hello there! my name is moth and i'm here! i dont have much to say but hello. i hope this site is active and can help me expand my taste and introduce me to new music! i became interested in visual kei/jrock in late 2017. honestly, visual kei fashion is just absolutely stunning. the colors, the makeup, the elaborate outfits, the piercings, all had me absolutely in love with this style. i decided i had to get into this in one way or another! my gate to entering this "world" was matenrou opera, still a big love of mine. getting into visual kei is actually also what got me into loving the metal genre. i've listened to quite a bit and tried lots of different stuff until i really found what i liked! i really like the look of bright/neon visual kei but the music isn't usually my style. i find that the vocalists never suit my taste for one reason or another. my taste right now is my big love for galneryus, matenrou opera, syu, and various songs from various bands including but not limited to the gazette, leetspeak monsters, x japan, malice mizer (tetsu era is AMAZING), hyde, versailles, etc., most of the stuff you probably usually see newbies into. this community seems intimidating because everyone here probably has a profound amount of knowledge that you can beat me with! but i hope that y'all are welcoming and i hope we can get along! the world of jrock/metal/etc is intimidating itself because of how large the scene is but i hope to jump in and find what i love! (by the way! my very specific music taste is stuff that sounds incredibly chaotic and all over the place but is still very melodic and put-together. plus operatic vocals have my whole heart!)

Man, Shudder gave birth to VK for me... Before that, I was just a nasty, J-pop loving anime fan. It's not even an understatement that that song single-handedly changed the trajectory of my life hahaha.

This should become a famous pasta in the VK community, we just need variations of it and then we are set. If Kyo tatooed this I would think its retarded but sukekyo is the most pretentious band VK has ever seem so it wouldn't be out of character but in this case it looks like the guy just had some mental breakdown about something and did the classic "I am le avant-agarde artist" to cope

And, it’s been announced. I really don’t know what to think... on one hand any kind of activity from them is welcome. On the other, to see such a great band stuck in limbo like this is heartbreaking. I’m torn. But anyhow, here I have reported the announcement.

Hello all, its been a while since ive done an into post on a forum and it feels pretty good. Hopefully this place is as active as it looks at a glance. Ive been into J-Rock/Visual Kei (if what i like is considered that, im not good at keeping with all the off-chute genres) for a long time, since 2005 in fact. Back then i was very active on a lot of forums. After a while though the internet seemed to change and forums in general seemed to die out and my social interaction with people on these niche topics with it. Since then ive relying on accidentally stumbling onto things for new music. Though that can be fun, more and more im not finding out about bands i love disbanding until years later. Yesterday i found out all at once that 3 more are gone and thats a lot to take in a day so i decided to see if i could find anywhere if there was a news forum (because im old and forums is all i understand). Thank you google for Monochrome Heaven which is a site i do recognise from back in the day. No idea if i joined back then (again, very old, bad memory). So here i am, with only a few artists im a fan of that may or may not still be active looking for news, friends and recommendations. My first stumble onto Japanese music was, as i said in '05, i was downloading things via limewire and somehow ended up with yuuyami suicide by pierrot and fell in love with what i heard. It took a hella long time but i was eventually able to get their entire discography though limewire, learning to stay up into the wee hours for the best search results to get what i needed. Though i have since been able to purchase most of their albums, i do still listen to those old files. From there the fascination grew to the point where it completely overtook wastern music. In the last 14 years ive purchased only 1 English album. (Even that was a shock, i was so out of the loop this band i had liked as a teen had broken up and made a comeback without me knowing lol). Pierrot are still my all time favourite band. I cant really explain what i like in music, i think at least the bands i like a miles apart in style and tone but i defiantly dont like operatic or screamo vocals which unfortunately seems to be what a lot of VK falls into. Admittedly a lot of it is on the softer side and sometimes veering violently into pop. This makes taking recommendations hard because "you like this, so you might like this which is similar" doesnt seem to work. So heres a weird list (all names romanised because my pc gets upset when i switch it into japanese): Back in t' day(so were talking back before 2010, these were my gate way drugs so to speak): PIERROT An Cafe (early stuff, everything while Bou was still with them) TMR (told you it got pop-y) Nightmare (early stuff, when it was weird and interesting) More Recent stuff: Angelo (kinda obligated into this one since i love Pierrot so much but admittedly their last few albums have been too samey to hold my interest) Lycaon (not so much as Initial'L, their first single was fine but then it went down hill real quick) Pentagon Kameleo i.Rias Purple Stone Zin (and Yusai even more but well, that didnt last long did it) Anli Pollicino Codomo Dragon Royz (other than that weird phase they had trying to scream) Zonbi Neverland Blu-Billion ViViD (the early stuff before it got TOOOO pop) FEST VAINQUEUR And a few others that, i like what theyve done so far but its too soon to tell OR did like 1 single and dropped off the face of the earth. Other Japanese interests: Despite having a 800+ book collection of manga i dont consider myself an anime fan, i dont keep current and like most things i seem to be stuck loving things that are pre 2010 that the young 'uns have never heard of or never seen. Since anime seems to be most peoples gateway into other aspects of japanese culture just wanted to put it out there that thats not what im into these days. This being out of touch affects my business as i have a side-gig as an artist selling at conventions and struggle between drawing what i like and drawing what will sell with no knowledge of, or interest in what is currently popular. I am a big fan of games that delve into traditional folklore though and do try and buy art books when i can. TLDR; Hi, im new and i like some stuff and not others. Lets talk.

Honestly, it took me like 2-3 years of listening to it on and off before I really began to appreciate the nuances between the songs. Before that, I thought all the songs sounded really bland and same-y.

PLAY DOLLs is my definition of a perfect album. Washed out, hazy sound, full of melancholy, and raw as hell. Love listening to it every winter on those cold, bitter nights.

So I chose to put it as ecstasy; the angel is fully enjoying the sinful pleasure of being rammed with the sex toys (naughty, Jojo). Thus, I put this as a “romantic dream” *支配されて/shihai sarete I just want to point out this “controlled by your love”; it’s a pure domination of her emotions, she’s completely ruled/controlled by him influencing and determining her fate *亡者/mōja A dead person, a ghost, but rather than “ghost” I put this as soul. This does refer to a soul that wanders the earth without being able to move on (yet). This word can also be used to describe someone who’s obsessed with something, for example the most classic would be 金の亡者/kin no mōja, someone who’s money-hungry. I can see this as possibly meaning she’s lusting for the pleasure/lust, but since there’s no direct indication for it I’m going with a soul. I do have a strong feeling Jojo might mean she’s lusty for flesh, however. It’s definitely notable. *爛れた/tadareta+共喰/tomo kū This word, it’s generally to be sore/inflamed skin/bleary/festered - or to indulge in something. I feel it’s a double meaning here. She’s taking a bite of sore flesh; I’m thinking here they’ve had so much sex that they’re sore af. Bringing me to the next line, which has 共喰/tomo kū which I noted earlier; I’m interpreting this as them devouring her together over and over ( in a sexual manner, which brings in the soreness/too much sex again). Let’s copy paste here again: “*告げる/tsugeru This is one of those words that always makes me stare at the wall, and wonder how to put it. This is to tell/inform/announce, indicate, signal, mark - I see this often used as tsugeru the end or the time. It’s hard to explain. It’s like something has been decided upon, and it’s conveyed, “I’ll tell you when it’s over” is one sentence this word would be used in. But when it’s not an indication for the future I find it hard to decide how to put it. This time we have “proclaimed a blessing”. This rain, supposedly, saying the flames of condemnation are a blessing. It’s really another great song (and Jojo, as per usual, looks gorgeous). I really really do love Jojo’s complex lyrics, but damn does it take a lot of time. But it’s genuinely fun to figure out his stuff and to put together pieces with the changes and how the sentences change completely. I really dig his style, so much. And I love the references and clever choice of words.

It will still be released before the new X JAPAN album probably, haha.
