2 pointsHello to this heaven, I came back from hell, probably the second time 😉 yeah.. I took myself away from all online social media platforms three years ago I would say. but yes! Girugamesh is what brought me back, listening to their old school tunes got me thinking of Jrock again! I think I said this in my previous, "I'm Back!" post. I really don't keep up with any news of Jrock of today. I guess for Dir en Grey I do know, but that was pretty much unavoidable for me. Still listen to their music time to time. but yes for the most part, clueless. What I still listen to are, Dir en Grey, Malice Mizer, Moi Dix Mois, emmuree, The God and Death Stars and Girugamesh. I REALLY love weird fuckin music, so I'll be looking for that. Recommend, mention, comment and hopefully it'll be in my path to see. I listen to all worlds of music. Does anyone remember me? No? its okay. You're probably not here either. again! Hello to everyone!

I can definitely also see the paralels to sukekiyo, in both bands! As for Black Metal or DSBM and VK together, it's actually very surprising that there aren't more bands doing it. With all the occultism, depression, suicide and general nihilism in the themes many bands are using and the fact that basically any metal genre can be considered 'VK music' now as long as the band has the look and plays at certain events its not that unlikely. Recently I saw a japanese article about Madmans Esprit and that genre combination that is very in-depth and it way interesting to read. Although I was surprised of them calling early mucc DSBM. Actually he is the guitarist of ms. isohp romatem while their vocalist is support guitarist for his live shows. Your point still stands, though. The metal scene in South Korea is already shockingly small and a visual kei scene pretty much does not exist anymore except for 3-4 bands. BP records bands keep playing shows there, though. So there has to be at least something... btw, new look of ms. isohp romatem -

DIR EN GREY released their 10th album "The Insulated World" on September 26, 2018
Takadanobabaalien reacted to VESSMIER for a post in a topic
I think the cover is very beautiful and intriguing. I will admit though that it is rather unusual for DEG, not only because of their choice of colors but also (and especially) because the more I think about the motif, colors and different design elements, the more I get the feeling that this cover art expresses something radically contrary to what the album title suggests (and contrary to DEG's usual vibe): peace, enlightenment and spirituality. At first I tried to read it from the usual angle: dark, depressive, gloomy, aggressive etc. and the fractal design of the cover came to mind and I thought, well, maybe it signifies something along the lines of a fragmented personality/world (lat. fractus = broken) or that everything repeats itself endlessly. That would mean that nothing can truly change because real change without repetition is not possible resulting in immobility and apathy. That's where the "insulation" from the album title comes in. Plus the funnel-like objects surrounding the pupils have those dark swirls in them which might be a metaphor for all the pain and suffering or generally bad things this person has absorbed etc... BUT then there’s the general expression of that person on the cover which I'm deducing mainly from the mouth and they look quite content, graceful, even dignified. The eyes are certainly wide open, so they seem to be quite perceptive and open to experience. The bindi-like dot on the forehead (the location of the third eye) is associated with spirituality and deeper perception and the color purple is usually associated with wisdom, peace, nobility, power, a higher self and so on. There's also the white fractal surrounding almost the entire head like a halo. Obviously, spiritual elements play a huge role in that image. But there's also the interplay between heaven (the golden area around the head looks like a sunlit sky) and earth (the green-brown area beginning on the neck and stretching further down to the chest) - so there's the heart that grounds you (soma) and the mind that wanders and aspires to that which is located on a higher experiential plane (psyche). And that’s just off the top of my head… I think it’s a really cool cover and certainly lends itself to many interpretations. The spirituality aspect cannot be denied though I think and it makes me wonder if this is to represent a DEG that has shaken off its earthly shackles (like depression and pain) and has ascended to a higher realm of consciousness? 🙉And will that also show in lyrics? Or is it just artistic hybris: "Hey we have a new record, it'll blow your fucking mind". Whatever it is, I'm looking forward to it! PS: You guys are unimaginative and boring as shit with your snarky comments - why u sound so butthurt all the time? -

1 pointyeah, that's it.and for sure, if they were japanese they would be one of the most commented bands here their sound really impresses me,plus the "korean essence" in it ,which something that i'm not used to as i said btw,the diversity, the passion, the elegant and at the same time sinister atmosphere on some tracks gives me strong Sukekiyo's vibes and it's one of the favorite bands of the vocalist,so he's definitely influenced i'm excited for this release, and glad that i've found someone to discuss about these guys their other project is pretty interesting as well

1 pointOfficial artworks unveiled, one for each edition: Wasn't expecting this... I thought they were going for a different art style, similar to the one hinted at the lastest promotional band photoshoot (white, pure and kind of ethereal, with some sort of a 'traditional asian' vibe -at least that was what Kaoru, Toshiya and Die's clothes seemed to hint for me). This looks like a mix between Tool and Björk. I really like it, but it seems weird! I give a lot of importance to an album's artwork, and it changes how I perceive its music. The only thing I do not like is the deathcore-ish font. On a second thought, it looks like a similar font to In Flames' 'A Sense of Purpose'...

I'm guessing they censored a bunch of stuff to try and make the band seem more risque than they really are. I mean, one of the words they censored was "AV" (meaning adult video). They also censored him jacking off the microphone. So my guess is they're just trying to make themselves way edgier. -

1 pointArche has some great songs but it’s not very fun to listen to all the way through. There are too many songs that are neither fast and heavy nor melodic and emotional so they just end up in a really boring middle ground. I love songs like Rinkaku, Behind a Vacant Image, Kaishun and Tousei, or on the opposite end of the spectrum, songs like Midwife, Revelation of Mankind, Uroko and The Inferno. But, like, does anyone really like Soshaku that much? Or Sustain the Untruth? Some of the songs just felt like filler.
-
1 point'Conceived Sorrow' is one of my favourite opening tracks ever, and one of my favourites by the band. I really love the piano, the smooth bassline and the dramatism. 'Ware, Yami Tote...' is like 'Conceived Sorrow' but on stereoids! I like the drumming and the crescendo in Kyo's performance (those screams at 05:20 - 05:26 are soul crushing). I enjoy 'Vanitas' a lot too. The guitar solo is one of Kaoru and Die's finest moment, especially the tremolo harmonies and everything that follows that section. A moment of calmness amidst Dum Spiro Spero's bipolar violence. Regarding 'ARCHE', I love 'Kukoku no Kyon', possibly my favourite track on the whole album. They really nailed the acoustic guitar sound, and that synth (or is it an e-bowed guitar?!) creates a really melancholic atmosphere. The Utafumi version with Sugizo on violin takes the song to a whole other level: the chorus hits really hard. Seelentau, could you describe Ranunculus? I imagine it as a mix of the dark and gloomy vibe of 'Conceived Sorrow' with the piano driven and ethereal beauty of 'Rinkaku' (without the doom and technical riffing, of course).

1 pointJust attended the 10th incarnation of Inner Awakening Festival here in Budapest, 100% underground black metal mayhem over two nights as expected. Some thoughts on the participating bands: Day 1 Goatcraft (Slovakia) - Started off things nicely, nothing remarkable but solid black metal with a nice atmosphere. Lepra (Hungary) - Total crushing darkness as they always do. One of the best and most recognizable Hungarian BM bands currently imo. Kaosophia (Ukraine) - These guys were the highlights for me on the first night. Highly atmospheric, and catchy yet technical stuff. Impressive! Inferno (Czech Republic) - I wasn't feeling it. The weak sound (after what seemed to be the longest soundcheck of all time) ruined it most of all. I left halfway through Inferno's set cuz I was really tired and sleepy, so I couldn't see Mortuus (Sweden) but heard they were good. Day 2 Niedergang (Hungary) - Great start. Excellent guitarplay with equal amounts of moody and thrashy, a bit of a mid-90s throwback vibe. Dunkelheit (Hungary) - Holy moly, this was the loudest gig at the whole fest probably, lol. Stylistically they were similar to Niedergang, so pretty solid. До Скону / Do Skonu (Ukraine) - These guys had more of a death metal sound. Would've been a nice refreshment if they weren't so utterly boring. Meh. Head of The Demon (Sweden) - YES. YESSS. YEEESSS!!! I came just for this band and they killed us all. They were very different from the rest of the lineup, dare I say not even 'pure' black metal (but certainly with BM elements). It's like someone traveled back in time to give a group of occult magicians a Black Sabbath and a Neurosis record to write ritualistic demon-conjuring music. Had a really trippy, airy and esoteric doom vibe. Great stage presence too, not something I'd say for most of the other bands, heh. After HOTD there was still Hell Militia (France) left but I had to go before they took the stage cuz I had early-shift work today, mehhh. All in all, a really cool time. Only negative thing was the unpredictable lengths of the soundchecks (two years ago they managed to solve it really punctually, so I thought everything would go according to schedule now too), but it was tolerable still. Can't wait for them to announce next year's lineup!

My favorite album this year (though the 🍈 didn't approve *angery face*.) I've started listening to Denzel's TA13OO, and it's pretty gooood. --- As for "unique", my gateway to a lot of hip-hop has been jazz. Listening to more melodic tracks kinda ate away at the distance I had with traditional rap, and helped me embrace more "mainstream" artists. -
1 pointNot really sure about what you're looking for, and I don't really listen to rap metal so I can't help you there. But I do listen to a lot of rap that is dark or brutal, and are quite popular among metal fans. Scarlxrd is pretty fucking metallic and way, way, way more brutal and metallic sounding than any "rap metal" act out there. Brutal beats, screaming and all kind of shit going on. But it's not your regular wimpy rap metal shit. You won't find those wimpy, half-groovy riffs or anything. Death Grips is also very metallic sounding, albeit not metal. Experimental and brutal rap, but without the wimpy side. Bones and Suicideboys just because they're dark as fuck. Run DMC are a must for fans of rap and rock. The perfect combination. A mixtape put together by Joel Grind of Toxic Holocaust fame. Dark and twisted Mephis rap. Stuff like Necro, Circle of Tyrants, Heavy Metal Kings, Jedi Mind Tricks and related bands might also be of interest. Again, not rap metal or anything tho. And this might be of interest. Not exactly metal, but got a lot in common with some of the rap metal bands of the past.
