    Vidoll

Vidoll was probably my all-time favourite back in the day. I own most of their discography and was obsessed since their early days. I enjoyed the Ayano-era the best and played their I My Ai Mai PV over and over. Rame's prominent basslines had me hooked. Boku Boku is a gem and Face Mayura, Face Pisaroto, If...Rebotomin and If...Torikabuto are still some of my most prized CDs. Although I lost interest after their major debut, I still followed and liked some songs here and there. Bastard was a solid effort, but I mostly liked the b-sides from their singles, like Red cube, Gaga Syrup, and Berry Jam Cleaner.

    01. Sepia - 1st official release on his live-limited single "Dinner of the Slit Mouth" on 2016.06.06. 02. Tragedy Night of Restraint - This song was shown in his live on 2016.12.22. 03. S - 1st official release on his Demo "Kuro Namida de… Shuumaku wo…" on 2010.06.05. 04. a decomposed body - If I remember correctly, it was shown in a secret live in 2014. (If someone has more information I would like to hear it.) 05. (bonus track) - Regarding the date that appears on the CD (2008) could be some Lu: natic song, which appears on his CD "楽園歌 2007~2008 THE WORST" (DIE PAST DIE, Seishin Yokkyuu Fuantei, among other. And some that does not appear on that album and were composed by Kijin in that project - CD : 事実からハ・・・逃レらレなィ・・・コノ楽園歌で・・・(2008) and 生命ノ・・・青ィ糸が・・・(2008)) Btw, I love that he throws something new every time they give a concert ^^

Ru:Natic will be distributing a new mini-album at this upcoming live, entitled "Welcome to the RU:NATIC family." It contains 4 tracks, plus a bonus track that Kijin confirmed was also an old song. From the looks of it, these are most likely rerecordings of old songs (track 2, I think, was on one of their 2016 revival singles (not sure which...), and track 4 was on their YT channel a while back but wasn't released afaik). The track list is: 01. Sepia 02. Tragedy Night of Restraint 03. S 04. a decomposed body 05. (bonus track)

I think the only post-INNOCENT TEENS song that stuck with me was Puzzle ring unfortunately. I do need to go back and check their later b-sides though, as I'm really enjoying Red card! They had so much great songs early on, geez. The Mayura and Pisaroto minis alone are better than the discographies of most bands around these days. I used to watch this DVD and the 浪漫告白 one all the time back then. Jui's vocals during 透明ナカゴ >>>>

Getting in on this hype so I can actually remember what came out this year and be persuaded to listen to more shit in the process yas. For now it's only the name of the release with a short description. New categories, scores and dates being added in the future.

Good shit and stoked for future releases. Genuinely old school sound unlike most of these bands just playing nu-metal and deg songs in frilly clothes and hair. I think improvements could be made with some production choices/limitations and with Karma's performance, but considering that it's a band of nobodies with most likely zero budget in the dog eat dog host world of vk in 2019, it's fucking great and not for poseurs

Well sorry for the off-topic XD i follow kiryu for 10 years now and i've never heard about that. - The little mahiro thing: he's literally a little. he's super small. - The kun thing: He's younger than the other members so it's normal that they call him kun. What I'm saying is that he's not THAT younger. They are all 3X - The family thing also means nothing actually. They may compare Mahiro to a child because he's super selfish and the members take care of him all the time because of his health If he was actually 28 he would be starting his first band at 12 hahahahah no way. If you look for the info that you're saying in Japanese, there's nothing about that as well. Also, if you see him in person you can see that he looks old as the other members. He IS some years younger than the others, but not THAT younger haha. I'd say that he's around 33 while Takemasa and Mitsuki are 36 So yeah, you was deceived hah

    cali≠gari

tbh i missed on quite a few cali gari releases, including 13 (guess i have to catch up now), as i didn't listen to vkei much for past few years. notable part of my excitement about 14 is coming from joy of reunion with the band i used to love 〜 so my opinion is relatively biased. i liked 3-6 and the last 3 tracks, and i rarely like more then 4-5 tracks from a full-length album. 死は眠りを散歩する is interesting indeed. i love that while sticking to their unique sound one can never mistake for anything else they keep experimenting. and i was so surprised when heard 拝啓=BGM’s first seconds, that song surely gives off some future funk/vaporwave vibes. so yeah great album and i’m happy they keep working successfully after Makoto departed (although it’s a shame).

    Why all the hearing problems?

there's another angle to why this is reported so often in public (as opposed to the Japanese habit of shunning issues - i.e. in visual kei you'll have apparent suicides disguised as accidents or death/retirement issues never explained in public because the members themselves live relatively private lives) - the bands you're pretty much posting on here exclusively have disturbed, creepy male fans; "hearing issues" is a respectable opt-out of a toxic scene that doesn't seem really removed from general idol mess that literally came through this week again: https://www.billboard.com/articles/news/international/8493058/j-pop-girl-group-ngt48-apologizes-discussing-assault-yamaguchi-maho I don't think ramen-fed mouthbreathers have a normal human response to their metal-waifus wanting to have kids and healthy families.

Yeah this is really good. I think the production is more on point than other recent kotokei bands. That guitar tone and the bass is really great how they mix in and out of each other. Good start to 2019.

    cali≠gari

cali≠gari cali≠gari began activities in 1993 helmed by guitarist Sakurai Ao, bringing a mixture of post-punk, art rock and new wave into visual kei. Named after the 1920 German expressionist horror movie "Das Cabinet des Dr. Caligari", they are considered as one of the early 'eroguro' bands. They started releasing music in 1994 and after various lineup changes (most notably replacing their vocalist Shuuji for another vocalist named Shuuji) their major label debut finally came in 2002... only for them to go on hiatus a year later. The band restarted activities in 2009 and started playing gigs and releasing new music again. In the past few years they had short pauses, but are more or less active. After coming back from hiatus they released a string of albums through major labels while also maintining their own indies label Misshitsu Neurose (headed by Ao) for special interim releases. As of the release of their album "14" they have unexpectedly gone back to being an indies band. The cali≠gari guys have various side-projects and other bands, too, running simultaneously. Most recently Shuuji has GOATBED, Ao plays in ヘクトウ (Hector) and sporadically performs with LAB. THE BASEMENT (f.k.a. lab.), and Kenjirou has had an on-again off-again solo career. Shuuji, Ao, Kenjirou and Makoto also used to have a visual kei parody alterego band called La' royque de zavy. (Takei Makoto): drums 1999-2014 I know there are other Garists here, so I thought I'd make an artist thread finally to discuss random stuff. For one, I was completely surprised that the band went back to being indies full-time. Apparently this sudden change was the reason for the delays with the production of the latest album (there are more details in this interview). Well, it shouldn't make that much of a difference I guess since they already released almost everything through Misshitsu Neurose except for the albums and DVDs, but still... Anyway, how are you guys liking the new album? I'm hooked on it, although I feel it isn't as great as "13" was. There is some really cool stuff going on in tracks 1-6, but then the excitement kinda dips for me. The last 2 tracks are okay again. Especially the last one is interesting imo, I don't think I've heard this type of song from cali≠gari before (the atmosphere almost reminds me a bit of BUCK-TICK). Also, random trivia: apparently the short song "飛燕騒曲" is only comprised of various samples and ambient noises, only the bass guitar is played 'live' (even the guitar parts are sampled from another song on the album). Thought that was fun.

    2019 Japanese Music Ratings

This topic is starting to feel like a MH tradition now I think haha. But anyways.... This thread is dedicated to Japanese releases in 2019 that the MH Community will listen to and would like to keep track of throughout the entire year. It’s a nice way of referring back to a list, should you forget if you’ve listened to a certain release yet or not. I know I forget sometimes haha. These ratings can also help those who may want to see which releases are favoring well or not, based on each individual user who you may have similar tastes with. Feel free to set up your own rating system (Stars, ?/5, ?/10, Best to Worst, Oooh to Eww, etc.), but try and use spoiler tags to save room in your post, and save room on the page for the other members’ rating lists. Keep this list in mind in the event that we, the MH staff, host a JRock Awards at the end of the year . Last Year's for reference: 2018 Looking forward to seeing everyone’s lists at the end of the year! Yuyo’s List for 2019:

    Vidoll

Ugh, so many great sections in this song. It just keeps giving, like finding a treasure every minute or so lol I love Vidoll so much, but have to admit I need to give their near major/post major stuff a little more attention. Another one of my favorites is Mayura Pisaroto. I love the pace of this song and as usual, Rame is healing me with that bassline (also I think there's an album version that sounds a little different to this one?)

I listened to Dir En Grey's newest album last night. And I am thoroughly impressed by it. It was really a wonderful album to listen to, and reminded me of a lot of their older music. I didn't like their "Westernized" albums as much as their old stuff, so I am very pleased that they've gone back to their roots. I may even purchase the album since I liked it that much. Definitely a good album to check out.

i haven't had a chance to listen to 14 yet, but i just wanna go ahead and say that regardless of anything, these guys are in my top 5 favorite japanese bands of all time, probably even in my top 5 favorite bands of all time in general. One of the most creative and varied bands in the VK scene for sure. Is anything known about bands/artists that have been very influential for the members? I'd be somewhat curious to know

Hopefully I can keep it up for this year, but I surely won't listen to many bands, but here is what I listen too. Kousai Ravel - Mousou Rabbit (I still think that the vocalist isn't a good vocalist, but musically they are alright) i.D.A - 神話双星記 (I prefer i.D.A above NETH) NETH PRIER CAIN - 神話双星記 蘭図 (Rands) - Inferiority Complex & Narcissism It's listenable, nothing special, lot's of looping melody, it's smooth, that's all, but 100% not a WOW thing.
