Thanks guys for making this happen! It was lots of fun to read (even if they leaned in to the whole 'mysterious kote band' thing a bit too much, haha).

It just says, announcement of a new chapter, gives two live dates (far into the future mind you) and then a date 26.07.2020 "to be continued...". Guess they're not giving up after all, wonder if they gave themselves such a long window to find a drummer...

Ultimate! I'm so glad that everyone came back. Sometimes I play Smash 4 on my old 3DS and I used to play the 64 version a lot on an emulator.

Neat! Which Smash Bros were you playing? Been a huge fan of the game ever since Melee. Tales of Vesperia and Mario Odyssey - both super addicting and fun

hi all :0 i've been aware of vkei/jrock scene since like, 2009, thanks to my older brother listening to bands like alice nine/a9 around that time HAHAH i had my entire emo + anime vocaloid japan phase until like, most people, i discovered kpop! despite it being my main interest i did still listen to lots of jrock and whatnot though i guess i'm wanting to fall back to my roots (if u can rly call it that) and really get into vk now, kpop is kinda boring after you turn 18 if we r honest LOL i've been lurking mh for some time and finally decided to make an account and i'm keen to do some deep diving !! gazette is my favourite band, so they're really the only band i've realy kept up with. mentioned before a9 is ofc on the rotational playlist, but some newer bands i really enjoy so far are diaura and nocturnal bloodlust, and the few songs i've listened to from deviloof are great!! if you have any recommendations, please let me know! otherwise its nice to meet everyone and i hope i can make some good friends within the vk scene (ง •̀ω•́)ง✧

I would love to see what ideas Sakurai will have for the next installment of Smash (if there is one). Ever since Melee, I've tended to main as Marth simply because he held a sword and was fast (not that I was any good compared to some better players, lol). But with a huge selection of characters in Ultimate, I love playing with a lot of the characters, although I guess I tend to rotate between Link, Shulk, Peach, and Pikachu. So, pretty much a drifter as well, haha Although, I've tried out Bayonetta and she seems like a super fun character to use in battle! Same with Cloud and Corrin. How did you feel about the latest DLC character, Byleth? Haha, I know what you mean. Creating absolute, insane stages where it's almost impossible to fight, let alone walk around in XD I think that's what I love about the Smash series. The items are crazy and fun to abuse and the stages gimmicks are absolutely great to screw around with friends; you can customize how you want to have fun whether that's being super big on screen or super tiny and metal at the same time. The options of having fun are endless. I also love spending time in training mode and experimenting with any of the given options available (like speed, items, health percentages, etc.). Have you ever tried the 4 (or more) players stages? I think it can get a bit chaotic especially on the smaller stages when there's so much happening at once on the screen, lol. Speaking of stages, do you have any favorites you like to play on?
  21. 1 point
It's probably my favorite Smash entry to date. I grew up with Brawl and I personally have an attachment to it, but the series really does get better over time. You're totally spot on about the growth thing; I wonder what the series will be like in the next decade or so? Probably too big and flashy for the imagination lol. The huge amount of stages and characters are definitely a big appeal point. I mostly play a mix of Bayonetta, Cloud, and Corrin. My old main back in Smash 4 used to be Toon Link, I had a half decent win streak with him but after I went through a really bad online losing streak I gave him up. What's your main? Do you have one, or do you drift around like I do? My favorite thing to do in Ultimate is to make dumb stages and try to not get eviscerated on them. I also play "real fighting games" (Street Fighter, KOF, GG) but they don't have anything to do that's nearly as fun as Ultimate. Playing with items on a dumb stage like Hannenbow beats practicing tech any day of the week! Even if I do find tech practice personally fulfilling.
  22. 1 point
Nice, same here. It's a great series. How do you like Ultimate? I love the wide selection of stages and characters. It's amazing how far Smash has come ever since its 64 days. Haha, I played a lot of Melee on the GC.

LUNA SEA - MOTHER [Discussion Thread]

oh shit! My bad, man. I had no idea this is how the polls operated. I just added an option for "none". Hope this helps! As for me - when I first got into J-rock (2004/2005-ish) i had a bad habit of downloading albums, and just skimming through them and keeping whatever appealed to me at the time. LUNA SEA was one of the bands I did that with, so I've liked a random batch of their songs for a while (stuff like "sweetest coma again", "into the sun", "be gone"), but I got caught up in so much other music that I just never bothered to go back and actually give their albums a full listen. It wasn't until I saw soko ni naru's cover of "Rosier" that I got interested in hearing the original: And so I literally just got around to listening to this album maybe a month or two ago, and it's a great listen! Obviously, I'd be lying if I said I considered this album a classic (as I clearly don't have much of history with this record), but I can definitely see why it's considered one. Sugizo's guitar work and composing has even been a huge influence in younger, non-VK bands like Ling Tosite Sigure and soko ni naru. So it's clear that LUNA SEA has had a far-reaching impact. Imma definitely have to dig into some of their other albums now!

    Why do you like VK?

I think it was a way of escaping the dull suburban life I lived as a closeted gay teen. I liked the flamboyance, theatrics and expression. The catchy guitar riffs and pronounced basslines captured my interest sonically, and I liked the way Japanese flowed with the melody of the music. I think being a sensitive and empathetic person by nature I gravitated to the idea of expression through sound, without understanding the words.

Hahaha I know what you mean 😂although, I can't imagine having a set up like that in my home JUST for coffee. That's why I'm just a normie. MMm I love hojicha. My sister works at a coffee shop and she's made me a hojicha latte before. good stuff.

    Coffee ☕ vs Tea 🍵

I used to drink hot coffee when I was working graveyard as a stocker, but never went back to it after I switched to day shift. Even when I went back to working graveyards I didn't do it, but I do like Starbucks still. When it comes to tea, the only tea I've ever been able to drink is hot green tea.

Dunno if VN count but I've managed to read up to Higurashi When They Cry: Minagoroshi these past months. Amazing series really, the best psychological horror experience I've ever had. Every chapter has been great so far (chapter 6 was a little weak though) and I'm excited for what the grand finale will bring! Other than that, been playing some Smash Bros., Guilty Gear (XRD and Accent Core), and Jojo modded M.U.G.E.N. too.

LUNA SEA - MOTHER [Discussion Thread]

ROSIER was my introduction to the band, so I can't help being partial to this album. It's one of the all-time greats. LUNA SEA really upped the bar not only for other bands but themselves too with this album. It's pretty much flawless from beginning to end, full of memorable moments, and even the few tracks that don't stand out for me are of a category which would count as "pretty great" if any other band did them. Zero weak songs. From what I've experienced, it translates to live performance really well too (witnessing FACE TO FACE in the flesh back in Germany 2010 was one of my top-tier vk experiences of all time). Favorite tracks: LOVELESS, ROSIER, FACE TO FACE, IN FUTURE @CAT5 Damnnn, I wanted to skip choosing a weakest track from this flawless album but the poll makes it mandatory, how rude! ;(((

Their best album and one of the most influential albums in the scene to date. It was more or less the blueprint for the entire white-kei / soft visual / actually popular kei that came in the late 90s / early 2000s. How do people not like "Fake?" It's literally quintessential 90's sentimentality. My top highlights are Fake, Civilize, Rosier, and FACE TO FACE. Title track is a snooze.

Due to COVID-19, their March 21st live was cancelled. The members thought of something they could do during this time, so they filmed a live music video for Angel Lip and uploaded it on YouTube.

Face to Face and In Future are two of my favorite Luna Sea songs. Mother isn’t my favorite album (I tend to run towards Image or Eden or even Style) but it’s undeniably a classic in the scene.

Great album for sure... genesis of mind is one of my favorite LS songs and most of the other songs here are quite enjoyable, but i don’t consider it their best as many others do... that would be style or image

Great initiative, there's definitely not enough LUNA SEA discussion on the board. This is such a classic that it's difficult to even begin to talk about it. For me this is the epitome of LUNA SEA. A perfect mix of their early rawness and the soft/poppy sound they did from EDEN up until STYLE. Not to mention their timeless classic ROSIER is on this album. It is to me, their best album and probably one of the best visual kei albums ever to be released. Every song on this album is way too good. The ones that stand out a bit from the rest to me are: Genesis of mind, Loveless, In future, Face to face and Rosier.

    2020 Japanese Music Ratings

updated: 02/06/2020 GREAT (stuff that I TRULY enjoy listening to, and that truly moves me. the question here would be "which tracks DON'T stand out?".) ★★★★★★★★★★ ---> ★★★★★★★★★★ downy - 砂上、燃ユ。残像 single | 2020.02.05 This is not the greatest downy track in existence, but dayum, this band's sound just speaks to my very soul! It's almost like it gets better with each listen. The remix is dope too. Looking forward to the album next month! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- DECENT (stuff that I consider listenable, but not particularly compelling. may have potential to grow on me. could have a few of standout tracks) ★★★★★★★★★★ ---> ★★★★★★★★★★ DIMLIM - MISC. album | 2020.01.28 I had very high hopes for this after hearing "what's up", but those hopes were quickly dashed. I honestly can't decide if I want to file this one under "Decent" or "bad". "What's up" is still a great track, and I like "For the future", too. And there are some nice ideas here and there, but everything about this album was handled in such a tacky fashion that it's almost embarrassing. - sleepy.ab - fractal album | 2020.01.29 Stellar production and beautiful soundscapes that are, unfortunately, restrained by boring songwriting. Given their last few albums, I expected this turnout tho. Despite the snoozefest, there are a few wonderfully written tracks here that are well worth it. - tricot - 真っ黒 album | 2020.01.29 I haven't really been into tricot since their early, EARLY material, so I was pleasantly surprised at just how listenable this album is. In fact, this is definitely the best stuff I've heard from them in ages, plus their musicianship is has grown exponentially. Still, they're just missing something. Maybe this one will grow on me? - envy - The Fallen Crimson album | 2020.02.05 I'm a sucker for envy's sound in general, but the excessive, airy post-rock elements here just get really old really quickly. It's like they were playing straight from the post-rock handbook on some songs. That said, I do appreciate the more hardcore moments on the album. "Fingerprint mark" in particular is amazing. Shoutout to Achico for being featured on track 4!!! - 羊文学 - ざわめき ep | 2020.02.05 Typical, run-of-the-mill indie-rock with female vocals. Pleasant, but completely lacking in character. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- BAD (stuff that doesn't do a thing for me/stuff that I have no desire to listen to again. may have one or two standout tracks, but is irredeemable otherwise.) ★★★★★★★★★★ ---> ★★★★★★★★★★
