I wonder if the ex members of Zi:Kill are looking at the current visualkei scene like "You young whipper snappers. Back when I was in a good band, we didn't disband at the drop of a hat, we'd just fire our drummers, continue to fight until we begin to almost hate eachother, then remember we have an audience in the UK to care about! Oh, and then we'd disband"

Still can't get over the fact Hakuei claimed that only Japanese people can be Vkei because according to him, you have to have a very specific set of facial features.
Guess any Japanese person who doesn't look like Hakuei can't be Vkei. Sorry guys, must be Ainu or Ryukyuan or something lmao. Like, I'm no anthropologist, but according to Hakuei, having a sharp jaw is a Japanese trait.

I'm considering making a blogspot for Visual Kei downloads, a-la evil-en-lucifer, because I'm gonna be real, MH is probably gonna die and those 10+ years of hard to find vkei downloads could disappear.
So I was wondering if any old-school collectors would want to help with my project.
I have a lot of Vkei CDs I inherited from my ex who doesn't like Vkei anymore, so I can start it off, but this is gonna have to be a group project.

Music in general is like a drug, but Psychadelic music is the most potent out of all music. Seriously, songs like Dir En Grey’s “Raison D’etre” or Black Sabbath’s “Paranoid”, or literally any David Bowie song literally make me feel like I’m on some kind of hallucinogen.
Should music even be making me feel this way? I literally put no substances in my body, but yet I feel high from some songs.
Maybe I just need Mental Help... or weed xD
IDK, does Psychadelic music does this to anyone else?

I wouldn't call Black Sabbath psychedelic either, and it's first time I've done so. But when I think about it I don't think calling a track like Planet Caravan psychedelic if far off at all.
But the main reason I mentioned these tracks is because he/she mentioned Black Sabbath to begin with, and if you want something close to psychedelic by Black Sabbath it would be these tracks.

I have done the research and GossiP is NOT a GazettE copy.
First, I'm making this as a status rather than a forum post, because I don't want to start a toxic forum post. If I get flamed, I'll just delete this status.
Second, to the main point. I hear people say GossiP is a copy of The GazettE, and I can kind of see where they're getting at, but let's look at the facts. GossiP is very influenced by the GazettE, specifically their early, heavier era. Saku's vocal style is very similar to Ruki's, and they both share similar makeup. HOWEVER, Ruki's has a more child like quality and is meant to represent insanity, whereas Saku's is more aggressive, and has influence from traditional Japanese singing/narration. While The GazettE did play around with nostalgiac Japanese elements in the early days, GossiP's full on aesthetic is basically Japanese Nostalgia (Though they have gone outside a few times, like with Psycho Pass and Darekasan Ga Koronda). What I mean by Japanese Nostalgia is basically mixing of old Japanese (Edo period to be precise) with pre-modern (Meiji restoration to 1945) elements. Like, old military outfits, calligraphy everywhere, archaic dialect, traditional houses, etc.
In terms of sound, that's where things really diverge. Most of GossiP's influence comes from their old band "JyuLie", which had pretty much the same sound, just sometimes with Japanese Instruments. Now what are JyuLie's influences? Well, it's mostly a mish mash of Byakura (whom they collaborated with once), The GazettE, R-Shitei, Ningen Isu, etc. In GossiP, the Byakura influence is a bit less, but you see a lot of Punk Rock and Hardcore Punk influence in GossiP. Yes, while there is a lot in The GazettE too, The GazettE is more conventional in terms of sound. GossiP kind of takes things further. Like "Baka Aho Manuke Banzai". It has a full on Hardcore Punk sound. And even in songs with direct Gazette influence, like Akudoukai Kusottare Koushinkyoku, they make it a bit more heavier, adding more metal elements.
Also, I have not heard a GossiP or GazettE song that use the same melodies. Also, The GazettE has a genre which I haven't seen in GossiP. Metalcore. I haven't heard a GossiP song that I would call Metalcore. Only Metalcore influenced.
So in conclusion, is GossiP is GazettE copy? Nope. Very influenced and obviously looks up to the GazettE? Definitely. I can understand though why Gaze fans may be worried. With how influential the GazettE has gotten, there are GazettE clones everywhere. GossiP however, is not one of them.

I swear people are only telling me I didn't do research only just look at what I typed, but didn't read and jumped to conclusions. Either that, or actually trying to explain things to make them easier to understand is too "opinionated". I tried to make this a little easier to understand so people would know what I mean, instead of just compiling everything into a boring list. However, I tried my best not to put opinion in this. If I did, I would have went on about how I like both bands. I actually took the time to analyse the music of each band, and to tell me that I didn't do research and just put a bunch of opinion personally offends me as not only a person who took the time to do research and compile it, but also as a musician who plays guitar and sings, and actually does research on music genres so I know what I'm talking about.
You want to assume I didn't do research and made only opinions? Fine, but prove it. Prove it so I can improve how I compile my research. Don't just say that it's just a bunch of opinion and no research. Actually prove why.
-
@Disposable I never said it was vague influence. I actually said there was a lot of influence, but there is also a lot of differences that set them apart.
And if you can come up with a Gazette song that is completely the same in both melody and composition to a GossiP song, tell me the songs and I will personally listen to them both.

Yup this dude is a basic bitch confirmed. And the reaction to "What's up people"...
One, your audio is out of sync. This ain't 2007.
Two, "This riff makes you want to stab your neck", how funny because looking at you makes me want to do that to you.
And the Alien reaction... I want to call 911 because it looks like he's having a seizure, but then that'd prevent natural selection from taking place.
This guy definitely has a stable income and is living in a very nice home in the hills and has a job that doesn't involve leeching off a family member.
Also, why do all these guys look like they came out of a Richard Spencer rally about how the fat bald Jew-Turk-Tatars are taking over the pure land? I guess if your video ideas aren't original, your parents probably took the same amount of work and originality into making all of you

Turns out there are 2 Vkei bands named Sex Android. One is the well known Eroguro band, the other is a very short lived Deathrock band.

-
FWIW, the death rock Sex Android were pretty solid actually, from what I remember hearing from them on YT. Nothing exceptionally mind-blowing, but pretty solid. I was also surprised to find out that 'our' Sex-Android's first releases were in like the mid-to-late '90s (also afair they sounded a little more straightforwardly punk on those than on their later, more 'known' art pop material where things got mixed w/ other influences) and they had some power gap between that period and their art pop era
-
Himeaimichu reacted to this
-
Yeah, Sex Android started out quite Punk. When their last guitarist, Toru, joined, they kind of took a more creative route, including some folk influence, surf rock influence, etc. They even have a full on Enka song (I think everyone remembers Kowenji, Na No Ne... though xD).
Upon further research (AKA I found someone in the know xD), the Death Rock Sex Android was apparently meant to just be a small project, which is sad because it sounded quite good. They probably would have gotten more popular if they continued on into the 90's, because the 90's saw a rise in Gothic genres for Japanese Rock. If they had continued Sex Android into that era, they would've gained a bigger fanbase, possibly among the Vkei scene because well, they do look Visual xD. It's like the project ended at such an inconvenient time.
But at least there is Phadia xD

I feel like some labels spend WAY TOO MUCH on producing their bands.
Like, you shouldn't have to spend all that money processing vocals, especially if you have a good vocalist.
Also, sometimes, too much post production can ruin a band's sound

i reviewed it a few months ago and i wasn't a fan of it but that was more the boring composition than yuko's voice. since im' deaf to this stuff i'd be interested to know what ur ears hear.

So so far, yes, there is metric ass ton of post production on Yuko's vocals on the EP. It's actually insulting to her vocal skills. That amount of reverb and post processing honestly isn't needed, and kind of drowns out her voice.
Again, f*ck Avex. They always manage to mistreat their artists in many ways, and this is just one. I think Yuko knows she's too skilled for this, but she probably doesn't have a say in the production of her own music
-
I'm still baffled on how I got copyright striked on a クララ零式 video a few years ago.
Like, they're long disbanded, and I don't think they were ever even signed to a record label that cares anything about copyright.

Why the hell did teenage me buy into the dumbass rumor that Mahiro from Kiryu was a middle schooler in Curse and MADARA? What pre-teen lets Yuuga write him a song themed around Nakadashi (I don't think I should have to explain what that is lmao)

From what I'm guessing, he's just performing as much as he can until he can't anymore, and honestly, I don't blame him. I just hope potential blindness doesn't stop him from pursuing his passion any further, as blind musicians were historically very important to the development of music (especially traditional Japanese music)
-
No matter how hard I try, I can't get into Cardi B's music. I just get meangirl vibes from her music, and I'm sick of dealing with petty ass meangirls IRL, what makes you think I'm gonna handle a musician who makes it part of her music? lmao

So I decided to give some GazettE stuff made after 2007 (specifically DIM) a 2nd try (mostly because I was desperate for something similar to Memento Mori), and I gotta say, I like the songs Leech and Nakigahara from DIM. Leech is just very high energy and aggressive, which is my thing lol. And I think Nakigahara actually directly influenced Memento Mori, since it uses the Koto, and Memento Mori was known for it's use of traditional Japanese instruments.
Though most of the album is still ehh for me, I have more respect for them than I used to.

I don't remember that, but I would totally be for it. Both versions from 別れ道 are seriously wonderful, to have a 3rd one with their newest music style would be interesting.
No idea, besides their fabulous look for their recent lives, I haven't check videos or whatever they are doing for it. I prefer to wait until they formally drop it, previews and spots didn't work for me lol

This is a weird question, but am I the only one who thinks that smart phones have taken the wrong route, design-wise?
I'm sorry... but I really don't see the appeal in having wafer-thin phones that can bend in your pocket if designed poorly, or phones that are literally all screen.
Imo, those don't improve my experience at all. If anything, they are a detriment to it because there is so fucking little to hold onto when watching a video. It honestly feels unergonomic to use, and this may just be my nostalgia for the early 2000's speaking, but I honestly miss the physical feel of old-school smart phones, and I honestly don't feel that just making the entire phone a screen, with no physical buttons at all, or even edges, really improves the user experience.
I honestly would be happy with a phone that has the physical design of a t-mobile sidekick, but with the modern capabilities of modern smart phones.

You forgot about the biggest crime in smartphone design in the last years: removing the headphone jack. I don't care how convenient it is to have no cables - the jack worked fine and the sound quality is better and more reliable. I know people who'd smash their bluetooth speakers and headphones against the wall if it weren't for the peer pressure and "coolness factor".
The last years we didn't have any true improvements as storage, memory and cpu capabilities are only slowly getting better and at this point it's just producers and brands inventing new gimmicks to incite people to buy the lastest tech. Shit like making phones so thin they need a screen repair after one year and having to buy extra bluetooth devices or an adapter to listen to music are the things that help these companies to fake innovation to get more money… while prices are increasing every year. -
My biggest headache tech wise is having to not only choose whether I charge my phone or use earphones, but also the fact that my phone has an exclusive earphone/charging jack so if I'm going out with more than one device I have to take out multiple headphones. That and like aimi said m ergonomic issues, my hands are destroyed from phone use.
-
Remember when the future meant super tiny phones?
I let my phone slide and hit the ground or fall just because it's now designed to do so. haha within reason so I don't have to buy another one. Lucky so far but also ready to smash it's face. Tech indeed has improved our lives but the moment it stops working like it should, it brings out a unique kind of rage. I'm talking about texting correct English and casting to my "smart" TV. I used to love customizing my phone interface, but my latest had so much stuff for me to go through to "get to know it" I quit and just change the bkgds now...
Also, I think having great cameras on phones kills my camera buying. I still want a camera but then I need a phone which costs more than a decent camera but the phone comes with some high tech lens and I can't avoid it. Now two big appliances in my bag.
I miss flip phones and phones with full keyboards.

Anyone remember the joke of a band that was Heaven's Dust? The non-Vkei band with a guitarist who looks Vkei, and had Kurona (though he was replaced by KAI Shine) and Daisuke from Wagakki Band and CrowXClass?
Yeah... this song is still shit.
- Show previous comments 4 more

The only reason why I am mildly interested in HeavensDust right now is because a member from one of my favorite early 1990s VK band just happens to be a current member.
If KoREDS wasn't in the group, I probably wouldn't even known that HeavensDust was still around. I will probably quit paying attention to them once KoREDS leaves, though.
-
Himeaimichu reacted to this
-
@Ikki Oh wow, interesting. So I guess Heaven's Dust would be Half-Vkei. Still doesn't change the fact Shin is an edgelord lol. Every song from them uses the F word so much, and they're so political lol. (They have some really good heavy stuff, but it's lost in all the political stuff, which normally is very watered down)
TBH, actually, if they weren't so political, and Shin wasn't as edgy (and his vocals weren't so weird), I'd enjoy them more. Annihilation though has got to be the worst sound engineering I've heard for a high budget production.
In all though, knowing their member history, I wouldn't expect KoREDS to stay in the band very long. They've gone through so many musicians, and Shin is the only remaining original member.
I wonder how well KoREDS and Kurona know eachother. They're both part of the Vkei scene, and were part of the same band.
