    Vior gloire - Gloomy and wakeful night

    After THE BLACK SWAN disbanded in May he has only done random session appearances, if I understand it correctly. However, he recently tweeted that he'll do lots of music stuff in 2019, so who knows, maybe he'll start/join a full-time band again.

    Agree with you there Listening to these oldie songs are so absolutely amazing. So much of my memories of old Japanese songs come from old animes like Evangelion with its opening song, "Cruel Angel's Thesis", sung by Yoko Takahashi and, of course, Moonlight Densetsu (Sailormoon). This showed up in my Youtube feed one day and I've loved her music ever since. Also, it's a little late for the season, but she sang a popular Christmas song still played in Japan today. This was used for Rurouni Kenshin, but I think the upbeat, jazzy tune make it a great song to listen to. (Rurouni Kenshin had lots of memorable and amazing artists sing for the anime, including T.M. Revolution with his "Heart of Sword" song. Judy and Mary is another group who sang the song, Sobakasu, for the series. You should definitely check them out.) And this song was used in Yu Yu Hakusho. Great song Also, Namie Amuro is a 90's artist I was first introduced through from the anime, Inuyasha, with her song, "Come." I like her other songs as well. One of them is this song... Another 90's artist I like is Aikawa Nanase. Here is one of her songs. And there's lots more including Do as Infinity and Every Little Thing. These two artist also have some great songs as well. (I was introduced to them through Inuyasha as well, lol.) Most of them are from animes, but it was how I got introduced to these cool musicians ^^;

    I've been feeling like living in a dull age,and music is one of the few things that keeps my days a little bit more enjoyable. So,few days ago i decided to listen something different and randomly i ended up playing some 90's best album from T.M Revolution and i absolutely loved the atmosphere. It just felt nostalgic, like when i was a kid watching some animes with those catchy songs (good times) So i thought: why not diving into this kind of music? i mean...i don't know nothing about the japanese music out of visual kei, and think the old stuff is a good place to start and also the most interesting part: here's some things i started listening these days

    Chances are they're also dubbing guitar tracks at their lives too. I haven't watched the live performance yet; but having only one guitarist means some of the guitar harmonies they do in the studio can't be replicated without guitar backing tracks. That's a bit discouraging. Sometimes it feels like this band has a little too much polish; but their sound is on the right track. EDIT: yep, they're using guitar backing tracks too. gross.

    Drummer's head w/ that handprint looks like that ball from "Cast Away". (Yes, I do know the whole "hand over mouth" thing is supposed to symbolize censorship and/or suffocation. He just looks very "spherical", lol) I wonder which bands the members are from 🤔.

    Oshare of the 2000's

    Remember when back in the proverbial day oshare kei was considered by some circles as the uttermost depths of shit this scene ever delved into. If you were a frustrated male between the ages of 12 to 18 in 2005 to 2010 and enjoyed Dir en grey on more than a few occasions, such as myself, then you surely took part in this folly. Well now in retrospect I think anyone with a lick of sense has realised that we've rarely had it better. The best bands of the oshare bunch carried the torch of florid guitar noodling, big colorful outfits and nasally eccentric vocalists into their new ventures, all the while the rest of the scene was playing catch-up in black 50 dollar suit jackets with Dir en grey's angryman vocalist and nu metal stylings. Oshare's debt to older visual kei I think is often unjustly disregarded and the style largely considered as the scene jumping the shark, when I think this couldn't be further from the truth. That moment when all the Unsraw's in the world were stinking up the place, there existed a scene where one could Image an alternative reality where Japan had shut its borders in 1999 and the bandmen had to make due with their old Luna Sea and Kuroyume records. A good cutoff point for this fad I'd say could be Royz' debut ( prophetically named as "the new age". ) That kind of bijuaru did definitely exist prior to that, but I still consider it an important turning point from whence we've really hit the shits in way I'm not entirely sure we'll ever recover from. I confess immediately that I'm definitely not an expert, but I know for a fact there are people on this forum who are. Some bands that were formed prior to this date, but continued after 2011, will surely apply in this topic such as Cindykate. I'd say the range is broad enough to include bands like early Dolly as well, though suppose someone could dispute that. Please post and link away ( and save this thread from bombing ) because even at its very worst, this shit was at least infinitely more entertaining than all that new royzcore shite. Going to kick things off by posting some entry-level stuff Irokui never got shit in my opinion, which is quite a marvel. Stayed very consistent and their musical trajectory I thought was very logical for them, and it brought us classic tracks like Sakura Seven Their early output was so sexy. Essential of the rainbow vomit bands that got progressively more domesticated as they went along. Incredible from the first release until the que:sera single. They musically progressed and amassed fortunes for fancier recording equipment at a blazing speed that made me very optimistic about their future. Then the very moment they had chiseled their musicianship to almost Kiryu levels controlled chaos, they dun fuck it up with some menbas leaving and Emoro blowing his indie rock wad all over the final couple releases. Still I suppose not even at their last breaths, they never sucked. Early Paradeis needs to be linked, not only because of what a shellacking it got on this board, but because they were unironically pretty good. If you don't like the vocalist, then you have no business listening to vk in the first place. This is merely a scratch on the surface. There are tons and tons more to choose from like the earliest attempts at the style like Vinett, the more "acquired taste" like Dragonwappppper, left field like doginthepwo and the entire baroque influenced strand.

    i second that. tbh i think that technically their overall performance is far from perfect yet, even though musicians are skilled (that bassist tho! yue kills me). i doubt they will add a member, i can't remember such cases in vk... anyway i hope they will improve as they are young and promising. emotionally their performance seems to be top-notch.

    My huge favorite from the '80s is BOØWY who were total pop-rock perfection imo (but I am a rabid stan so...). They formed in 1981 with their first recording lineup being a 6-piece (complete with saxophonist), but their most long-lasting and most known material is from their glory days as a 4-member band. They toured their asses off, released a handful of albums and called it quits in 1988, by the time they were one of the biggest rock acts in Japan, later inspiring youngsters in the early '90s to start their own bands (a.k.a. the "band boom" in Japan). Kyosuke Himuro is an explosive frontman with just the most awesome voice, and together with guitarist Tomoyasu Hotei they composed songs that were compact, streamlined, catchy yet creative. Tsunematsu Matsui is the stone-faced bass powerhouse and Makoto Takahashi is his smiley and energetic drummer counterpart, completing the rhythm section "Yin and Yang" (ok, this sounds kinda corny, but rly just watch them perform, they're total opposites in terms of stage presence but both awesome). Here are some cool vids, hopefully they stay up (BOØWY's YT videos tend to get taken down fairly regularly): "MARIONETTE" music video with animation produced by Gainax "PLASTIC BOMB" live version from their 1987 Christmas gig "NO. NEW YORK" awesome live version from their 2-day last live at Tokyo Dome

    This is my main complaint about the DVD as well, the performance is good enough to stand on it's own, they don't need the backing tracks on the vocals to make it sound like the studio recordings. It might be my only complaint about it though, exceptional show otherwise. That and that they should get a second guitarist so they can drop the guitar backing tracks as well. But it might be difficult to find one that's a good fit, who knows.

    Finally watched the full PV. I wasn't impressed by AvelCain at the time, but this is quite nice! I dig the old-schoolish sound, we need more of bands like this. Karma's voice is something I have to get used to (sounding like a 15 y.o. who just broke down sobbing while he learnt that he's not getting the award for the Kiyoharu Pageant 2019), but I see no problems here. Gonna keep an eye out for these guys.

    I just listened to サイコ at Tatsuro’s radio program and DUDE I am blown away. It’s a song that matches very well their concept photos. It sounds like how the pictures look, if that makes sense. I can’t wait to listen to the whole album and cry. That’s it from me *mic drop*

    Retsu probably just got tired of dealing with Issei’s train wreck songwriting.
  35. 1 point
    I think this Jin thing is simply a matter of talent. He just can't come up with something truly memorable. Sho (DIMLIM) for example, he's not even half a decade in the scene, and each track so far had a chorus to die for.

    Even the fans of avelcain know he can’t sing and the band can’t play. I don’t like the song but it gave me this huge nostalgia feeling, It feels like I’m in 2001 trading songs with some Japanese gal in WinMx and My precious rarez got scammed with some unknown 90s indie bands. I think karma pretty successfully capture that 90s vkei generics sound.

    0.1g no Gosan x Mathilda drama

                                    x Hey guys. Since yesterday most of the bangyas are commenting about the 0.1g no Gosan x Mathilda drama. I don't know if rumors section is the right place to post it, since it's not a RUMOR, but i don't know anywhere else to do it lol I think many of you know that 0.1g no Gosan is a very polemic band. Their vocalist, Midorigawa Yuu is always chasing fans who are not doing the furi, or saying bad stuff about other bands. For example, he said to the fans don't go to shitty bands like Vexent., said POIDOL is a shitty band with a ghost-writer and also made fun of DOGinPWO (their senpais tho........). On June 28th 0.1g held a event where they intended to play with "minor" bands. One of these bands was Mathilda, a new band that just started their activities. What no one was expecting was that the vocalist Kuu would enter the stage holding a 0.1g no Gosan picture*. Then he smashed it and ATE it all. The fans were surprised and some of them scream in panic. But okay, the concert was over and no one said anything about that.......until yesterday. On yesterday's concert 0.1g vocalist stopped their song to talk about Mathilda. He said how pissed of he was for such shitty band smash their flyer (*actually it was not a flyer. it was a colorful print that Mathilda vocalist made by his own, so...) and said that if any of the 0.1g fans go to a Mathilda concert, the whole band would hate this fan forever, and don't talk to them on instore events and such anymore. In the end, he made all the fans scream "MATHILDA DIE!!!!!". If you look for opinions about that on twitter, it's very divided. But indeed, 0.1g is losing a lot of fans for their posture. In my opinion, first of all, who he think he's to say which bands the fans should go or not? "I WON'T TALK TO YOU ON INSTORES ANYMORE!!!1111" bitch how old are you? 7? the fans are PAYING MONEY for that. It's so stupid. Also, as mentioned, Mathilda didn't use a flyer that 0.1g useid their money to make. And is it THAT offensive? Mathilda vocalist is always eating stuff on their concerts, pizza, apples, and stuff because it's their concept. They choose 0.1g no Gosan picture fot that because IT WAS 0.1g EVENT. It was just a fuck'n performance. Can we also mention how problematic is to make your fans scream to SOMEONE TO DIE? Like......Jesus........ In my opinion the fans are also stupid tho. It's very funny that he's so pissed of, but he's always doing worse stuff to other bands.... So when it's with you you can't take it? HAHAHA I'm really rooting for Mathilda now and i hope they smash and eat Midorigawa next time lol What you guys opinion about that? #MathildaTeam

    Also in regards to AN CAFE, I don't say this too often, but their first full-lenght (色彩モーメント) was GREAT. I'm not sure how it holds up these days (haven't listened to it in forever), but I freaking loved it back then. マグニャカルタ also had some pretty cool tunes (mostly the singles, but still - スマイル一番 イイ♀ is a gem).
