I absolutely love Ring. The bass is super brilliant in this song. Really perfect. 10/5. 6. Without editing and rearranging this album is a mess, showing that lynch didn't put much thinking into tracklisting and overall flow. 7. That's quite a pity. 8. I like the album this way very much. 8/10 in this personalized form.

you may be right. but singles are like junk food. An album is, just like a novel for an writer, what a musician should aim for. I just want them to take more time for each album, but it hink that will never happen cause music industry in japan is indeed "industry". if i remember correctly, from libido to anima only 1 year and three months past and anima is one of the best vk records ever released. so they are indeed capable of doing awesome stuff in no time. And because of that one album i will never lose faith in nightmare. I think they have an artistic vision and someday the need for releasing their "opus magnum" will come. of course, it also could be the case that the members themselves LOVE their new stuff and think this is the best they've ever released. We will see

Hey, I did this: combined SCUMS and TBONTB songs together and created this little thing. It's still far away from being an overwhelming album, but it's definitely enjoyable. 01 Deus ex machina 02 TO BE OR NOT TO BE 03 Killed In Summer 04 mimic 05 Ame to Yoru ni Ochite 06 Lullabye 07 Isolation 08 TRUTH 09 TERMINAL 10 Melt into blue sky. 11 KENKA DRIVE I especially love Deus ex machina as a strong opening track, Lullaby after Ame and Melt into the blue sky as kind of "Last track". Gives me 48 good minutes

first of all, you have to give me kudos for the original typography of the album, please but, in all honesty, i dont even know why I made the effort. is it only me finding nightmare's records getting weaker and weaker every year? this one's got even less to offer than the mostly terrible SCUMS. every song sounds so forced, rushed. Gallows is a weak opener, TO BE OR NOT TO BE doesn't even have a chorus (but the song is actually "okay"), so it's to song 3 to get the album really started. But, that's Dizzy. Cool riff with one of the most terrible Nightmare Choruses ever. Weakest Opening trio out of all their records. even after multiple hearings 東京都羅刹区 remains undefinable mess to me. and again, that chorus! They didn't pull out a really awesome chorus since Deus ex machina, and the chorus of that song was actually just a variation of the song's strophe. Rewrite has a similar problem. Starts really promising, I had high hopes for anima-quality, but that chorus...are we in kindergarden? Good variation with the string section at the end. this could have been so good. Thank you Melt into the blue sky. Finally a good song. allthough it's somehow boring, and nowhere near all that great old ballads of theirs, it's the most listenable song of the whole album. I really love the acoustic outro, wasn't expecting that. TRUTH has a great chorus, YOMI's falsett part is brilliant. still, the song doesn't sound very sophisticated. With thirtysomething I think I wouldnt want to make this kind of music. Lullawhatever that title is so ridiculous. boring ballad. the key changes in the middle part are done very poorly. TERMINAL kindergarden. Drastica: Good beat, whatever verses, terrible break downs/bridges, uninspiring choruses. could have been so much more. next song screams NOOOOOIIIIISSSSEEEEE 0/5 L.L.B: I enjoyed YOMI's singing "Love so sweet, Love zo sweet". haha, whatever. TERRIBLE. KENKA DRIVE: awesome, really good. 2:11 - 2:21 is extra brillant. allthough the part which starts at 1.36 and is repeated at the end is a bit too noisy and bothersome. 4.5/5 WHOHOO. 2 good tracks but no classical stuff on this one. what happened? I feel like crying, really. what do you think?

    cool!

Ok, after listening through this album alot (20 times minimum) I have to say it gets worse. I wanted this to grow on me (my first review not being that flattering) since I really like Gazette Besides my respect for Inside Beasts drumroll/beat and the transition from Malformed box, nothing remains. I dont like this mess. Until It Burns Out completely lost it's initial seduction potential with its good melancholic parts. This tune's chorus, along with Loss' chorus, sounds so childish to me now. Ruki's voice doesnt seem mature at all. Devouring One Another is the only song that gets gradually better for me. Still not a favourite, but I like the different approach they took with this one. Definitely interesting. Fadeless remains ok. Cool rocknroll tune but the female vocals kinda destroys this one. Redo and Last Heaven. I am so sad about realizing that those two songs dont have longevity at all. I'm kinda bored by them now since they are really simple in their overall structure. Loss: the only good thing about this song is the use of female vocals and that great short guitar thing introducing the 2nd verse. The Stupid Tiny Insect. I imagine this song's lyrics are about Ruki lying in a hotel room wanting to get some sleep but some stupid tiny insects don't let him since they are all flying around his head going all "guru guru guru guru guru guru guru mawaru" and then when the chorus sets in ruki is full of rage and is going mad in his room killing all those stupid tiny insects with a rolled up newspaper in his hand. Accompanied with this little funny situation in my head, this song wins. Which doesn't change anything on the fact that this song is completely bad and not worth being put on an album (which goes for 70 % of all the songs here). Does anybody know the lyrics of this song? this is of huge interest to me. In Blossom: Still good besides this useless first minute. Karasu: I like the Verses with Ruki's screams and the females kind of responding to that. Still, so bad this song. Kuroku: hahaha, SOOOO BAD. To Dazzling Darkness. Good, but chorus could have been so much better. CODA: as sad as it is, this is the only 5/5 on this album. Final impression: Worst Album by gazette. I liked Division alot more (it had some great tracks with Ibitsu, Kage no Sanagi, Yoin, Kagefumi!) though Division is not good at all too. I mean, you just cannot create an album which is build around one amazing and 3-4 good tracks and the rest falls flat. this simply doesnt work. I'm really disappointed but I know they can do so much better so tonight i'm drinking to gazette's bright future. Cheers!
