  1. I can see Raison D'etre by Dir En Grey being put on Pornhub with the title "Skinny girl is tortured by Trap while music plays"

  2. I swear I've heard the Koto melody in the beginning of Rui by Kiryu somewhere. I think in a Michio Miyagi piece?

  3. I hope when the Nightingeil revival is in full swing, that they'll release music videos. Nightingeil had a lack of music videos and that is disappointing because as a La'Mule fangirl, I've just gotten into Nightingeil and I need PVs xD.

Do they have any live DVDs?

Oh wow xD. At least my favourite song from them is on the tracklist though, so I'm hoping there is a download somewhere of it xD

  4. Western "Metalhead" logic: Black Sabbath and Metallica. Sound nothing alike, both considered Metal. Bullet for my Valentine, sounds something like Metallica. Not considered "trve metal".

Actually, this is kind of the logic of fanboys in the western side of the music scene anyway. The only reason I don't see it in Vkei is because it's accepted that the lines between genres are blurred.

      Himeaimichu

@reminiscing2004 I know right? I only use them as a convenient way to group similar bands, but in the end, it all boils down to Rock and Roll.

      orange~

I definitely don't see BFMV as punk, wtf? I think many of the metalcore bands are closer to metal than punk anyday. Maybe if you wanted to simplify their genre definition, I'd just say they're rock or something.

For me technical instrumentals + heavy music = metal

but then again, I don't really care about genres.. so who am I to say?

  5. Unpopular opinion: Saver Tiger, Mephistopheles, D'erlanger, and Dead End are just as important as, if not more important than X Japan.
I mean, Saver Tiger formed before X, didn't they?

    1. Seimeisen

      Seimeisen

I don't give a single fuck about Ekksu Jyapan

And I roll my eyes every time I read an interview and someone says they're "inspired by X"

    2. Himeaimichu

      Himeaimichu

@orange~ Saver Tiger actually formed in 1980 xD

But I think Vkei really turned away from its original path when Buck Tick and Kuroyume came onto the scene. I mean, before that, it was mostly an offshoot from the Japanese Thrash Metal, Hardcore Punk and Speed Metal scene, but then you have Buck Tick with this Gothic sound, and Kuroyume combining the sounds. I think it's funny how in the west, Thrash Metal was considered a response to Glam when in Japan, bands like Aion combined the two.

    3. Himeaimichu

      Himeaimichu

@SeimeisenI care about X, but I care about the other early bands just as much.

Just like how I care about Dir En Grey, but I also care about La'Mule just as much because they were just as influential, if not more.

I mean, if you're popular enough in the indie scene for bands to copy you even before you even make enough records, that says something xD

  6. There are Vkei bands named D, S and M.

The only thing missing is a B...

  7. OMG the MH flyer though xD

  8. Wait, is that a Shamisen I am hearing in Madeth Gray'll's "Kuroshichou no Hanataba"? There is one part where it oddly sounds like a Shamisen is playing

  9. Just tried Madeth Gray'll. Gotta say, idk why I haven't tried them out much before.

  10. The screams in "Mirror Mirror" by La'Mule sound like he's going "Meow Meow"

    Once heard, can't be unheard

  11. I haven't listened to Xaa Xaa much, but I must say I can really hear a lot of 90's influence in their song "Doshaburi No Kanojo."

Do they have any other 90's sounding songs?

  12. I like how "Under..." from Kuroyume sounds almost metal,
like, it sounds like most 90's Vkei alt rock songs, but they gave it such aggressive drums and decided to put a really aggressive acoustic guitar.

Ironically, it sounds like an upgraded version of the trend it started

  13. Moll'e Node is like the only KoteKei band I've seen use a 7 string guitar. (Unless someone can point out another one, which would be awesome)

    1. Zeus

      Zeus

hard to say since a lot of kote has been lost to time

    2. Zeus

      Zeus

@Komorebi = "kotekote" is over the top old school 90's aesthetics, sometimes with a modern twist

    3. Himeaimichu

      Himeaimichu

@ZeusTrue, but most KoteKei bands play Gothic rock and Alternative Rock, not Dj0nt, so its very unlikely xD.

But if Moll'e Node uses one (and I could tell it was specifically an Ibanez 7 string), it's definitely possible another one could.

  14. So Vasalla is on the "Metal Archives". I thought the two people who ran it didn't accept Vkei bands because they're all "faggots" and "not true metal". I mean, Vasalla may play speed metal, but they ain't free from the crossdressing.

But I thought "fag metal" was "pseudo metal", according to them.

    Ah whatever. They're hypocrites

    1. suji

      suji

i see a lot of vk bands on that site all the time...

    2. Mamo

      Mamo

Yeah they're on their sometimes. The site is incredibly ambiguous about what is metal. Dir en grey still is for some fucking reason, but Kyo from deg is dafuq?

    3. Himeaimichu

      Himeaimichu

Honestly, if you look at the discussion about Dir En Grey on that site, it's cringey. It's all a bunch of homophobia and "core isn't really metal"

  15. Uggh. Cringing at my old comments on Wagakki Band videos. I may still strongly not like them, but gah I look so closed minded. Just.. *Cringes and deletes comments*

  16. I feel like some labels spend WAY TOO MUCH on producing their bands.

Like, you shouldn't have to spend all that money processing vocals, especially if you have a good vocalist.

Also, sometimes, too much post production can ruin a band's sound

    1. Zeus

      Zeus

i reviewed it a few months ago and i wasn't a fan of it but that was more the boring composition than yuko's voice. since im' deaf to this stuff i'd be interested to know what ur ears hear.

    2. Himeaimichu

      Himeaimichu

      Ok, I'll take a listen then~

    3. Himeaimichu

      Himeaimichu

So so far, yes, there is metric ass ton of post production on Yuko's vocals on the EP. It's actually insulting to her vocal skills. That amount of reverb and post processing honestly isn't needed, and kind of drowns out her voice.

Again, f*ck Avex. They always manage to mistreat their artists in many ways, and this is just one. I think Yuko knows she's too skilled for this, but she probably doesn't have a say in the production of her own music

    2. Spectralion

      Spectralion

I didn't even know that they on Matina in their early days X)

    3. Himeaimichu

      Himeaimichu

@Spectralion Oh yeah, they were. They were signed to Eternal, which was owned by Yayoi, guitarist of La'Miss Fairy, and formerly of Mirage. In turn, Eternal was a sublabel of Matina.

Eternal also had Deadly Sanctuary, which had both Yayoi and Yuuga (who would go on to form Devil Kitty and we all know who signed to Rockstar Records (Also owned by Yayoi) when they came back), and Etcetera, which was the old band of Yukika, who now owns Ains, and was the first guy to sign R-Shitei and Alsdead.

So, they had some pretty important people on there xD

  18. Just saw a zodiac signs post that claimed Babymetal and Wagakki Band were VisualKei *Cringe*

  19. Imagine if Kyo legally changed his name to just Kyo. He'd be the VisualKei equivalent of Cher

cher is a talented legend though

  20. The only reason I consider Kuroyuri to Kage to be EroguroKei is because they're actually really inspired by Eroguro artists such as Suehiro Mario, and Edogawa Rampo. Also, they're influenced by Caligari and Inugami Circus Dan. However, I will say the term is often overused, and shouldn't refer to just any macabre band. Only ones actually influenced by Eroguro art

    1. Elazmus

      Elazmus

I didn't know this about Gichigichi tbh apart from the subject matter I had no idea it was a reference! That's cool considering it was one of my favorites from their album - kind of still one at this time lol!

I'm really reminded of the internet a few years ago seeing anyone who talked about visual kei tried to identify sub genres unnecessarily XD

    2. Himeaimichu

      Himeaimichu

Yeah, I remember that used to be big xD. I only ever use subgenres as a convenient way of classifying similar bands. Really though, it's all Vkei, and that's all it really is

  21. Remember kids, everything on Tanuki is 100% true and is a good primary source. Yes, kids, that's right. And remember, ever Vkei guy is gay, married to a woman, married to a guy, homophobic, and single, all at the same time!

Also, according to Fox News, CNN and MSNBC (Who we all know are also 100% True) recommend the best way to achieve longevity is to drink this substance called Cyanide!

    1. Himeaimichu

      Himeaimichu

@KomorebiI usually take what they say with a grain of salt and some skepticism. However, I feel as if going out of their way to get into Vkei guy's personal business, or leaking nudes is just utterly wrong and needs to stop.

    2. Komorebi

    3. Himeaimichu

      Himeaimichu

Oh yeah, don't get me wrong. The gossip can get quite funny too. Even though me and my friends end up roasting Vkei guys over simple rumors, it's just all fun xD

  22. When I straighten my hair, don't use hairspray, my hair ironically begins to look like 90's VisualKei hair.

The irony is, 90's Vkei hair generally requires a lot of hairspray xD.

Though I guess the easiest route is just do what you'd do with long "scene" hair, minus any hair product.

    1. suji

      suji

same, except only my hair curls up on one side 😂😂😂

    2. Ikna

      Ikna

do you have thick, curly hair?
Mine too starts to frizz when I straighten. Unfortunately it only looks bad, like I have straw on my head. If it looked better it would be cool, because of then I could easily do 80s goff hair.

    3. Himeaimichu

      Himeaimichu

@IknaYeah, my hair often gets curly, but like messy curly xD. Straightening is the only way I can look good, and it prevents what would be a lot of frizz, at least on my hair.

I often use a little, but not too much hairspray on the bangs, so they won't curl out or frizz

  23. So I made this meme/audio edit/experiment, where I took Kurui Dorei, but kept it in minor key (at least I think I did), since the original song switches from minor to major a lot. I at first did it to see if it would make the song any heavier. It actually fits well together. Thank gods Kuroyume were able to really play on time, or a normal listener could tell the audio was edited.

  24. The only one of two youtube channels that had good quality footage of Kabuki plays have been taken down...

And it was the only one that had act one of Benten Kozou..

  25. For my fellow fans of Traditional Japanese music, here's something interesting: Hikaru Sawai, son of the Koto master Tadao Sawai, started the proto-VisualKei Metal band Mephistopheles. His Koto work is also very Metal influenced.

IDK if he still plays in Mephistopheles though.

    1. Komorebi

      Komorebi
