I just looked at some videos on dystonia patients....this is fucking awful. He says he only has it on his upper right arm, but I'm scared that it may progress all over. I wish the very best for Yusuke. As for those who are saying the band needed this hiatus because "their music sucks anyway"...shame on you. This announcement was very sudden, and losing someone like Yusuke over something as devastating as this is a huge blow to the band, and this man may have to deal with this for the rest of his life. Shame on you.

    #114: XIII by lynch.

    | This leftover pizza tastes better once you warm it up. Tracklist: 1. INTRODUCTION 2. THIRTEEN 3. GROTESQUE 4. EXIST 5. JØKER 6. RENATUS 7. AMBLE 8. SENSE OF EMPTINESS 9. FIVE 10. INTERLUDE 11. FAITH 12. OBVIOUS 13. A FOOL With the return of bassist Akinori, lynch. has become a 5-member band once again. With tours 「13th ANNIVERSARY –Xlll GALLOWS- [THE FIVE BLACKEST CROWS], 『TOUR’18「THE NITES OF AVANTGARDE #2」“A BLØODY REVENGE”』, and the release of their compilation album SINNERS -no one can fake my bløod, the band has been on the move during 2018. While the announcement for their new album XIII had warranted excitement, it also brought along with it some skepticism from fans. Seems reasonable since we have seen an abundance of mediocre re-recordings and mixes from lynch. How the band could have possibly had the time to put together an album, let alone what it was going to sound like, was something to be concerned about. First impressions of XIII are positive. The album feels balanced, as Hazuki’s vocals are not the only prominent feature here but the chords and basslines of the guitars that compliment it, providing strength in the mid-range as well as an actual presence. Tracks such as "THIRTEEN", "RENATUS", and "FIVE" are perfect examples of these nuances, as well as some highlight tracks of XIII that are equally enjoyable. Taking note at one of lynch.’s only hindrances, we see that they've stuck to the same composition style as their last two albums, making a large portion of XIII feel like a collection of B-sides. It failed to strike immediate chords with me, something that D.A.R.K and even AVANTGARDE had no problem with. Adding to this is a variation in sound, something unfamiliar that I knew would take time to be accepted as the new norm. The balance in vocal and guitar strings, while being right up my alley, leaves the drumming much to be desired. There is reduced dynamic range, isolation, and maybe even a flat signature, ridding any “tail end” from the drums that could give the album more life. With arrangements mimicking the last two releases, and an unfamiliar sound, my first listen through XIII felt like one big blur. However, after giving the album a couple week’s worth of listening, an appropriate break-in period that I felt was needed, XIII by lynch. has distinguishing attributes that separate it from the rest of their discography. The more I listen to it, the more my initial thoughts beforehand seem like fan uneasiness as lynch. has revisited their past work and refined it, throwing in inspiration from Visual Kei bands of the 90s like Kuroyume, Luna Sea, and Laputa. "RENATUS" has become a track favorite, with an astounding atmosphere that gives the aggression of those guitars a stronger bite. I’m a sucker for melodic tracks, and "AMBLE" sounds almost euphoric, providing many moments of elation that I wish could last forever. The versatility in musical instruments during "FAITH" is one to definitely check out. Lastly, the emotional cool-down track that is "A FOOL" brings XIII to a smooth close, without trying too hard to make it obvious. XIII sounds completely different than it did a couple weeks ago, as the album takes on an empathetic atmosphere, driving a nostalgia trip that's going to be different for everyone. The album is able to express its confidence here with an abundance of melodies and guitar solos, like a tribute to 13 years of lynch.'s past work, with a glint of 90’s Visual Kei thrown into the mix. Whether this combination will make one feel something is up to the listener, but overall this album certainly has become a standalone release that I can easily stand behind, only after being given some time to warm up to it first.

This basically. And the scene is very different from any other scene in the west. Also the pressure these guys have by the japanese society/elders/family etc, I can imagine it must be tough and I can definitely see why a lot of people give up "early" (five years is not early for a vk band tbh). (I think that) unless these guys make it big very early on they usually quit because they realize it's not a viable career path. On the other hand you have guys like Yuuga and Kyouka who simply don't give a fuck. But not giving a fuck is harder in the japanese society than most western countries.

I think that it would be hard to recover from the loss of Yusuke quickly, even if there are a lot of other skilled drummers in the industry. That is, assuming that they were tight-knit. Tbh, a portion of me almost hopes they return with someone like Meto or even Luvia on drums now that both MEJIBRAY and CANIVAL are disbanded or to be. Though, I've never seen a CANIVAL live, so I don't know how Luvia plays [live] and whether or not he's inexperienced or not. Regardless of their admittedly lacking last few releases, they still have so much potential. I can only hope that this loss doesn't result in a disbandment. Far too many bands announce a hiatus and then just decide to disband instead. Maybe it's me being pessimistic, but it wouldn't surprise me if they were seriously dedicated to music, but simply were unable to recover from a drummer like Yusuke having to withdraw. I can only hope that doesn't happen and that their next release after having recovered from this ordeal will be impressive.

Reasons why bands disband so fast?!

I guess you two have never played in a band before? Its so common and the main problem in a band because mostly you have 5 people with 5 different opinions..

Reasons why bands disband so fast?!

+ Arguing of the members about what to play how aka musical differences (anyone who ever played in a band will understand easily). Those two are definitly the main reasons. All those drama reasons you wrote are funny but not the main problems i think (while still exceptionally high in vk compared to other genres).

    #114: XIII by lynch.

I've listened to XIII a few times and can confirm that this isn't a new low in lynch.'s career. It's not a new high either. It's hard to do new things when your livelihood revolves around doing the same thing in a new way in perpetuity. With no immediate flaws that demand attention, It's not the stinker that GALLOWS was on first listen. I do have a lot of nitpicks about certain songs and choices made, which work together to take the album down a few pegs. I haven't listened to lynch.'s new material seriously in a year and a half because I got tired of the monotony of their heavier sound, but respected that willingness to push in new directions, fail a few times, and learn from those experiences. They've walked back on that experimentation here for the most part and in many ways have regressed to SHADOWS-era songwriting capability, but they walked it so far back I don't sense any of the lessons learned in the final product. I say "for the most part" because a large part of my burnout comes from how one-dimensional their heavier tracks are, and that is still front and center. XIII gets good when the band lets songs like "RENATUS" and "SENSE OF EMPTINESS" do all of the talking, and makes me realize how much I'd kill for a ballad mini-album from them. There are other deep cuts in XIII which indicate that effort was spent on the album; the guitar melody at the end of "GROTESQUE" is an easy example of new ideas put into production. Songs like "JOKER" illustrate there are still visual-kei motifs they haven't exhausted yet (although I feel like that carnival/jazz take on rock was done better on "GHOST"). But dear god, the amount of times I was listening to a new song and thought I was listening to something else entirely is too damn high, much like rent. And having two one minute interludes on the album to bulk up a track list that would otherwise look anemic is a personal pet peeve. There's not much left to say except that it's another album from lynch., it's at least better than half of their previous albums, and it's not doing anything to turn old fans away or to bring new fans into the fold.

Reasons why bands disband so fast?!

Yo folks, I'm wondering about your thought's why bands break up within 5 years. Now days bands sometimes disband before they start or even give up within year. Which reasons can be behind this, any thought's? A too big dream to get fast popular Fan jealousy (Aka, it get's leaked that a member has a girlfriend or woman he shares the bed with) Fan jealousy (Other kind of trouble) Fan hate (For whatever reason) Band jealousy (Yes, that also exists, sometimes other bands get Jealous and makes it almost impossible to continue) Not be able to pay their dept A member to be a dick to steal all money A member to be a dick to disappear out of nothing A member leaves the band Not supported by a live house anymore (Sometimes bands can play because they get support) Lost connections (If they are friends of bands, its more easy to play at venues, etc) Fired from a label (happens in secret too) Bad sales No real heart for music Started a band only for money Thinking looks brings in money Creating Trash music (Aka, can't really play their instruments) That's what I think of... If you look at rock and punk bands, they also are poor and have difficulties to gain money from fans and to gain fans isn't always that easy too. But they keep on going and work daily hard to pay for studio and band costs. And of course some longer living visual kei bands are also that way, only handful of fans, but yet going. Even if a member does leave the band, for whatever reason, bands keep on going. (often they only quit if a vocalist drops out the band) If a band does go on a break or will disband after a year of 5... I would say, okay you have tried. But anything lesser than that.... Also if a vocalist will leave a band, I agree of starting over under a new name. However it's not 100% necessary as we also saw bands going under the same name. So why are those young bands giving up this fast? Do they really need to quit? MH reasons; musical differences laziness Doing bands indefinetely is impossible. (decide to get a real job). Can't deal with popularity Member taken away to a different band

Maybe certains who had a contract with label and these hold more time because they had a contrat respect. In the beginning everyone is ok or maybe certains don't really know what the music who want. And this gave musical difference or differents opinion. Maybe the young bands don't know how the system is. Or the reality is different or more difficult than they think.

I know enough bandman with a real job and being in a band. So it's not an excuse. Some bands aren't popular, far from that. At least most bands who disband within 2 years only have a few fans.... But not gaining many fans within an amount of time can give frustrating. and yes that can give different ideas. But yet, if a band gets popular fast, not everyone can deal with it. ~~~~~~~~ but maybe jealousy inside a band can be a reason: Aka one guy is way more handsome and get all the chicks. ( ̄▽ ̄;)

Reasons why bands disband so fast?!

Sometimes young bands get popular too fast. Every band aims to be the big name in the scene, but when they actually get popular like, within two years or so it gets overwhelming to them. And everyone has different idea of popularity and ways to deal with it.

5 Things I Hate About VK

A big yes to you both! well, there are fans out there who make videos about why their favourite ship is totally real (especially seen that in VK, but I’m sure there were dir en grey fans like this too at some point), so it certainly raises the question how in touch these fans are with reality. They might even sent shipping fanart to their favs etc. but I guess most older VK fans are not like that, and enjoy VK for what it is, which is great

5 Things I Hate About VK

I was discussing this with my gf 2 days ago... that happens a lot in the western fandom, in social media-based circles that don't look much into the scene and have no clue of how it actually works in Japan. I think the fandom in Japan in general knows how things are. Of course, there are whackos like everywhere else.

In my opinion, some people created an emotional and no-nonsense hatred over Starwave, but I really think they are very good and decent, I do not see a problem with them, they try to do everything they can in the right way without exploiting the fans. UFJ is an excellent band, the releases are good, the songs are well recorded. Some clips are kind of boring and cloying, but not all, and in a general way they hold the elements of Justice King.

these were the bands i associate with the zeitgeist of mid-late 00s visual kei fandom in the west. only some of them are legendary because they were actually good, but they all defined the era, for me. the bands people were talking about during this time in JP were obviously very different. but nobody specified what kind of legendary we're talking about :^) Ancafe, D'espairsray, Nightmare, Gazette, Dir, Alice Nine, Miyavi, Kagrra, ReS, Psycho le Cemu, LM.C, SID (Aki fangirls) 12012 (Wataru)/Phantasmagoria (Kisaki) Vidoll?
