What newer VK band interests you?

Haven't found a really 'unique' sounding VK band among the newer ones, they sound mostly same-ish to me, but that's okay cuz most of the older bands sounded same-ish too to a certain extent, in their own time (even tho I liked that 'sameyness' more than the current young generation, if that makes sense). That said, I'm enjoying Verxina, Rands, DIMLIM (if they count as newer) and to some extent Mamireta out of the more recent bunch of bands. Can't rationally describe why, it's just down to very little things, like the vocals in Verxina (cuz otherwise they are Basic New-Kei Band #2363) or the whole '90s throwback aesthetic and sound of Rands.

I really don't understand why you'd want Issei out. Sure he's a dick, but a competent dick. And as far as I know, no other member has shown any actual ability to write anything amazingly compelling to be able to pull what DIMLIM did with Retsu.

I'm worried about fractionalizing the community, the intent is good, but the oversaturation when it comes to options and places to be is one of the key reasons that it's so difficult to keep track of the scene these days, with all the different social media, the dozens of facebook groups, forums, chats, etc. The solution needs to be to make something which joins all the premier ventures together so that people have one source they can use, not create more distinct fora for people to divide themselves across. One forum (MH), one database (vk.gy) and one chat (preferably with many subchats where people can discuss various subtopics within J-Rock). And it would be good if they could all work in tandem and recommend each other exclusively so that we can have the best possible "complete" solution. Every new solution created where a fully good one already is in place just causes the effect described above. If that's your goal, then you're on the right track, but I think achieving cooperation is the best way forward.

    Favorite J-rock Guitar Solos!

Oh boy, I'm hyped up just searching for and re-listening to these. Here it goes. BOØWY - DRAMATIC? DRASTIC! ~ from 1:48-ish I love Hotei so much. This solo is very much him: fun, melodic, sprinkled with technique and memorability too. CLICK HERE to watch cuz embedding is disabled for this vid BOØWY - CLOUDY HEART ~ from 2:24-ish GodDAMMIT, I love Hotei SO much. One of his simpler ones, but DAT FEELING, MAN (couldn't find my fav performance but this will do). CLICK HERE to watch cuz embedding is disabled for this vid LUNA SEA - STORM ~ from 2:29-ish YOU. CAN. NOT. TELL. ME. THAT. THIS. IS. NOT. THE. BEST. BUCK-TICK - 細胞具ドリー:ソラミミ:PHANTOM ~ from 2:10-ish Imai is one of my top fave musicians but he's pretty shit at guitar solos and goes off on random tangents most of the time live after the first few bars (kinda feeling like "ok, let's get this over with" xD), but occasionally he does something unexpectedly hilarious/brilliant like here. The studio version of this solo is pretty meh but I love how he goes into the "Mary had a little lamb" melody here, which is especially clever seeing how the song is about cloning, cyborgs and questions of identity. BUCK-TICK - NATIONAL MEDIA BOYS ~ from 2:37-ish Again, a case of the live rendition of the solo being more random and fun (but the studio ver. is good too imo).

What newer VK band interests you?

I have noticed a lot of people talk about how all the new vk groups sound the same or are copying older groups, but no one ever talks about the unique or more interesting sounding new vk groups. What are your fav new vk groups? And I mean new as in they have only been around a couple years or less lol 😜 My favorite newer group is probably kizu, I think their concepts are interesting and I find them over all intriguing

A few more favorites: 88kasyo is known for sick guitar antics, but this have to be one THEIR best solos ever! You can tell Katzuya is just jamming out here, but it's still badass. 八十八ヶ所巡礼 - 惡闇霧島 (2:40 -ish) One of my favorite AYA songs...the solo here isn't anything outlandish, but the melody has always been super catchy and memorable to me. 亜矢 - 禁じられた歌 (3:20-ish) Another one of my favorite songs, this time by Tokyo Jihen. The solos during the outro/fade-out just completely pushed this song over the top for me! 東京事変 - 遭難 (2:24-ish)

    Favorite J-rock Guitar Solos!

hide - Dice This was my first hide song ever and this solo has always stuck with me. Versailles - Love from a Dead Orchestra This has always been my favorite Versailles song, and the solo has a lot to do with that. Perhaps a touch "noodley," but not enough to make it feel like just pure fast guitar wankery, and there is enough substance here that I find it incredibly memorable. Dir en grey - Cage I'll be the first one to admit that this one is over rated as heck...though perhaps not any more (do people even talk about early era diru anymore? lol). That said, it's still quite catchy and a bass solo still is something you hardly hear. When I thought of guitar solos in Jrock, this is one of the first ones that jumped in to my mind. NoGod - Guren Perhaps this would be in the "runner up" category for me in terms of solos, but I still enjoy this one a fair bit. It also reminds me of how much I miss early NoGod. I know I am missing one major one for myself here. When I first saw this thread, I knew exactly what song I needed to include. But for the love of god I can't remember what that song is anymore.

Yeah, I know. You'd think a thread like this already existed here, but somehow, it doesn't. (well, there was this old thread, but that's not exactly the same thing.) So yeah, what are some of your favorite guitar solos in J-rock? You know, those solos that are so damn soulful that they sucker punch you right in the feelz, those solos that absolutely melt your face off with their sheer technical prowess, or those solos that are just inexplicably memorable! Whatever the reason, what are some of the guitar solos that have spoken to YOU? .... A somewhat recent solo that's become a favorite of mine is in "PHANTOM" by lynch. It actually caught me off guard, since I wouldn't typically expect it from this band, but man, I found this one to be pretty powerful. It's very clean and traditional, but it's also very soulful. They definitely hit all the "right" notes, and for me, the solo is the apex of this song. Listening to this was what initially prompted me to search for a thread like this, and subsequently make this one. The solo starts at about 2:48. This is probably the most recent J-rock solo that's cemented itself in my head. Though I'll probably post more at a later date. What are some of your favorites? (also, please use spoilers if you add video)

Mhhh...I paid 40 euros for dir e grey, so I was suprised the gazette would charge such a price. I also didn't go see versailles because their tickets were 50 euros, and I thought that was a bit too expensive. So I'm not sure if I'm going to see the gazette for 60 euros, but I guess they'll be sold out anyways.

Hey guys! It's been quite a while since I posted here, and I hope people hear me out and read this whole thread. First I'll introduce myself, I'm known by some people here as Yasu, and I was a moderator quite some time ago, briefly, by the name of Yasupon. I wouldn't say I was the best moderator of all time, but I left a mark on the community during the time I was around due to my activity within the social aspect of the site (mostly within the minichat, last.fm, and tt.fm areas). I was probably well known for having written comments on every indie band on last.fm, but yeah enough about me. So as you all know, the visual kei scene is extremely niche; I can personally say that I've never met a single visual kei fan irl by pure chance. The reason I joined this forum many years ago on my former account was because I wanted to meet other visual kei fans, because of course, meeting them in person is almost impossible. I really enjoyed this forum, and for a while I was a minichat regular, as that was the best social outlet for me to make friends and express myself as a part of this community. We had many regulars whom would use the minichat actively, including myself, Biopanda, Haunted Jealousy, Senedjem, Zesshoku, CAT5, Furik, and plenty of others. So somewhere around 2013, drama struck me, and I left this community while I still held a moderator position. It was honestly ridiculous, and I don't want to talk about it because it was truly quite silly, but I left without a word (what an immature teen I was), and two years later I returned to see that the minichat was no longer what it had used to be. The minichat was barren, and it wasn't as active as before. Soon afterward, I discovered that MH actually had its own discord server, which had been started by OriginalSaku (whom I believe is still a moderator here?), however that discord group wasn't promoted very actively, and ultimately went inactive. I am writing this thread because one of my biggest passions in life is to make friends with other visual kei fans, and with the minichat being inactive for quite some time now, the discord group not really being a paramount cornerstone for the community, and no other discord groups filling the void that I sought after, I took it in my own hands to create what I had been so desperately looking for, so I did. I run a server which is currently called "J-Music Community" which is focused primarily on two things: visual kei, and social interaction. Our goal is to bring people together to discuss the music, and just have fun together. We have custom roles, custom colors, voice channels, a j-music and general radio, and many 'channels' for members to use as a means to discuss various topics of interest, and I would be extremely honored to have members of this community to join, and try us out. Our members are friendly, and most are quite mature. We currently have 175 members, and most of them joined only within the past week alone. I have been advertising very passionately all over the internet because that's how much I care about bringing visual kei fans together. If anyone would be willing to at least give us a shot, I'll supply the link right here: https://discordapp.com/invite/wE56xDx If this thread is considered advertising, then of course, I apologize. I intend to create conversation, so this is not solely about driving traffic to the server. A dialogue concerning visual kei fans and unifying them is the premise of this thread as well, because it appears that we're a very niche group, yet we're quite divided from my perspective, and it saddens me a bit. Last.fm has died down over the years, and other community websites dedicated to VK I feel have died down as well, so my goal has been to basically attempt to change that single-handedly to revolutionize things a bit.

Mixed feelings... this album is looong. Definitely carried by the vocals but I like their vibe. The deathcore tracks get intense and the poppier ones have surprisingly catchy choruses - 受難 in particular caught my attention on YouTube because of that after the initial impression that this was just another dark screamy band. It's nice to see another vocalist on the scene with solid gutturals and cleans though, a lot of the really intense metalcore-kei bands suffer from poor or repetitive cleans imo. (Highs are a little nasal though XD) Instrumentation is nice if a little messy composition-wise at times and with occasional unnecessary elements, but a very solid and surprisingly dense release for a new band, especially considering they managed to record a whole album's worth of songs just for a run of 250 copies. Just trying to get one for myself now, it's so damn expensive lol.

BROOOOOO!!!! I forgot all about this song! Definitely one of the best from the Gazette. I always liked Uruha and Aoi's sense of melody. I listened to the other solos you posted and I feel like I got a good sense of the solos that move you...they were mostly very clean-sounding and straightforward, but they seemed to convey a sense of nostalgia too, if that makes any sense! @Jigsaw9 - I never explored Hotei or BOOWY, but those are definitely cool. I'm especially liking the 2nd one. AND LMAO @ IMAI. I never knew that about him, yet somehow that just seems completely fitting. 🤣 @Ito - CAGE is iconic!

Ooh Ooh! Great Thread @CAT5! I fucking LOVE PHANTOM btw. We all know that the GazettE - バレッタ (Baretta) is one of the most OG solo works to ever exist lol (Solo starts at 3:11) but to name a few favorites: 蜉蝣 (Kagerou) - 腐った海で溺れかけている僕を救ってくれた君 (Kusatta Umi de Oborekakateiru Boku wo Sukutte Kureta Kimi) (Solo starts at 2:49) ayabie - 桜舞う季節に (Sakura Mau Kisetsu Ni) (Solo starts at 2:35) and surprisingly, An Café (but at that time they were known as アンティック-珈琲店 (Antic Café)) - Aurora (Solo starts at 2:19) and I gotta throw in my own fave from lynch. with their song "Fallen" (Solo starts at 1:43)

You know, the album is nowhere the trainwreck I was expecting! Those are just my impressions from a first listen. Let me start with the biggest problem: Mio's singing. He is trying WAY TOO HARD to sing in a range he doesn't have. He is indeed a very good screamer (he's way better than Sho when he started out, he doesn't overabuse inhales and is overall more versatile) but for now his clean voice is making me have a harder time enjoying the music. Maybe he can go under an impressive improvement like Sho did, but who knows? While there is recently a whole wave of VK bands that put A WHOLE LOT of emphasis on musicianship sometimes to the expense of songwriting, I feel like the musicianship is not only capable but also used in a way it doesn't try to compensate for bad songwriting (different to something like Jiluka's lastest album which is nearly unlistenable). Despite the over-triggered drum sound that doesn't make him much favor, Issei is indeed a good drummer and way more capable than the repetitive machine gun double bass blasting I've heard in a lot of his stuff would indicate. The bass-heavy production renders the music a bit messy, and it doesn't help that their sound is very layered (with lots of guitar leads, vocal harmonies, orchestral and electronic instrumentation), so the mix is kinda muddy (I had wishes of DeG going for 8-strings before but this album reminded me that with their awful production values of late, the music would sound like a total mess). The songwriting is all over the place (there are proggy pieces, the all-out aggressive stuff in line with the promotional singles, synth-heavy "anthemic" live-oriented stuff, ballads here and there) pretty much like early Dimlim, but I consider it to be a slight improvement over something like Various (sorry, but I really dislike it). One of the biggest complains is the abundance of synth sounds that a lot of times subtract more than add to the song (not to mention how they clutter the mix even further). Couldn't care less about the anime ED ballads though and the unabashedly "live-oriented" songs with all the gang vocals and call-and-response bits don't do much for me either. My favorite tracks were "Judas" (which sadly suffers from some of the worst vocals of the album), "unknown" and "Blink".
