What do you think is troubling you about it? :o

I was kind of uncertain at first, but once I figured a theme I was having fun

@reminiscing2004I was confused what theme to go with, so I decided to challenge myself with a type of music that I don't listen to very often and so I'm finding it hard to pick songs to go on it  It's my fault, but it's a good challenge to myself!

I'm very curious to find out what others have picked as a theme

  2. reminiscing2004

Wow! It's been a while, this should be exciting.
  3. versailles look even more aesthetic in real life!! i can die in peace now, i think

  4. reminiscing2004

I agree this song is an improvement. No cheesy synths for one, and the drums sound way better. These sound much more like typical real drums layered with sample triggers modern metal shtick, as compared to 'be proud' which was literally just midi. Thoughts on this project in general: Guitar work is awesome! The solo on this new tune was definitely my favorite part, and there was some sweet shred action on the last tune too. And lose the "ohh-oooh-ooooh" singalong things. This can be really cool at a climactic moment, but it just sounds forced and bland imo. It's like telling you "hey this is the emotionally powerful part of the song" instead of it actually being that. Promising though, hoping for a banger from this band. . . and Juri's vocals don't sound "improved to me", watch the DELUHI live clips, he's always been a god

I fell out of the Visual Kei scene in 2010 because all of my favorite present bands were disbanding or going to shit. I fell back into Visual Kei in the last two years because of a discovery/re-appreciation for all of the gold in the late 90s and early 2000s. While I don't have anything present or new to look forward to, I keep finding new things I love from the past. All of my favorite bands I discovered in 2016 were ones that disbanded 15 years ago! And despite that, they make me feel like I've really gotten into VK again.
  6. Anyone know much about Atmos*note?

All I know is that the singer transitioned to a woman after they disbanded, I believe.

Ahh, interesting. I've been enjoying their songs on the Shock Edge 2003 and Decadence 2004 V.A.'s. Will reply back here if I ever find more, besides the generic info on vkdb/last fm. Thx!

  7. reminiscing2004

Also consider, comparing record sales nearly 10 years apart from each other isn't totally seamless, because physical sales have been on the decline drastically.
  8. Favorite early ガゼット release? I love them all dearly, but the Zakurogata no Yuutsu/Zetsu/Miseinen maxi is just one of the most perfectly crafted releases I've ever heard. Anyone else feel similar?

+1 on this, though I'd also argue that a lot of 'audiophiles' with expensive nice quality listening gear don't have an ear trained enough to discern the difference in file quality. also the whole topic of active listening comes to mind, or the lack thereof. I can't count how many times I've showed someone some music and after when talking they'll go "what pads?" "i didn't hear any bass" "what backing vocals?". people who are really into music, too. that was a sidetrack lmao, but more or less i feel you shiroi

You should buy some! ^^ I live in a city where its impractical to have a drum set in an economy flat, so on days I don't go to a drum practice room, I just 'practice' with the sticks on my bed or something. Better than nothing, and hell, you can find a pair for the price of coffee, so you don't really have much to lose.
  15. Does anyone know if Sherow Artist Society is still a thing? There site still hasn't been updated since like 2008, so I'm wondering if the label is still responsible for anyone

    1. suji

      suji

Fuck, that's a good question. MU was the only band in that label recently, but I believe they're on hiatus as they kicked their vocalist out...other than that, it's just there...?

    2. Zeus

      Zeus

only bands i remember on that label were matenrou, versailles, and MU. the first two are still on the label but are managed by major labels and SAS gets a cut. idk if kamijo is doing anything with it or not but it's not gone just not active.

    3. Lestat

      Lestat

I believe Sherow Artist Society gradually merged with Chateau Agency (Kamijo's production office, since 2014) and became one entity with the latter name.

OMG. Couldn't agree more with Alice Nine, Kagrra, and Ayabie. Mostly agree with Nightmare, except I think anima is a great album, so I'd extend it to like 2006 for them. The single tracks being the most boring on it, but the rest quite nice imo.
  17. DELUHI was SO fucking good

I was binging live clips last night. It's just crazy how tight/good they sounded live. Every solo is nailed, the switch between harsh and clean vocals -- I could go on forever. Too good!

sadsadsadsad music sad sad sad sad music sad
  19. fukurou / consent gets me HIGH

  20. Anyone have examples of bands that were way better in their later discography?? I feel like all of my favorite music is from the first half of an artist's career, even outside of VK.

There are so many bands/artists that I even feel like I need to explicitly mention that I only like their old stuff in conversation, because they've gone from really great to really not great imo. Thoughts?

    1. diryangrey

      diryangrey

mucc for sure for me, i like their older stuff but right around 2010 they got hella more interesting imho.
Boris as well, for a non-vk answer; Flood and Feedbacker are masterpieces but aside from those i think their songwriting's just gone up from Pink on.

not sure how popular either of those opinions are tho.

    2. Spectralion

      Spectralion

Royz is getting better every album. Their last album was a hard banger.

    3. Tokage

      Tokage

IMO cali=/=gari peaked around the period when they released Dai 6 - Dai 8, which was after 2 vocalists had come and gone already, does that count?

Malice Mizer's first stuff w/ Tetsu is distinctly worse than everything that came after imo, so i guess they fit the bill for me

I somehow like Dead End's newer stuff more than their older material, possibly because I dig Morrie's "new" voice more than how he used to sound back in the day

The Gallo's like this for me if only cuz their older material's sort of iffy in terms of production values from time to time

Buck-Tick and Merry are examples of bands that are consistently good for the most part

For a non-VK example, for some reason I enjoy P-Model's later stuff more than their older material, idk why

I miss early psc sfm these days

had a blast of newfound love for this song in particular, but kaggra, is next in my ~nostalgic4teenyears~ playlist

      reminiscing2004

early PSC is all of my favorite shit. the early 2000's due le quartz, miyavi, gazette, kagrra, alice nine, hanamuke is the stuff i have so so so so much love for.

Great post, i love the gazette's uber emotional songs from the era. juunana sai, ito, okuribi, miseinen.

I don't know how else to express my profound agreement. nostalgia YES

  22. Spent all my money on clothes and CD's... now sleepy Plastic Tree binging and wishing I could cry #FEELS

  23. reminiscing2004

This came into my head instantly. Early Alice Nine kicked so much ass. 華想夢想紙 is a lovely mini, generally not very nü metal, but this song of course. 7 STRINGS THO Also, if ムック's Kuchiki no Tou is considered nü metal, that's probably the best nü metal record I've ever heard.
  24. reminiscing2004

I feel you on the losing/lost interest in new bands. It's okay though, there is always lots in the past still to be appreciated! Welcome
  25. reminiscing2004

My initial reaction was "what how did you find this???" because this was my go to to post in the thread, but then I couldn't find a yt link. Yeeeees.
