A new band, called Də'mëŋ†ɪa Ṃa:liϧ, formed recently consisting of vocalist 「XXX」 and keytarist 『xxx』. While there isn't much known about them at this point, they did announce their first release. PROLOGUE~Shuukyouteki na Mousou~ (プロローグ~宗教的な妄想~) is set to be released on April 16th. Both the design of the cover and its medium (demotape) suggest that we can expect an interesting addition to the new wave of bands that bring back the spirit of 90s visual kei. Actually, they wrote that the mystery guitarist is someone who has been quite well-known for playing the piano. They won't reveal who it is just yet, but they did mention the person is "fxxkin' spicy".

As of today Kyo has been kicked out of Dir en Grey for spending too much time on his second band Sukekiyo. They're still planning on continuing with all currently planned performances but Die will be acting as the vocalist until a full replacement can be found. They will have a mystery member fill his part as a guitarist for lives in the interim. I had to translate this from their Japanese twitter so I might have missed some details and nuances. I'm linking it here so that anyone with a fluent understanding of Japanese can get the full picture. Ever considered that maybe not every bandoman is a high school dropout without a real job on the side? Just saying. How would it be hypocritical? I am talking exclusively about digital releases, I straight up said I condone it when it comes to physical releases?

It's a grey area for me. On the one hand, it's way easier to chuck $2.58 at a single on iTunes than it is to spend $30 to have it physically imported from CDJ. But at the same time, sometimes record deals fall through or the band splits and then their material is gone from streaming services. For example, GE+IM's digital single is now gone, and all of UnsraW's materially used to be streamable, but that got removed a few months ago. Unfortunately, being available digitally comes with an asterisk that says *(for now)

It depends on the circumstances. Some lo-fi recordings hold up because the guitars still have mids, the bass still has low end, etc. Basically, it has what I call the "minimal EQ required" to sound good to the ear. Songs like "Machibouke no Kouen De" by The GazettE, or pretty much anything from Vice Risk. Others hold up because the low fidelity works with the aesthetic. For example, DEViL KiTTY's "Hello Katty" is probably meant to sound like a bad MP3 download. Or how Guruguru Eigakan songs are based on Japanese popular music from the 1900's to 1945, so some of the older songs kinda have the lo-fi feel of older music. However, some low-fidelity recordings do not hold up. A good example is, weirdly, of Devil Kitty again. After Sasaki switched to guitar and Shita joined on bass, Yuuga had the wonderful idea of scooping all the mids and low end from the guitars, making it sound like it has a phaser effect, but "stuck" somehow. This is seriously ear grating and a serious step down from "Ese Ikare Rockstar", which imo had really great production, not just by DK standards but also by early 2000's vkei standards. Basically, I would say there are different tiers of Lo-Fi. You got S-tier, which sounds good to the ear, fits with the aesthetic, and holds up. And then you have F-tier which is the worst of the worst, garbage, would make Black Metal jealous lo-fi. Most Vkei falls somewhere in between

Holy fuck some of these drum samples are the same ones DEViL KiTTY used. Literally the exact same. I'm sure a lot of other bandmen probably also use the same drum machine. I know a few Metis Gretel songs do.

Its the same cassette tape; in the blog entry you linked, the writer stated that she used a 'mystery card' in exchange for the cassette tape. If I remember correctly (from what my friend told me, cos I was unable attend the last day), on the last day of the 6 day gig, there's a special counter for you to change your 6 ticket stubs for this 'mystery card' and what this mystery card is for will be revealed in future. I suppose this "[collector] Tour Extra ~Mystery Day~" (and maybe other gigs during the period?) is where you exchange the mystery card for. Its a gift that you get when you submit ticket stubs from all 6 different gigs of "10th Anniversary NEW LEGEND OF HIGH COLOUR" (each day where the band will play all the songs from 1 specific album) in 2011. There are 2 versions; 1 with the cover in red & the other in black. There is no difference in the content though. I attended the 1st 5 days and passed the stubs to a friend who attended the 5th & 6th day, after which she used to exchange for the cassette tape then
