"Hey guys so remember the time we sold our album Gauze on vinyl but it was limited to 100 copies?"

    "Yeah, why?"

"Well we're just about to release our new album so let's do the same thing, but get this, let's only limit it to 10 copies"

"Great idea management! I'm sure we would love to give out ten LPs to people who will definitely sell them for a ludicrous price which will end up being scratched and then fuck over everyone else by not releasing all our albums on vinyl for the near future and the albums that are on vinyl now are too expensive"

I would KILLLL to have Dir En Grey's Gauze on vinyl. The ones that do exist are extremely rare as only 100 of them were made. I remember it being on sale for like 50,000 yen just recently and sadly it was sold out last time I checked.

As for other rare items, Dir En Grey had this shirt from 1999 during the Gauze era and I love the design. Would love to have them remake it for the albums 20th anniversary this year.

It's penis music lol. Okay, I'm not here to talk shit about pop music, especially not Kpop. There's more artistic merit to it than some give it, and many perfectly sane Kpop fans get unfairly lumped in with the Stans.

But man, I used to be really neutral and happy towards Kpop back when I first got into VK, y'know, being like "Hey guys, let's all get along and talk music and have fun 🤗" but then some of them got into my DMs and completely disrespected my music taste, insisted that "It's all Asian, it's the same, so you should love BTS too or something's wrong with you weeb" and I even got into a fight with one because she said some super ignorant things about--not VK or the band--but just metal music in general (didn't help that she attacked Insanity Injection whom I really like but she said "this isn't music, it's people screaming into the mic" and so I just reversed the logic with "[Kpop] is not music, it's meaningless noise created for brainless consoomers"). All of this shit wasn't even on Twitter, it was on fucking anime Instagram posts and random or VK Youtube videos. And nothing, not even saying "I don't like western pop" or "I'm not fond of Jpop myself" calms them down. I've been called racist against Asians because I don't like Kpop--never mind the fact that I'm on this forum so that says something about what I think about Asian people--I'M FROM ASIA. I don't even pass for white more than like 25% of the time... Honestly, it just makes me more and more irate as the years go by, because I was so open minded about it and willing to be friendly and actually listen to their damn band recommendations. At this rate I'll be an unironic Anti before I'm legally old enough to pour my own drinks.

That background is needed to understand my current stance. I did genuinely try to get into Kpop; I started with BTS like they all tell you to and I listened to about 5 different releases of theirs.

I was far from impressed. They sounded behind the times. Not in a charming way, but in a way that made me feel... Uncomfortable? I recognized the electronica-infused choruses and hip-hop inspired verses from Western pop music and even some elements from 2010s fads like tropical house production [God I hated that fad] and asked myself "Why is this any better than the white people stuff?" I don't think it is. I think it's on par, personally. I think this stems from an issue Kpop fans have. They can't just call a mediocre album a mediocre album, or even acknowledge a bad song/album because of hype. It's all got to be amazing, flawless, like the second coming of Christ. Honestly, even bands I consider to be absolutely amazing have some songs I don't hype because they're a step in wrong direction or have questionable production choices, but when I say "Yeah, this album is pretty great, but stay away from track X Y Z, they're not the best" the person receiving my recommendation often finds it funny and listens anyway, and then we can have a laugh about how weird it was for a VK band to do Ska or for the vocalist to think that now's the time to try opera vocals for the first time in his life. Sometimes I even completely shit on a band I love because they're an acquired taste or have an endearing charm and originality that lacks any and all technical savoir-faire.

Personally, I don't understand how anyone from any counterculture/alternative music group (wassup punks and Goths) could be really into something mainstream at the same time, I thought we gathered around this stuff because it was alternative and had messages in it that differ from the mainstream.  Sure, you could remark on all the Oshare bands that aren't particularly deep or meaningful to say that VK in general is artistically bankrupt but it also wouldn't be fair if I pretended that this whole scene is just deliciously layered social/political commentary like Diru or idiosyncratic cultural experimentalism like Guruguru Eigakan.  On the mainstream aspect, I mean, the mainstream kind of defines the space that creates a counterculture. It's not what they are. Well I mean, what's not mainstream is the they, and mainstream is the us. I think this sense of othering VK bands and fans experience is central to the culture's structure, as something that exists as a byproduct of failed standard conformation.

I don't know how some VK fans can up and leave for Kpop so quick. Maybe they just liked the Oshare stuff, I guess, but I can't believe they would leave behind all the great post-punk, experimental, speed metal, alt-rock, etc. groups behind when Kpop doesn't offer anything similar. When I listen to pop music, I long for that missing guitar solo, or lack of Jpop chords (if it's Western pop music). Also the PVs are completely different--least from what I see. Every Kpop group I've seen is good at dancing. Hella good. And I've been doing dance for 8 years of my life, I know good technique and stage presence when I see it. When I say that, you might be shocked to know that I still prefer VK PVs where the bandomen just stare at the camera and sulk, or dance around while playing guitar or something. There's been masterful executions of this simple formula, like in cali≠gari's 歪んだ鏡 which legit gave me nightmares of Hage Shuuji staring into my soul.  Might be a false positive because that song dredges some mental trauma other than his face but my point still stands. There's also a lot of PVs that don't have killer dance moves but have a lot of creative spirit to them, like BUCK-TICK's EMPTY GIRL or literally anything Malice Mizer filmed, and that's the stuff I like the most. I've lost interest in big-budget MVs, and prefer a smaller scale spectacle.

I don't know where to put this. If it doesn't belong here, move it.

Music is a form that everyone can enjoy, but sometimes, people just don't try new things.

From my experience, there are two types of close minded music fans:

    1. The Lazy Ones
These are the ones who either listen to the same three artists or just listen to the same Top 40 hits the radio plays all day. I'm okay with people having certain artists they enjoy and that's fine, but I find that people who just stick with one or two genres of music aren't really that open. Sure, you can like and dislike certain genre's and that's totally cool, but the ones that refuse to listen to any other artist instead of the ones they only listen to I find are not necessarily boring people, but they're just lazy I suppose lol.

    2. The "Wrong Generation"
Now these guys are the ones you see on the YouTube comments section of every classic rock video. You know them very well. They act like all modern music sucks nowadays and that their music is superior. They constantly remind you how much of today's music is just garbage rap and that there is no good music. They lie in their own bubble of ignorance and bitterness. These are the ones that constantly praise bands like Black Sabbath or Queen and tell you about how they are the greatest bands of all time and that they write "meaningful" lyrics instead of G U C C I  G A N G.

I'll admit I used to be like the second one, albeit with metal instead of classic rock. However, I eventually opened up to all sorts of music with Visual Kei expanding my tastes further.

Does anyone have any experiences with people like the ones I mentioned?  What would you say to close minded fans of music if you ever met one?

I think @psychonnect_rozen  is referring to a select, but present group of metal and/or rock elitists to a fault. I've bumped into a few here in the U.S.

You'll absolutely have boomer-tier* or Shapiro-tier dweebs that'll trash anything that isn't their "brand" of music, but that kind of mentality has a presence in every vein of music (with varying levels of objectivity.) There are classical music fans who think jazz is "not playing by the rules", old-school hip-hop heads that think "mumble rap" is trash, 90's dubstep fans that disavow the "bro-step" of the early 2010's, the list goes on.

While this doesn't account for everybody, most metal, metalcore, deathcore, and prog-metal fans I hung out with were themselves already steeped in rap, hip-hop, and mainstream pop. (Metal covers of pop music are extremely common.) On a personal note, a lot of my deathcore friends were also huge EDM nuts.

Metal as a genre also has the natural tendency to branch into everything, and rock was born from blues, folk, and country. Look beyond your social bubble where you observe those generalizations and you'll find plenty of people who are pretty much chill w/ whatever.

On a side note, anyone who takes pride in some sort of elitism as a personality-trait can go fuck off. Those types of people can get over themselves and learn something from the rest of society.

*Not referring to actual boomer age demographic, but the obstinant "boomer" mentality. idk, felt appropriate.

So this hentai is i watched is about this dude. He has a little sister who has a crush with him and he has a crush on his friend. So one day, he gets a dvd in his mail. He pops it into his computer and it’s basically the girl he has a crush on being gang raped by a bunch of guys. He guiltily watches as she’s being deprived and ruined by a bunch of ugly guys while he masturbates, with him being guilty. He continues to be sent videos of her being raped while she acts all innocent while she’s around him at home. Dude is traumatized.

It turns out his little sister is paying a bunch of creeps to rape and mindbreak his crush and films her being defiled to him as a fuck you. She eventually kidnaps him and rapes him. Even worse, she gets pregnant from the ugly guys and gives birth to a child with the guy who has a crush on her.

That’s how far I’ve gotten into it. It’s fucking disturbing and uncomfortable. And yet it’s my friends favourite hentai for some reason

It’s called Otome Dori for all you sick fucks. Have fun. Be sure to play Tsumi to Batsu while your watching

EDIT: Also forgot, the dudes still rape her after she’s married and the never ending cycle continues. In the end, the guy is traumatized, depressed, broken and in despair

Yoshiki isn’t a bad person. He has a good heart. However, at times, he can be a bit much. When you’re basically the biggest Japanese rockstar on the planet, it’s kinda hard not to have an ego. I still stand by my opinion that the only reason you should hate Yoshiki is because of his ego. I feel like people run their mouths on him way to much on here. We get it already, he has an ego. It's kinda lame at this point. Just don't make posts about him if that's how you feel about him

May not sound unpopular but a strong opinion of mine.

Don’t force yourself to like every album of a band’s discography. For example:

    - I love Dir En Grey, but I dislike Arche and TMOAB

    - I love The Gazette, but I disliked Beautiful Deformity.

What I am talking about are people who act like ALL their albums are masterpieces and are like “your not a true fan if you like all their albums”. It’s a horrible mentality that makes you look silly. I've seen this in many fandom's before and it's honestly such a toxic mentality.

I like all of Dir En Grey’s albums to some extent as most of them are great albums in their own right (Yes, even TIW), however I am very critical of Arche and TMOAB. Arche because it just felt too long and wasn’t worth more than one listen, other than a few songs and TMOAB because it felt like a disappointment after listening to Withering to death. That does not mean that all the songs are bad, I just don’t like them as albums.

Also, don’t shit on others for liking a disliked or unpopular album. It’s stupid and immature.

There is no reason for it to be over eight minutes long. I would say the song is a solid six minute banger. But what does it mean when I place it second on the list?

A huge difficulty I encountered when making this list was coming up with the order. Like a lot of others in this topic, I don't truthfully have a Dir en grey album I hate, so instead I organized it from "least favorite" to "most favorite". I did the same thing for the tracks on each album, and then I looked towards the singles and other releases for each period so I could analyze each era as a whole. I ended up with three different lists and this is the output after I merged them all together. That's why I stress the difference between a good Dir en grey album and a good Dir en grey period so hard; it actually does matter.

I'll go through my thought process with GAUZE below.

GAUZE is my third favorite Dir en grey album and the one that introduced me into this world, so I have fond memories of it. When I rate each track individually based on my enjoyment, I get the following score:

    1."Gauze -Mode of Adam-" 2/5
    2."Schweinの椅子" 3/5
    3."ゆらめき"  3.5/5
    4."Raison Detre" 3.5/5
    5."304号室、白死の桜" 4/5
    6."Cage" 4/5
    7."蜜と唾" 2/5
    8."Mazohyst of Decadence" 2/5
    9."予感" 4/5
    10."Mask" 2/5
    11."残-ZAN-" 3/5
    12."アクロの丘" 4/5
    13."Gauze -Mode of Eve-" 1/5

Ranked on how important I think the song is to the album experience the list changes to this:

    1."Gauze -Mode of Adam-" 0/5
    2."Schweinの椅子" 3/5
    3."ゆらめき"  5/5
    4."Raison Detre" 3.5/5
    5."304号室、白死の桜" 4/5
    6."Cage" 5/5
    7."蜜と唾" 3/5
    8."Mazohyst of Decadence" 5/5
    9."予感" 4/5
    10."Mask" 1/5
    11."残-ZAN-" 2/5
    12."アクロの丘" 4/5
    13."Gauze -Mode of Eve-" 0/5

When I zoomed out and took a look at the whole GAUZE-era, there are some other tracks that get into the mix such as "-I'll-" and "Unknown...despair...a lost". Tracks we consider classics that fall out of the analysis if we only recommend the album. The fact that these two tracks weren't on the album brings down the score because that is the difference we have been trying to isolate! This is also why MACABRE ranks lower than intended on my list; I love the period to bits but the album has a lot of filler that members can make arguments for cutting and replacing with various other songs. Put all of these factors together and out pops the recommendations I wrote in the first post. Not perfect, but I tried to look at the whole picture and the small details at the same time, so the end result is always fighting against itself in principle.

VULGAR ends up at the top of my list because it's the album that requires the fewest amount of modifications to enjoy the period to the max. Listen to VULGAR + "腐海" and that's everything you need. UROBOROS falls to second because of the sheer quantity of tracks provided in this era and how many unnecessary retakes there are (and the "remastered" edition left an aftertaste of piss in my mouth that has yet to dissipate).
