He's just completely illiterate to western culture and completely out of touch with the music business in general. In his mind, they're just one big break away from performing Endless Rain at the Superbowl in front of legions of crazed fans losing their minds and John and Jane decorating their bedrooms with X Japan posters. The Japanese rock sensation takes over America! It sounds like big in Japan, except over 30 years ( in some cases 40 ) after the fact. They make fun of Japanese game developers and etc. sometimes for being so rigid and resistant to change or whatever, but what about an aging "rock star" thinking that letting people know how big of a rock star he is that he'll make waves with a fucking poodle rock band in 2019 fronted by an asian grandmother who looks like fucking Yoko-Ono and where the second guitarist has the hair of someone who went to Woodstock 1970. I can't get enough of this saga, I hope they'll eventually write a book on how held on his dream of American conquest until the bitter end* *and just in case someone doesn't know, their movie was literally only 100% a prelude to this big american break happening — and so far that hasn't happened.

Conspiracy theory: the new album has been finished for a long time, but Yoshiki and the label are waiting for X to become a household in the US with all these promotional gimmicks before releasing amid every single bribeable corporate media outlet touting ”THE LEGENDS ARE BACK.” In Yoshiki’s mind the western breakthrough is due any day now, and only because of backroom dealing, share owning and yakuza favours from back in the day when X was printing money everyone is going along with his delusions and Japanese SONY execs are essentially obligated to make all these phonecalls stateside ”hey it’s me again. I owe this guy for all the coke and underaged hookers back in the day so can you just get him on the lineup? Just put him somewhere in the back it doesn’t matter and we’ll sell it to him that he’s going head to head against Beyonce and she’s scared out of her wits that he’ll steal all the buzz. Yeah no worries he’ll buy it, he’s fucked up most of the time anyway...”

I think they just don't know what to do. Ever since they realized that they were in this position they probably started to rely on Retsu to pull all the strings more than usual and he probably is just as lost as them in this situation. All of the decisions they're making are so sporadic, like when they dropped their visuals it just seemed like some sort of desperate last effort attempt at trying to appeal towards western fans or something. All they have to do is focus on getting new members and then take some time with the album. It's a slow yet sure and unfortunate decline that I don't see them recovering from.

Has anyone ever watched that shilled to the max doc about X japan? does Yoshiki cries for 30 minutes because Hide died on it? tbh I really wish Hide was alive because he was more talented than everyone on X, he sings even better than Toshi and would probably have released three albums worth of good music by now while Yoshiki would be doing nothing besides still thinking "making it" in the west matters.

There can only be one solution, Retsu should be cloned and now he can even play the bass and second guitar parts live! he can even phisically argue with himself while Sho inhale screams eternally in the corner

It’s obvious the label owes him favours/he invests his own money on this. There was a shill article on the Conde Nast owned pitchfork about the movie that was coming up on p4k’s sponsored fb adverts for well over an year, and writing about a band like X is 100% out of their usual MO. Another one to get such a baffling spotlight on p4k is BTS where their ”How BTS stays radically korean” is still appearing on my feed. This is obviously a paid deal with Conde Nast, and I have no doubt in my mind that this and stuff like X’s american festival gigs are more backroom deals than ”fuck guys, we got to get this dude from the market where no one speaks english and who’s recognised in the west only by crusty power metal fans and weebs who grew up in the early 2000’s on this next to Grande and McCartney.”

What are you listening to 2?

I was recently reminded of how much I liked Genkai Haretsu and it's one of those things I remember every 3 years and wonder if it really was that good and am always reminded that yes it was, So I am listening to all of Psyence this time and yeah ... it blows. I am his newest fan and this is my newest favorite album

I love this band and I really hope the album is a killer - but I echo the sentiments that continuing on with this half-lineup is a big cause for concern. How old is Retsu? Mid-20s, maybe? Just browsing his social media definitely makes me feel like he's going through that thing that all creative types tend to go through where you just...outwardly reject whatever it is you think people want you to do. From the dropping of visuals to not filling out the lineup to what seems to be a lot of over-promising for things that just don't seem possible (they announced another full length literally like...MONTHS before RELEASE?? REALLY??), this is the stuff that ends bands. And I really hope that's not the case here, I really want them to pull it through, but I don't think they can do that as a three piece.

    Official Music Hate Thread

Not to this again but im bored. a while back someone said Satsuki is a great vocalist and he is better than Yuuki (Lycaon, Initial'L) and this event popped up back in my mind and i just feel like Dragging Satsuki as well as RES a little though at least they have a bit of actually talent. The band has a cult following probably Diru garbage and those with taste that miss Baiser and maybe other 90s La'mule cause that's were they got their sounds from. Lycaon got stuff from 90's as well but it was upgraded and never clone shit. Then when they disbanded they got the Elvis and Amy Winehouse treatment. But Satsuki's mid and Low range voice is straight ass to point it's annoying. Then we have these high notes and falsettos that have no depth and are just him crying or whining past that Kon range (you try to do it). Satsuki is just weak. and i wont bother with his poor imitation Kon and Baiser screams and i need a inhaler growls -- though he did have some nice wet one in a track or to. The only thing he really has is the "is that a female voice" he did back in the day on track like vision of you, sincerely. this is how you do a low voice this is how you do high note and falsetto Now theirs been an update on Yuuki since that thread and Yuuki's still Bodies but harder Now that's raw natural, fucking actual, talent, body your fav at metal or a ballad. As for RES Jesus, Alejandro, MELANCHOLIC, or Dahlia ect. solos. Thank U next. 毒女, can you feel it, ect solos to for Initial'L Now if Yuuki isnt your cup of Tea, here are are other bands smoking Satsuki/RES I know the VK like to come as a whole and protect and shower a few bands (diru, Gazette, RES, ect.) with love through delusion and peer pressure and shit on the rest but you can always do some research and form your own thoughts.

I've gotta say out of all things that un-ironically make me genuinely happy is, Sonic The Hedgehog. Even being a huge fan Im not exactly sure what draws me in, maybe it's the lush world, the dynamics between characters or just the general light hearted feel overall. Im such a huge baby but whatever, the games themselves whilst, not always are the best, can have fun in them of course. Whilst that amount of fun can vary for different folks, theres even a shred of enjoyment to be had. The Characters dynamics with each other is also something very endearing. The way Sonic's cocky, heroic attitude meshes with Tails's kind, good boy demeanor makes me smile like a doof. I love their friendship and the character arc for Tails that he can't always depend on Sonic because there are times when Sonic can't be there and that's something I really appreciate cause not all best buddy/sidekick dynamics are given that arc. I love that Shadow, given how much his past sucked, was able to let go and move on for the sake of his future. Even though his amnesia wasn't handled in the best way..because people could've honestly told him about his past but looking back on it now, it kinda makes sense that no one told him given how things went aboard the ARK it seems like that subject is a bit...heavy to explain to him that everyone he cared about were wiped out because of his development and existence along with the fact that amnesia is not cured just by simply listening to what someone tells you. The Soundtracks for the Sonic games are something I give credit for my love of multiple genres of music. The most Notable ones being, -Planetary Pieces (Sonic Unleashed OST) -Digi Log Conversation (Sonic Adventure OST) -Shooting Star Story (Sonic Riders ZG OST) -Complete Trinity (Sonic Heroes OST) -Multi-Dimensional (Sonic Adventure 2 OST) -Lost and Found (Shadow The Hedgehog OST) -Speedbeats Grand Prix (Sonic Riders OST) -VIVID SOUND X HYBRID COLORS (Sonic Colors OST) -Original Groove Rush(Sonic Rush OST) I recommend some if not all of these soundtracks, i feel like theres something for everyone in them from Industrial Metal to Smooth Jazz, to some cheesy Vocal tracks that have that corny charm to them that'll have you singing along after the first listen or two. For me, everything about this series, flaws and all genuinely bring a type of weightlessness to my chest that I'd only be able to attain through narcotic sedation. I definitely cannot wait for the new Movie, they have my boi looking absolutely adorable. ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️

    Honest opinions on K POP?

I came back to see if anyone was discussing the subject further and I realized a I got plenty of reactions, and am finding it kind of funny, so maybe I should explain my point a bit further because it all seemed like a big wall of text without a clear point. I really wasn't saying a lot though, I just ended up addressing different replies without quoting. All I really wanted to say is, from the point of view of someone who really liked j-rock and despised k-pop for the better part of their lives, you can't really deny that there's always (and by always I mean in the last 20-something years of course because K-pop didn't exist before nor had Korea been too influenced by the US) been some degree of cultural overlap or influencing because that's what pop culture worldwide always does, and it's not really fair to compare or put one against the other as if they're Polar Opposites In A War because it's quite out of context, it's just not how it works. I mean, media and cultural industries do run deeper than that. So Japan started embracing Korea and Korean products because of dramas, AFAIK, and games and manhwa kind of found their way as counterparts (almost counterfeits, really) to whatever Japan had been doing ages before, before K-pop music emerged as one more kind of product. No real artistic appeal, but I did listen to Japanese music way back when BoA started becoming really popular. Japan was all over Namie Amuro or Ayumi Hamasaki and all of a sudden there were (the half-American) Utada Hikaru and BoA in the spotlight as well. And SME was pretty keen on exporting their artists since H.O.T. so after BoA kind of managed to Be It they made TVXQ debut alongside with her. And this is where the MV of Tri-Angle which I mentioned before kicks in. I'm no expert but I believe Japan had been exporting a lot of pop culture to SK for years and that was more a reply. Which was... quite a thing. And by thing I mean quite a cultural appropriation as the kids of nowadays would put. (Final Fantasy? Visual kei? You decide.) And it worked, lol, because soon enough (the fandom of TVXQ which was quite hugeee in Japan) Cassiopeia was formed, SNSD and SuJu (and Big Bang, etc) were pretty popular overseas as well and that's when the whole Hallyu 2.0 thing kicked in. So basically SK was just trying to export stuff - really, trying hard, because being so closely dominated by US and Japan-originated products Probably Sucks - and that's how we ended up with the most seemingly random but not really mix of cultural influences in k-pop. Because it worked, it sold, and yeah. Cue seemingly out-of-place Pocky/Pepero game levels of fanservice, colorful hairstyles and clear imitations of whatever j-pop boy/girlgroups were doing. And because there's always been this kind of insurgence of j-rock in j-pop music as well, it's thrown in the mix somehow. So when I did that video, it was more as a joke because I ... kind of started digging deeper for j-rock/visual kei music after years of just listening to ONE OK ROCK or whatever was "pop j-rock" at the time, and I was talking to a friend and we were like, oh, ok, it's definitely being influenced the other way around now. Understandably so, especially because since k-pop made successful breakthroughs into the US market and, with it being the biggest music (actually, general pop culture) market/export in the world, of course it's a huge influence to Japan as well. So we were kidding about how even visual kei PVs nowadays sometimes looked less like 2000s or 90s visual kei PVs and more like k-pop MVs, although they're still distinguishable to the non-casual viewer (but yeah, if you go solely by commonplace stereotypes like "k-pop artists don't create songs/play instruments", "k-pop has no Japanese language music", "k-pop has no foreigners", "K-pop is cuter", "but fanservice" "but makeup" etc... you're just prone to go wrong). As I was saying, pop cultures in general do overlap always, regardless of nationality. That's characteristic of, well, pop culture in a globalized world. But that's really as far as my enlightenment goes, lol. And then you have the western fans of Asian music whose preferences seemed to change, not so much because it did change, much more so because of the shift in East Asian music market and accessibility (I remember it was super hard finding subbed Korean videos back in 2008 so I was much more a NEWS fan than a TVXQ one, although I listened to both - but nowadays it's harder to find Johnnys videos because they're all taken down LOL) and promotion, stuff like that. What you subjectively make out of this is just what you make out of this, bro. I literally don't think I can delve any deeper than this.
