    hi!

i'm p sure there's not a way for an intro post to not be hideously awkward but w/e. i've been lurking for the past few days so i figured i should probably make an account. i got into this kinda stuff ~2004 as a teenager when my dad's job moved us to tokyo, but i dropped out of it in 2012 after i finished university and moved back to the uk. i'm now in the throes of a predictable late 20s crisis so i've been enjoying re-discovering stuff i had forgotten about, and finding a bunch of new things (ty). so hi, nice to meet you, etc.

I think a lot of people think that those who have been abused need to forgive in order to 'truly move on', but a lot of the times that's not necessarily true...

damn I've had periods last longer than this band.

Last live on nov 12th it seems like. A shame the band had potential but never went anywhere, at the very least I hope Muku continues as a vocalist cause hes got some real talent there

    random thoughts thread

I’ve applied for two teaching assistant jobs, one is in China and the other is in Japan. I’m so excited about the prospect of getting to live and appreciate places I’ve wanted to go, but I’m also terrified of the idea of uprooting my entire life, leaving my friends and family in the UK. I’m not saying I don’t want to do it by all means, it’s just scary you know? And I know that my friends here in the UK support me, and that we’d still remain friends even if I’m on the other side of the world. It’s just sad in a sense...

    hi!

xaa-xaa was a rly nice discovery cause i had a friend who into a previous band, other than that mamireta, shishi, obligatory dimlim mention...what's been super cute is finding out that bands who i used to really enjoy seeing (kiryu, d=out, etc) are still kicking about. it's just been really nice and my boyfriends gotten super into babykingdom which is frankly adorable.

The song is cool, but it definitely does not need the length it has. The ‚musical message‘ comes across kind of sloppy that way, I don‘t feel a development, climax or break or anything that would ‚justify’ the length. The piano part, atmospheric part etc. are cool, the ‚freak out‘ parts are so much out of place and do not fit. Thats my first impression at least, will write here if my impression changes after more listens.

shit...i'm a bit worried that a best of is dropping soon after their full-length, and ofc with jaki leaving too... it's purple so maybe NAZUKI will start to compose going forward? trying to remain optimistic, but the fact that the release is so close to their tour final i'm not so sure.

I'm kinda amused by the fact they chose to finish this album chapter with... a song that doesn't sound anything like it lol. Yeah their first post-album singles never really sounded like they could fit the previous albums very well so it doesn't really surprises me. I wonder if they're still going to pursue this "proggier" direction (I'm not really talking about song lenghts, but you know, more detailed arrangements, more adventurous song structures, that kind of thing) considering TIW was kinda punkish and they probably feel done with that thing for a while? I won't lie I had dreams of a full-on prog album by them before lol You know, 5-6 songs, all really long

I like the single and all but god DAMN. It really feels like they're unable to write a >6min track without inserting the obligatory heavy ''btw we are a metal band u guys ; )" bit at the halfway point

Does this mean finally can get a good rip of 呪縛郷. Although a bit worrisome they're dropping a best of album around the same time their guitarist is departing the band

What are you listening to 2?

    I slept on Madeth a bit when I first got into visual kei eons ago, but when I was looking for new bands to listen to especially on finals week in college (a year ago I think), I turned on Madeth Gray'll and I enjoyed them a hell of a lot, especially this album and their last one before they disbanded. Now that I'm working a boring ass shitty job and am truly living the adult life ✌, their music is now reminiscent of my college days when I was studying while fucking around looking for new veekayz to listen to at the library...; w ;

God I hope I'm posting correctly. I'm terrible at introductions but here we go? Hello! My name is Ash, I've been into vk since 2003 and I like too many bands lol. I've known about this forum for a while but never really thought about making an account till now, decided to take the plunge to see if I could make friends/talk about bands. Also I'm always looking for new bands to get into so fire away with recommendations! Nice to meet y'all!

It's always great hearing aicle has fans ;; Oh man that's a good one!! Shidoro modoro is my jam tbh. Do you like yeti? It's emiru's "new" band, they're about to release something in a few days but it's nice that he kept doing music. His voice is so unique! Nothing wrong with taking a break/leaving for a bit! I was super into it but didn't know where to obtain things so it was mostly downloads/what coverage was available online or in anime mags until I was able to start going to lives. Was lucky that my local con got bands so I looked forward to seeing someone but that didn't start till 2009. I'll definitely check it out, I appreciate the recommendation! I heard they lost members recently?

    Honest opinions on K POP?

You're not wrong, but I do think that there's something to be said about Kpop being "different" and "special", but the difference doesn't lie in the music, it lies in the culture. The reason that VK fans can so easily transition to Kpop is that the fan cultures surrounding them are so very similar, despite the music being so different. On the inverse - take "Black" American pop music for example: Musically, "Black" American pop/r&b/rap is like the mother of Kpop, as it directly inspires Kpop and sets the trends and standards for a lot of Kpop, yet you don't see a gang of Kpop fans praising too many "black" artists. Now the music from these two scenes are VERY similar, so you'd think that Kpop fans would also be naturally interested in both (and to be fair, some are, but i don't see this to be the case in general). But the cultures surrounding both scenes are so different that you don't really see a lot of cross pollination between the fanbases, despite the music being so similar. So I do think that kpop fans genuinely enjoy the music, it's just that the music comes secondary to the culture. I think it's the culture that attracts most ppl first, and then the music is something people actually find enjoyable after. But not often the other way around. Now obviously there are ppl who are open-minded enough not to give a fuck about the cultures and will listen to anything that they like, but the impact of culture can actually be pretty profound, because culture often gives a context in which to perceive the music. And you'd be surprised how much context can influence one's taste. I've experienced this personally many times. It was like this for me when I got into J-rock. I grew up in "black" culture where rock music was mostly considered a "white" thing, and so we didn't fuck with it like that. I didn't really listen to rock music until after I got into J-rock. Because J-rock offered a different cultural path to rock music than the stereotypical American White culture that I associated it with at the time. But after developing a true affinity for rock, I was able to go back and appreciate the rock music that I previously avoided due to cultural boundaries/ignorance. So yeah, that's my thoughts on that. Culture affects our perception of things more than we realize. They say culture is to humans as water is to fish - so we can't always see what cultural perspective that we're operating from until after we've experienced other cultures, or until after we've swam in other waters, if you will. - But with that said, I personally think Kpop is a lot of fun. I don't listen to it or seek it out on my own, but whenever i'm exposed to it, it's always a joy. The visuals, the dances, the production - the general pomp of it all - it's all pretty exciting. So I see how ppl can enjoy it. For me, KPOP is like eating sweets tho. Like yeah, I enjoy them for sure, but too much and I'll get sick.

    Post your "UNPOPULAR" music opinions!

I mostly agree with this. But the exception is bp records; sliding down the volume switches on everything to not release shitty loudness war garbage would immediately make their records sound better.

    What are you reading?

Recently finished The Magus by John Fowles. Goddamn, the edition I read has to be one of the absolute worst printing jobs i've ever seen. Pages where the last letters of each word are cut off, random white spots in the middle of pages that make the letters unreadable, shitloads of intact typos, sentences where words are repeated ''like like this''... It's like they didn't bother proofreading the thing at all. Embarrassing. Novel itself was... alright. Couldn't get into it for the first hundred pages or so, then gradually began to warm up to it, then began to lose my interest in it again when the ending just kept dragging on

Hi. Hello. I'm just curious as to what you guys think of their latest release? I honestly think it's a bop and even Koichi's voice sounds pleasant(?). If anything, it kinda makes me look forward to their second album????
