    DuelJewel to Resume Activities

http://dueljewel.jp/pc/zepp.html Duel Jewel announced their return live on March 1st, 2019, at Zepp Tokyo. Hayato has apparently made a full recovery from the variety of conditions (functional dysphonia, vocal dystonia, vocal yips) that caused them to disband.

I can't believe October is already here, and the event coming this Friday... I feel like just yesterday I was posting about the project lol. I've got everything done now, I never posted the color of the above, also recently finished Carnage oil painting...felt very rushed because the deadline changed. Think PS stuffed up the bg color I'll have to fix it. Venom colored I'm glad to be done but it's not very exciting since it's not personal work.

Nightmare/ナイトメア may have gotten a lot of their popularity from Death Note but they deserve their place among the best visual kei bands of all time imo. Love this band! 😍

    Kisaki Drama 2k18

(Thank you to @ricchubunny for posting about this in a status, which led to @Chi linking it to me!) An account on Twitter, @KISAKI54175241, has begun to make some fairly serious claims against Kisaki, so here we are in the rumors section yet again. At the time of this posting the account has 66 tweets and multiple images. I saved an archive of the page at it is at this moment in case anything happens to it, so please let me know and I will post that somewhere. Disclaimer: What follows is a translation of allegations made by twitter user KISAKI54175241. I neither endorse nor deny any of the claims made below, and I made a conscious effort to avoid sensationalizing anything in my translations... If you have any questions or feedback in that regard please let me know. More importantly some of the content below is disturbing. There are mentions of domestic violence and child sexual abuse. Please read at your own discretion or skip to the summary below if you would like to know what happened without getting into explicit detail. KISAKI54175241's posts (oldest to newest, although sometimes self-retweets that reordered her twitter timeline will cause discrepancies) The translation as the account stands at 2:28 PM -6:00 GMT is complete. This picture provided by @colorfuljinsei (originally from Kisaki's official twitter?) can serve as a tattoo placement/design reference if you would like to do any comparisons. In summary, Kisaki has been accused of: -Inappropriate sexual contact with a young child -Domestic violence -Being a habitual benzo seeker/user -Being suicidal and using this as a manipulation tactic -Astroturfing tanuki, working to have critical articles and twitters suspended Allegedly, these matters have been brought to police.

Looked it up and apparently Mahiro's suffering from an (incurable) condition called retinitis pigmentosa... Yeah, that does sound like bad stuff. At the same time, it would -technically- not be impossible to continue performing even when blind / nearly blind... but i feel like that definitely wouldn't do his health any favors. I'm honestly kind of surprised D haven't called it quits yet, by the way. How are they doing popularity-wise in Japan? kink shaming in yr position is mod abuse btw @suji :^)

Gut feelings here. I'm also going for smaller bands, b/c bands in more prominent labels tend to just "stick around", even if it's their animated corpses. Hence, why Royz, Dog, and Blu-Billion are are still kicking =P (jk, they're all still popular, I've just lost interest, personally) A member-loss or extended hiatus is usually a shot at the Achilles' heel for those type of bands. Colors indicate confidence levels (+=red). I predict ラミヤ (Lamiya) will disband at the latter end of next year b/c while I like them, their sound is largely underappreciated as they lack a certain "intensity". Awake will finally disband some time next year b/c that dead horse they're beating has nearly decomposed. They tried going "major" and ended up losing members & popularity in the process. LOVE LOCK is bound for disbandment (perhaps in the near-future). I really enjoy them being around, especially Shibuya, but they're losing steam. アルファリア (Alphalia) b/c they're the least impressive on Planet Child's roster. I'm scared to say this, but I think ABOO might be short-lived. Soundcloud rappers have better promotion than these guys right now, I bet there are fans of DOWNER/ダウナー that still have no idea that they exist. I'm giving グラビティ(Gravity) a year-and-a-half. Their songs are fun, but their title tracks are all anthemic and lyrically "meh".

Wait what's all this about Mahiro's medical condition again? I'm feeling like Mamireta will bite the dust within the next year or two most likely. Don't really see them lasting much longer than they have now, feels like they're kinda running dry already.

I am gonna give it 4 out of 5 pineapples. The redone tracks feels so redundant to me. They didn't really ruin it but they didn't actually amped it up either. 4 for replayable value. I'd listen to it exclusively for this next few weeks if only I don't listen to Kero Kero Bonito in the same time.

I already posted it in the news forum, but since the new album is now out and streamable on Spotify I am really curious what everyone thinks. In my opinion this is just stellar, both as a metal album and as a visual kei album. All bias aside, probably my favorite album of the year. So I will definitely write a detailed review later on. BTW the Japanese edition "無意識の意識化" will be released later this month through the same label that mamireta and KRAD are currently in. I already saw it for preorder in Like an Edison and CDJapan and curiously all the titles have been translated to Japanese...

yall have no taste when it comes to looks smh, the weird shit is at least interesting and creative when you compare it to the boring-ass "check it out bro we're all wearing SUITS" or "dude we're totally wearing kimonos lmao we're so traditional" looks that way too many vk bands do nowadays i'd much rather take the weird yoda stuff over smth like kiryu, who have basically been recycling the same 3 or 4 general styles their entire career, for example.. for people who claim to be into visual stuff a lot of y'all are still pretty quick to write off anything that deviates from the generic vk pretty boy norm
  35. 1 point
Not really understanding how an opinion on personal taste has more/less merit depending on how long you've been a fan and if you've been to Japan or not. I personally have been listening to this album more than anything they've put out since VULGAR/Withering, so because of that it stands out as being one of their better efforts as far as I'm concerned.
  36. 1 point
I don't want to sound rude but to say that this is some of their best work, is just so wrong imo.. This album doesn't even have one 10/10 song. The best would be Ranuculus, which is a 7/10 at best. Everything else is 5/10 (average) or below. This comes from someone who have been a fan of them for 15+ yearsm and moved to Japan simply to be able to go to their concerts, lmao.

You'd be surprised, it's disgusting how in Japan every time they start playing Sustain the Untruth, the fans act like Christmas came early. Seen it 30+ times and by the end of the tours I would feel like the band was doing it on purpose just to mock me. A show without Sustain was like a gift. Easily the most annoying Dir en grey live track.

    Kisaki Drama 2k18

Having just caught up on this entire controversy, this is a very disturbing and disgusting thing to read. I'm not going to pass judgement on the man just yet, since this is still in its infancy and there are more facts to discover, and clarifying questions that I can ask for days to both parties, but my gut feeling says this incident isn't going to disappear (unlike the court case of a certain other band member who was the center of attention earlier this year). If the police escalate the situation - and I see no reason not to given the mountain of evidence provided - KISAKI is as good as done. This isn't his first brush with the law, but this may be the scandal that not only ends his career, but buries it so that no one will give him a second tenth shot. Whether you want to collect his remaining merchandise or burn it in a bonfire, this isn't a good thing for visual kei. We shook off another pedophile and a murderer in just this year alone, and now there's this. What a way to strip the glitz and foundation off of the scene in such an unceremonious way, especially from someone who has been seen as a pillar in the scene for almost two decades. It makes you really think about who else in the scene has skeletons in their closet.

This is great!! I'm a total nerd for blast beats and hearing them get used a bit more in VK always makes me happy, but so much of this going a bit more in the "full BM" direction is really satisfying. I'd love to see more bands in the scene pull from that kind of metal - just a certain level of atmosphere and intensity that isn't found in some of the "chuggier" riffs a lot of bands rely on.

    #113: NINTH by The GazettE

    | One of the best GazettE albums in recent memory. I can't believe it's been three years since DOGMA. It feels like I just finished roasting it for being the "most underwhelming album of the year" and "ARCHE, Iowa-era Slipknot, and a quarter of DIM shoved in a blender and served cold". To be fair, most of my criticisms came from how stale and similar all the songs felt; the result of going a bit too far in the metalcore direction. Ever the perfectionists, it seems that the band actually addressed all of my complaints with NINTH. By combining the dark and heavy nature of DOGMA with the electronic rock explored with TOXIC and DIVISION and the retro "Gaze-rock" style of BEAUTIFUL DEFORMITY, The GazettE have succeeded in delivering an experience that mixes old and new sounds. NINTH won't win you over if you don't like the direction of the last four albums. If you took more of an issue with the execution of those concepts, than this is what you've been waiting for since DIM. It's been a while since I feel comfortable recommending an album of theirs. NINTH is an easier and more engaging listening experience than DOGMA, with smooth, slick, and balanced production. I don't understand the criticisms of "muddy production" because I don't hear it. I even pulled out my good headphones - the Sennheiser HD600s - and plugged them straight into my Logitech speakers to pluck out minor grievances with the mix and it sounded better that way. This reaches a level that visual kei music can rarely afford to reach. Ruki has advised fans to get great audio equipment to experience each album to the fullest, but I think it's more true now than before. The songs are also arranged very well and flow into each other, and I can't recall a single jarring stylistic transition. All of these elements together makes every song an attractive listening experience. There's also the absence of several elements which used to drag down prior releases: the lack of standout tracks, filler, and clumsy Green Day-ish all English punk songs that stick out. The GazettE cut the fat out of this album in a way I wish Dir en grey could. An album can still have highlights even when it's consistently good. I can't end this review without naming my favorite tracks. The first would be "その声は脆く", a rock ballad which starts on an unassuming note before effortlessly sliding into a thick, melancholic atmosphere. It even has a (short) twin guitar solo, a staple of rock songs I've been missing from their music lately. The follow-up track, "Babylon's Taboo", creates the best one-two punch on NINTH. I could be convinced that this is a heavier take on an unreleased 9GOATS BLACK OUT song. "Falling" is the de facto single of the album, receiving the first music video to push the album, and there's a damn good reason why. "The Mortal" is another track that deserves a shout out for mixing some of NIL-era flavor in the chorus with DOGMA-style riffs in the breakdown, and serves as a great summary for the journey the album takes us on. If The GazettE were still releasing singles, this would have been the second one. NINTH makes a strong argument for keeping a low profile until an album is complete. Visual kei bands can capture my attention with rapid fire single releases, but that makes it harder to impress me with an album of familiar content. NINTH wouldn't be as impressive if they gave us previews and teasers months or years before it was done. I hope other bands are taking notes. If you haven't already, put some cash towards this worthy album. It will be favorably remembered for years to come. Support the artist! iTunes
