My Halloween was pretty disappointing...had a lot of severe weather and tornado type stuff in the vicinity so only got to wear my costume an hour tops. (Well I like the severe weather...but not on Halloween come on!)

genuinely surprised that so few VK bands have latched on to vaporwave/synthwave aesthetics tbh

The more I dig into classic vk and pre-vk bands, the more I understand that vk is actually a scene with 3 decent artists out of 17 copy-cats. The sound, lyrics, visuals and overall aesthetics haven't really evolved in the almost 30 years it has existing. The idolized system that is actually the managment strategy of the 95% of the bands born in the last 10 years moreless came out really not surprising. Tbh, this makes me really, really upset, and seeing bands like Mamireta, Mathilda or Londboy being claimed as the cool novelty makes me want to die instead.

Yeah, the Epocalipse stuff sounded like a band on the album, but Satsuki doesn’t tour with a band. So what was the point if he just ended up performing on stage by himself with the music being a backing track? Comparing the Beatles and Rolling Stones to Satsuki though. Interesting. All I say is if you think those bands never had changes in direction, you’ve never actually listened to them.

Latest band from cool guy Eiji (ex. マカロニ, 秘密結社コドモA, DENTAKU etc.) will be releasing a seven track mini album on 12/26/18. Tracks #2 and #5 are covers from previous Eiji bands (DENTAKU and 秘密結社コドモA respectively ). These guys were great during the recent Matina event, so I am really hyped for this release!

    * I edited my previous post and made a more clear description in this new post about storage options and sizes. ******** Storage options ********** I am thinking whether to put them in ring binders (+ plastic protectors with holes) or in clear pocket binders. In case you want to order them by yourself or through a Japanese friend: The person writing in this blog explains that you can either buy them at the 100 yen store or at Kokuyo or Muji (stationary stores). He says in Kokuyo and Muji they call that size 「A4ワイド」. This is a Kokuyo A4 wide size clear pocket binder. I don't know if they have ticker ones, as this one has just 20 pockets. He/she recommends buying the higher quality ones at Kokuyo or Muji rather than at the 100 store. You can also get them at Yodobashi Camera, Amazon.co.jp, Tokyu Hands, Loft or other places with a big stationary section. I personally find it more comfortable to use ring binders because you can change the papers order, add more or remove them but I like clear pocket binders more aesthetically speaking. You can buy different binder sizes for each paper size you have or buy the biggest size (A4変 and put all papers together no matter the size). Maybe it's easier that way. ********** Brands ************ I really like this stationary brand called Kikuyo because they have nice designs and good quality. They have a system called Novita which enlengthens the binder if you put more papers and if you have less papers the spine gets narrower. They don't seem to make Novita clear file binders for A4変 though, but you can get them for other sizes... * I don't get sponsored if you are wondering * Website: https://www.kokuyo-st.co.jp/stationery/clearbook/novita/ Amazon: https://www.amazon.co.jp/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_1?__mk_ja_JP=カタカナ&url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=クリアファイル+ノビータ&rh=i%3Aaps%2Ck%3Aクリアファイル+ノビータ For archive quality clear files you can buy Maruman: I haven't seen it being sold in Europe but it's a Germany brand... https://www.amazon.co.jp/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?__mk_ja_JP=カタカナ&url=search-alias%3Doffice-products&field-keywords=maruman+++クリアファイル&rh=n%3A86731051%2Ck%3Amaruman+++クリアファイル *********** Paper Sizes ********** In Japan paper sizes are very clearly predetermined and classified and all magazines (most) of the same sort use the same size, as well with books, doujinshi, manga... Making it easier for people to store things (whether it be in binders, boxes or shelves). I have observed books and manga there have a few assorted sizes while here every publisher makes the magazine, book or comic in the size he wants... *_* More info on paper sizes in the West and Japan: https://www.kokuyo-st.co.jp/stationery/product_list/clearbook/index.html https://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/判型 / English version (different info) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Book_size https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paper_size

    Vexent new album "CHAIN" release

None of the songs are original. Well, even if it were new songs, they still wouldn't be "original".

I wished they had released a full or mini album already, instead of these "complicated" consecutive releases. They could be just one more boring menhera kei out there, but the heaviness and tight production ,plus the vocalist's MUCC-y voice keeps these guys pretty interesting. (already miles away from the modern R-shitei,imo).

"Koufoku Ron" isn't that bad but it's kind of the underwhelming early Dimlim sound that doesn't really take me anywhere. The vocalists screams need a bit more of polishing but I really like his style (his high ass squealing sounds way cleaner than Sho's - kinda like Hinata from Ligro and the way he mixes inhales and exhales is pretty cool). The cleans were pretty bad though. "Adolfism" doesn't sound good at all and couldn't have a cringier songtitle. The final shriek was really cool though I still think the best thing that Issei ever did was leave Dimlim.

This was spoken about at length in the Dir en grey topic. IIRC, Phenomenon was actually the second or third time they walked off-stage. Kyo was fucking incensed. Who knows what happened backstage. It was really disappointing, of course. We weren't told anything whatsoever and had to wait for probably an hour in total between songs. The venue hardly handed out any water, so at the front, we were all dead from the crush and heat. At the end of it all, it was all worth it. The band were clearly mortified by what happened, and played an improvised set with no backing tracks. Really raw performance, full of energy. None of them were standing around looking bored as usual. It was great. They really put everything into the show. I'd say it was possibly the most lively I've seen them play in years. It would have been the best show I'd personally attended if it weren't for the technical difficulties. I actually wonder if this will show up on a documentary DVD.

They're not bad. Not sure if I necessarily like those songs but they do have some good moments. Maybe with a few more listens I'd get more into them. Still curiously looking forward to the full album though.

Feels like issei just couldn't help restarting from where he left off. The similarly with DIMLIM must be accepted,i guess Furthermore,I think it's unfair throwing too much high expectations on the vocalist, he still fresh to the scene, and that MV was a decent beginning for him

    2018 Japanese Music Ratings

After the first two months of 2019 passed, I decided to stop updating this list because every day I discovered a new 2018 album that I didn't hear before, on time. I decided to close this post as it is. 2018 was the year I've heard more music through all of my life. A huge lot of great album releases, from big and well known artists such as DEG, Kyary, KAMIJO, The GazettE, to new, indie, underground artists to me, such as Haru Nemuri, More, Klan Ailee, SWARRRM. Definitely one of the best years in Japanese music. I'm so glad 2018 was full of amazing albums because music is a great part of my life. Cheers for a 2019 full of great music as well. BTW, fuck XA-VAT and their "we're way too underground to release K-I-S in-store or digitally". We were excited to listen their return . 2018 releases rating Waiting list

I've been playing Fallout: New Vegas recently. I'm usually more of a turn-based RPG/strategy person, but I actually played a few minutes of it as part of a psychology study in university, and I've always kind of wanted to give it a shot since I'm a sucker for post-apocalyptic stuff. The VATS system is a huge selling point for me, since I'm not great at shooting and my reflexes suck. Makes it almost feel like playing a grosser, more active version of Fire Emblem sometimes. I really like the soundtrack too. Which is rare for me, since I usually mute the sound when I'm playing video games.

    Dark/mature/adult-themed anime

I saw it mentioned before, but I second Wolf's Rain. I saw this anime when I was young and it flew right over my head. Seeing it more recently, I thoroughly enjoyed it. The music was beautiful (composed by Yoko Kanno) and the story was captivating to watch unfold despite the ending. The color and scenery is dark, dank, and dismal, which perfectly fit with a world in despair. The show left with lots to ponder about, and I loved seeing the characters realistically develop without being too cheesy or cliche. The anime is far from a rosy, happy series, but it's one worth watching at least once. I saw others mention Death Note, and I agree. Despite its popularity among the younger crowd, I believe the series manages to digs deep into human psyche and examines some very dark themes encapsulated within the term, 'justice'. I saw the Ghost in the Shell movie mentioned earlier. I also think the series, Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, is good as well. It's not the exact same as the movie, but it has its own merits as well. It explores, more than once, what it means to be a human in a world where cybernetics and robotics become more prevalent. The series lacked characterization for many of the teammates on Sector 9, but the script was well-written and it wasn't a typical fighting/action series with tons of blood and gore everywhere. But when the fighting happened, it was exciting to watch.
