To be honest when that video was uploaded last year about his surgery I already felt like he was going to regret it at some point. It just doesn't fit with the rest of his face, or just his entire body in general. He's very petite and there's nothing wrong with that, though he preferred to look more masculine. Which of course is understandable, but just enlarging his nose wasn't going to solve that "problem"...

Miku70 reacted to patientZERO in Takadanobaba SUPER LIVE THEATER AREA to be closed
In shocking and disheartening  news, the infamous Takadanobaba SUPER LIVE THEATER AREA is closing down in a little more than a year. On December 31, 2021, the venue that's housed countess VK lives from bands like Nightmare, The GazettE and DEZERT is closing its doors due to the demolition of the building its located inside. Quite a few live DVDs have been shot in AREA over the years, so it'll love on in the footage and in attendees' memories, but it is a loss for fans of VK from the 2000s.

As mentioned above, it depends on what kind of music you like. When my friend first introduced me to VK about 14 years ago, she was into bands like Alice Nine and Antique Cafe but they aren't my cup of tea  as I've always had a thing for darker aesthetics. I then by chance stumbled across Velvet Eden and have been in love with them ever since (before the reunion...) . But I'm aware their music is not for everyone and I've come to like many different bands with time though so I think it's about finding the right songs.
    Most recomended
Velvet Eden - Sad Mask , Schwarz Stein - Release Me, Malice Mizer - Syunikiss, BUCK-TICK - Kain, Közi - Memento

Miku70 reacted to spolochon in Honest opinions on K POP?
I know quite a few people who were definitely into VK "in the old days" and are mostly into Kpop now, saying they lost interest in VK because there's nothing so great anymore, got boring and all. As far as I know, they enjoy the fun of kpop, mostly (even if they liked the darkness of some vk bands... I guess growing up can make you yearn for lighter stuff, as your life gets dark enough as it is).
Also, let's face it: back in the days, many VK fans considered the musicians as SUPER GOOD. I mean technically good. As in considering Dir en Grey's Die or Karyu as some of the best guitarists ever. And so on for very liked bands. While, let's be honest... the melodies can be nice, that's one thing, but they're extremely rarely so good technically?
So, well... now they enjoy the dance, which can be very good indeed, and the happy-light mood of the songs. Why not, to each their own. And many VK fans enjoyed the bands for the musicians' faces, it was most obvious when concerts were played in our countries: unsurprisingly, they now praise the good looks of Kpopmusicians. "To each their own". Special bonus: they can see some bands quite often, and in large venues.

@Punk The Japanese government was very hypocritical (probably not for the first time, on different matters): 10 or 15 years ago now, they launched a program called "Cool Japan". It was aimed at promoting Japan as a "soft power" (to be understood as "culture power" in diplomatic terms). I was at a conference where some Japanese official in my country presented it, a few months before it was actually put into place, and the aim really was to promote anime, music, manga and other culture products consumed and enjoyed by youngsters. It was meant to help fund their exportation, through different grants / financial incentives.  But for whatever reason (I don't even want to think of the possible reasons), things changed when it was put in place: I only ever saw it used to promote the classical culture of Japan (tourism for the oh beautiful landscapes, traditional ceramics, no and other traditional types of theater, and so on.) From our end (countries where the culture would have been exported), when we got in touch with the Japanese officials (embassy and such), the answer was that the demand had to be made from Japan. But the Japanese artist or organisation never -asked- to go abroad, they were always contacted first or at most contacted people abroad to know what conditions could be offered for "that act" to be exported: they wouldn't ask money for the export to happen because they wanted to be paid for the export. "Japanese pride".
To sum up, it was everyone's fault. Although we can note that the government found ways for "traditional culture" to be funded by the Cool Japan program, while it appears it never applied such efforts for the "youngsters culture".

Miku70 reacted to Total Saikou in An Cafe
I guess it's a rumour but I always heard from other people that it's because he was treated unfairly by the rest of the band (as they said, "bullied/picked on") and eventually he got sick of it and left. I remember seeing this subbed interview where they made fun Bou's looks and he laughed in this sort of resigned manner, I should've watched more but that one sealed this rumour as real to me. That being said, the idea that he left music because he was sick of it could be true.

I imagine that it might be like a cross-roads situation, wherein Bou was sick of dealing with the rest of the band and left because he didn't like the band life itself. The attention, the huge crowds, etc. I champion shyness as the #1 reason why Klaha exited stage left and never came back, and I feel like that may be the same for Bou too.

The reason behind his departure will probably always remain unknown but the fact that he left the band and completely vanished from the music scene makes me think that he wanted to quit music and do something else in his life, but who knows ?

Miku70 reacted to Ikna in The history behind visual kei
I am taking the freedom to revive this thread, though with a more specific question (or more of a personal thought I want to share). I have been thinking the last days a lot about the connection and possible influence of japanese popculture, especially manga and anime, and Visual kei.
Now we surely have all come in contact with a lot of foreign "journalists" who branded Visual kei as some kind of real life version of Manga characters. I am sure we all can disagree with them at first though it's understandable that they come to that conclusion as many VK hairstyles seem to be borrowed right from a shonen manga. But maybe that assumption isn't even that far off. So comes my question: did Mangas and Animes have had an influence on Visual kei? And how big is it? Are VK bands the real life versions of a shojo manga reading girl's wet dreams?
It's certain that Visual kei music and bands had influence over Manga artists so it seems more logical that the type of leather wearing bishonen with long or crazy styled hair are the result of manga artists stanning for their favourite musicians and vocalists. See Kaori Yuki who is probably most well known for having integrated typical VK fashion into her Mangas (especially Angel Sanctuary, which is filled with VK guys). I remember people pointing out that some of her characters are even based on real VK bandmember, such as Hyde (L'arc~en~Ciel)
What I found very interesting (and a nice look into early 90s VK history) was the connection between VK and Shojo mangas. In 1989 Manga-ka Kusumoto Maki started to work on the shojo manga Kissxxx. The story is about the love between the singer Kanon and the sister of his bands' bassist. Kanon is the vocal of a punk band called "Die Küsse" (which may ring a bell). Maki was apparently inspired by local punk, post-punk and wave bands and bases the look of Kanon on those. At the same time Visual kei was taking influences from these genres as well. I am not sure if Visual rock already existed as a word at that time, but Kanon can still be seen as your prototypical VK guy.
According to comments surrounding the manga Kissxxx had a huge influence on VK (and not the other way round it seems). It may be oldest record of the phrase "Eins, Zwei, Drei, Vier" to appear in connection with VK. I don't think it has started to be become a ctachphrase in VK until 1990 at least. (but someone can proof me wrong anytime)

In the early 90s Penicllin have made a song and video about the manga, featuring Hakuei as Kanon (and replaying some of the key scenes of the manga. Also all outfits are based on the original character's clothes)

Then there was a 90s VK band called DIE KUSSE. Mejibray named a song after the fictional band too, but according to Tsuzuku the song isn't directly connected to the manga (but the line "eins, zwei, drei, vier" is referenced and according to the same interview about the single Meto aimed for the punk look because Kanon was in a punk band). I am sure there are many more groups referencing the story or taking inspiration from it. Kusumoto Maki also did a illustration for the cover of Vk band's Gilles de Rais album 殺意. And I think Deshabillz borrowed a picture from an eye (in one of the chapter pages) from the manga for a cover of their tape.
So yeah… maybe that does add a bit to the whole 90s Vk history and where it got it's influences. It would be cool if someone was able to translate really old magazine articles as this would help "recovering" some of it's history. I find it strange how no one has ever mentioned the influence of manga in such a discussion though.

I don't think Kana has contacted anyone from Codora since 2018. Rather, it was his "bandmen friends" (who are not from Codora) who suggested that he hold a live in the future.
