*sits down in rocking chair* "Piracy: an act of robbery on the high sea-" *cough* "Piracy: the unauthorized use of another's production, invention, or conception especially in infringement of a copyright" The warnings you get that precede DVD contents, plastered on CDs, etc. are constant reminders that piracy is clearly DEFINED . We've moved the conversation beyond the point of piracy b/c this forum promotes the sharing of copyrighted content. We can crunch all the numbers we want about vk band revenue streams, but in a legal sense all of us who participate in this are in the "wrong". The arguments and debates on this forum really stem from our subjective stances on the value of content in its physical and digital form. In my subjective opinion, I think piracy (in the scope of vk) has been helpful for promotion both overseas and within Japan. While it's dodgy, I would have NEVER gotten into Visual Kei if it weren't for those who uploaded material on streaming and download sites. I would go as far as saying that the sharing of content has been quite helpful in promoting artists & amassing fans who spend $ on them. The largest revenue stream for most vk bands are lives, and , generally, only fans that are really engaged w/ the bands are going to go in the first place. Most people aren't inclined to show up to a live w/o hearing the artists' work (it would be a waste of money). CDs and DVDs are products as well as promotional tools, and making that material available to a larger audience grows that promotional value. Piracy might take away a little revenue, but I believe that there is net growth in the long run. In the context of overseas content consumption: The delivery methods of piracy have changed a lot in the past few decades, transforming from physical -> digital -> digital + streaming. In our scope, most of us have witnessed the piracy shift from P2P (Peer-to-Peer e.g LimeWire & Torrenting) to DDL (Direct Download e.g. MegaUpload/Mega/Mediafire) to YouTube uploads. As Visual Kei (and Japanese Music) has shifted from niche P2P sharing to largely accessible streaming & social media, the impressionable audience has gotten much larger. Those who discover these bands and this genre are so enticed/entertained that they want to consume, even participate in buying all this content, but then it hits them. Shipping fees, CD prices, live-limited content, and the list goes on. You're too far physically to participate in lives and it's too expensive to keep up (or completely unreasonable for those who don't make their own money, teenagers.) Of course there is going to be pirating. Now here's where I stand. No one is entitled to upload anything, but I've made it my small mission to close the gap for overseas fans w/ my channel & my uploads here and elsewhere. I put a lot of "$" value in substance and promotional value in "content" (if that makes any sense). I don't like uploading everything I have in FLAC or even 320 b/c of the time & effort it takes to acquire "those" releases in the first place, but I'm willing to share everything on YT (it's gotten much easier to upload w/o your channel being suddenly taken down). I don't think everyone is entitled to having "pristine" copies just willy-nilly, but I think it would be a mistake for me not to at least share. From the bottom of my heart, I want people to love VK because is something I've grown to love. It has been a refuge, an eye-opener, and a catalyst for my exploration in music. In addition, if the content I share can get at least one person to love or maybe even invest in VK as much as I have, then I'll be happy to continue being a pirate. (I hope this doesn't sound too scatterbrained. I've been coding most of the day and I'm a little eye-strained. Please ask me to clarify my points if need be.)

NOT THIS TOPIC AGAIN! Relax, it's not what you think. If you guys remember this topic - and I'm sure most of you do - then you will remember that I made a proposal at the end of it. What I said I wanted to observe was the effect of "our" piracy - our as in Monochrome Heaven - on visual kei sales, using the GazettE's newest album "NINTH" as the benchmark. Some of you really took this suggestion to heart, and others thought I was making a bad joke. I wasn't. There's something to be said for testing even the most obvious of conclusions because sometimes the results can surprise you, but the results of this did not. I knew that this album would leak and make its way here well under the two weeks I specified. Next time someone restarts the discussion of supporting our favorite bands by not pirating their music, point them to this topic and remind them that the Internet is a very large place and that shouting your demands in one corner of it isn't going to change what happens where your voice and influence can't reach. Not even mine. It's good to know that we are not the center of the visual kei universe. We have some influence and we do our part to keep the show going, but if we were to disappear tomorrow, I don't think the show would stop. That is ultimately a good thing. The scene needs to spread if it wants to stay alive. It seems pretty obvious but its worth reiterating. For what it's worth, the album didn't appear here first so it's not like we are the alpha and the omega to all of the woes our favorite bands go through. The conclusion that I can draw from this failed social experiment is that we need a better definition of what "piracy" actually is. There are reasons why the international scene depends on piracy, so to make future discussions more useful we should find as many different reasons as we can and the distribution within the scene. To that end, I've attached an anonymous poll to the top of this post. If you are interested, vote for the option that fits your situation the best, and if there isn't one (and you don't mind), share your specific reasons below. I'll leave this topic open until the end of the month so you guys can share your thoughts and opinions.

the GazettE new album, "NINTH" release

“U” is next to “i” and even in 2018 I struggle with touch screen keyboards. As for “bero”, I’m just going by what’s on US iTunes. I don’t like some of the heaviest tracks because they sound so much like other heavy Gazette tracks. And despite Ruki’s vocal skills, I don’t think he’s that creative with melodies or phrasing, so it’s usually his fault when a song sounds just like another Gazette song.

    Hey hey!

Hey everybody, I've decided to make a profile since I've been reading posts here for years. I've been into VK since 2006-2007(I was 12-13 back then, I'm almost 24 now) and I still listen to it 24/7, nothing else, haha.. Also been to a few concerts (when bands use to come to The Netherlands which they rarely do nowadays). VK was also an outlet for me to dress feminine and eventually start hormones/surgeries(5-6 years ago). I use to dress up (inspired by a few bandmembers) and live my life like that, haha, but I'm kinda basic now clothing-wise.. I'm more into the early VK era now (90s) but mainly 'cause I've listened to almost all the 2000-2012 stuff and didn't pay the early era's much attention until 2012. I'm not so much into the newer era.. You can check my likes-playlist on youtube: thewebsweweaved to check out what I like(I listen to more VK bands through cds etc, a lot of stuff is deleted on youtube). Maybe someone here has suggestions so I can check 'em out. It's hard to find people that like the same music. It truly is a big passion of mine and I can't describe how much I love the sounds, vocals and unique beats of some songs. Sorry for my long ass intro and thanks for reading to those that did.. x

[Album Review] The GazettE - Ninth

So, Ninth is out and what I've mostly read online is that it is not at the same level as Dogma, it's generic, it's been heard before, bla bla bla... so I tried it out asap and wrote an overall review, (don't expect a song-by-song musical analysis). I have to agree on one thing with the negative critics: Dogma was the shit on a technical level, but the more I play it the more it feels like a single long song. I distinctly remember playing it for the first time and asking myself "when is this song ending, sounds like a freakin' Versailles song", only to check the iPod and realize it was already on track three. Sure, Ninth sounds like "shit we've heard before", but the album on it's own is more diverse, soundwise, and has ups and downs. I rated songs while I went through it with 4 stars and others with 2, 3's and a 5 along the way. Dogma was a flat three. All the way. For Dogma, none of the tracks sucked but none was outstanding for me either. Which is not a good thing because I honestly never even remember what the album sounds like (the album and the singles related to the concept). And every time I play it to see if I magically start liking it I get bored and switch to something else halfway. Ninth, however, felt more... Complete? Catchy? Memorable? Your pick. It was definitely something else. I can distinctly remember which tracks stood out for me and which ones I disliked. Whereas for Dogma I cannot even tell them apart. Sure, it's generic GazettE, it's stuff we all know, it's familiar. But more importantly: it works. Structures work together to make songs memorable, in good or bad ways. And, tbh, I feel if any other band would have released this it would have been probably praised. But since it's Ruki's distinct voice attached to those riffs people get a "déjà vu(heard)" feel. And, being the popular band it is, the bar is always high when it comes to them. While Dogma was a good dive into darker, heavier waters, I always felt their execution of it was not as proficient or distinctive as it could have been. While, for me, Ninth nailed it. You can always try new things, and I'm all for bands attempting new styles, but sometimes it can be better to go back to a safer zone and kill it than keep attempting at something new and do it halfway. And Ninth is good proof of it. I get the more versatile feel I got from albums like Nil and Stacked Rubbish, in a more mature, polished and 2018-ish way. The tracks that stood out for me were Falling, Utsusemi, Sono Koe wa Moroku and Unfinished (a banger, way to finish an album). I did not pay attention to the first version of Falling and I will certainly not do it now, but this version gave me a better impression (it could be the transcode-decent bitrate difference rather than the mixing itself). It's catchy and modern enough for a PV and the composition has Ruki all over it. I'm a sucker for good rock ballads and Sono Koe wa Moroku was melodic enough without going on a chopped-onion level of cornyness. Utsusemi and Unfinished were just straight up my alley; strong yet not overly harsh on the voice. Ninth Odd Smell and Gush sadly blend together a bit too much for my taste yet both are solid tracks that will most likely grow on me and Babylon's Taboo was barely... bearable. The SE track was terrible, but their SE's rarely are my taste at all. The Mortal has a mystic feel to it and to me it carries on the atmosphere from the previous releases, with a pleasant twist. Abhor God is powerful and thankfully short, otherwise I'd feel it drags on more than necessary. I feel it will be a great song live. Two of a Kind felt like a "fresh old Gazette" and Uragiru Bero fitted the album nicely to, but didn't catch my attention that much, felt like a filler track. The album showed both a heavier side yet was kept melodic and reminded me a lot of Division, one of their best releases imho. Like it, it was packed with both harsh and softer aspects and shows maturity and improvement. Overall I give it a 4/5, and I will most likely buy it in Japan in a few months. Otherwise I'll get the iTunes version. It's a great release and if you felt lately that GazettE was getting stale you should definitely try this album. It is unmistakably The GazettE, yet fresh and modern.

Unfinished ends on a fade out. How clever. Still a banging song though. As of right now I’ll say Ninth has more variety than Dogma, but I’m not necessarily sure if I like it more than Dogma. Utsusemi is strong as fuck, and when Uragiri Bero turns into late 90s VK for a second with Uruha doing the old school “flicka flicka” guitar thing, that makes that entire song. At 43 minutes it’s also easier to digest than the average Gazette album, so that works on its favor too. Overall though, yeah, a lot of this is typical Gazette.

The GazettE - NINTH [REVIEWS THREAD]

Since it's already 06/13 in Japan, discussion about The GazettE new album - NINTH can be open. For myself, I didn't bought the album. Maybe I buy it later digitally at least if it will appear on worldwide itunes. But I'm still thinking, because I'm not a fan perse. Album is digital available at: Amazon EUROPE, (FR DE ES...) (Amazon Japan and US don't sell it) iTunes Japan (on 06/20) So, what are your thought's about the album and why should someone support the band this time? If you bought the physically CD, what did you think of the packaging and the price in overall. Is the price the quality worth it? As for what I've listened out of the PV Falling I must say that it doesn't sound that band. But if is really enough to support a band I actually never support? I give it a longer thought. But it sounds much much better than their early years. The GazettE - Ninth review After 3 years, The GazettE finally drops out an FULL album again. This time they called their album Ninth and released it in 4 different types. I myself went for the digital version. I thought I started to like the GazettE after LEECH. But the releases after it couldn't keep me listing to them and I still think DIM was their best album, even if DIM also not really fit's my taste. So will this finally change with Ninth?! After all the guys used 3 years to drop an album with only 2 singles in between and just a best album to fill up the time. Let's give it a listen. 1 99.999 [1:17] *** Intro track, which has some heavy beats and some strange up words a bit of electronic military vibe. Which lead into the next song. 2 Falling -NINTH MIX - [3:48] ***** The song starts quietly with a nice melody soon filled into a heavy guitar beat with a nice speed up. clean and grunting vocal fits and leads each other perfectly. Ruki's way of singing is just stunning. All breaks fits, guitar/bass and drum fits each other 100%. A song which is easy to like. and the song also ends quietly which leads you into the next song. 3 Ninth Odd Smell [3:23] ***** Stars nicely with some drumming beat which will flow in some heavy guitar beats and a harsh voice scream, then it's leads in some clean singing and some harsh singing and goes to clean singing and so on. Which totally not get's annoying its in perfect harmony. Just yes please! 4 Gush [3:27] ***** This song reminds me of some older songs of them but still different when the song is playing? Ruki's voice starts electric but it fits totally the melody and will turn later in Ruki's usually voice. The beat of the melody is nicely heavy in the parts Ruki sings more calmly and a good keeping up beat when the song is wild. It keeps up nice speed. Also the more harsh voice it's totally lovely. It's very easy to listen until the end. But the song still ends abrupt in the more electronic kind of beat. as it's broken. 5 The Mortal 4:04 ***** Starts with a typical dark heavy VK growl (in a good way). However after about 40 sec the song totally get's calmly and you hear a beautiful voice singing, which leads slowly into more heaviness. Also a perfect song in harmony. Melody doesn't get annoying and is very easy to listen until the end. Ruki's voice is full of emotion. Maybe a bit to calmly for my own taste but yet it's damn beautiful! Get me a bit more of this kind of songs! 6 虚蜩 [3:47]***** This song also starts calmy intro already leads you into a damn master melody. Ruki's voice is calmy like a beautiful ballad way, but with a kind of rock sound melody behind. Also you can hear emotion in his voice. 7 その声は脆く [5:02]**** ballad, at bit too calmly for my taste. But 100% a very nicely song for people who really like calmly songs in this kind of style. The way of singing, Ruki does it really beautifully. And melody is also 100% in harmony. It's very easy to listen to the end. 8 Babylon's Taboo [3:35]**** Some parts really sound a bit of as I know it from someone. Marlin Manson or something? However, this is also a nice song, melody doesn't get annoying. Also this song is filled with a more dark feeling. 9 裏切る舌 [3:30] **** The melody I did hear somewhere before, maybe some pierrot taste? But it has a nicely up beat which I've heard more times. Still GazettE has nicly adopt it and put in some own taste. The high pitch voice of Ruki in this song is also nice. I also like that they don't slow down when Ruki is singing more clean but just playing with a nice up speed which keeps the song nicely speed up. 10 Two Of A Kind [4:00] *** The start and the heavy parts of this song is a bit similar to 裏切る舌. It's like a version 2 with just slightly changes. this song doesn't really give me a wow blew away feeling. But the song is in harmony. 11 Abhor God [2:58] *** Starts as a heavy metal song, nice guitar riffs good drumming behind, nice bass vibe. good grunting screaming voice. But melody is looping up. 12 Unfinished [3:51] ***** The last song of the album, the song starts nicely fast with a more happy rock pop beat, a song which stays more easy into your head and with surly a typical gazette sound. Also a kind of different singing Ruki but that's amazing. A totally different but a nice closing song for the album. Final Thoughts, After so many years, The GazettE finally released an album I fully like. And that never happened before. In these 3 years of releasing only 2 singles and a best album. The guys surely did put something together which is easy to like a truly master piece, no more annoying breaks, slowing too much down etc . I really would like to listen more to this kind of Gazette, because this is what I always hoped they would go to. Surely people will totally dislike this album, but if you want real quality and something real nice for the ears, something you really can call music, then this album will surly give you that. Tomorrow I gonna purcahse it on itunes if available to give the band a bit extra support! Hopefully their next releases will be as so good as this one!

The stories of him talking to underaged girls, trying to hook up at shows through staff and giving out fangirl gifts to other fangirls are at this point like years, if not almost a decade old. He just generally seems like an unlikeable dude considering almost no one in Japan associates with him anymore ( at least to my knowledge ) and that's it really? When you're forced to tour Europe in the latter half of the 2010's as a career move then you're in trouble.

there're no surprises in the final thing. one thing still puzzling me is why they ended up recording the shitty recycled album intro while they had two completely valid SEs left off LUCY/ABYSS concept gigs that would've perfectly worked as an opener/outro in the context of this album.

As for why, it's easier to pirate than go out and try to find an album. When it comes to Japanese music in particular, majority of it you won't find online or in a global website that isn't being run by corporate Hitlers. (Looking at you, iTunes.) If you do find it, it'll be limited, an outdated discography and usually with a ridiculous markup or expensive shipping, why worry 'bout all that when you can just download it and be listening to the song in 2 minutes. The music label I've spent the most on is FIXT, they're indie and all their music is on Bandcamp, super easy. (Also no paying extra for FLAC which is so fucking nice.) Not only do they have music but they've also got great merch which is saddening when I try to find band shirts from JP artists I listen to I'll be fighting my way into what's effectively a small and 10 sizes below me, if I can find the merch at all. All in all, it's a segregated environment over in Japan, and to fix it they kinda need to do things on their end, and to that we can't really do much other than do our best to appreciate the small efforts they do make. All in all, that feels like I'm just rehashing previous stated points. The role this board takes in the larger scheme of things, I'd sooner have music being shared in a friendly community that's more for the focus of experiencing new things, rather than any one person trying to build themselves into a pariah. There's no elitism here, that I've seen, the general sense is that you're welcome unless you re-upload onto your shitty blogspots and only then you'll get a dodgy look. Sounds like every story I've ever heard of the London underground. It's difficult to figure the extent of the ramifications made on the community when an upload appears here, especially like stated before when you use a popular band's release as the experiment. So Gazette is popular and an upload appears quicker, they're more popular and have more sales, more money and are most likely available to be purchased internationally. A smaller band might not have the same luxuries and so what, we shouldn't share it? Seems like some sort of weird popularity policing, of which I'm not a fan. I suppose we could go to certain measures to encourage the actual purchasing of cds and goods, like we already have the Japanese itunes guide, I believe? Links to international music shops, et cetera, might help a little. I imagine to some extent it's the unknown that is a problem, be it people don't know what's available or they do know but the uncertainty of trust, the worry of international shopping, delivery. (But then again, people would probably sooner infect their computer with 20 different viruses just to get the latest Dir En Grey single, so who knows.)

I half-agree with this on multiple fronts. First off, while Koichi’s aesthetic surely brings in a hefty number of fans, that’s really underplaying Tsuzuku’s appeal both overseas and in Japan. For almost every live I went to, the spaces in front of them were what filled out first, and there would be a huge gap left in front of MiA. It’s funny, too, because it’s not like MiA isn’t good looking. But he’s not nearly as popular as Tsuzuku and Koichi, and I think a lot of that is due to his princely SNS presence and his own awkwardness with how he relates to the crowd at lives and instores. A lot of overseas fans I’ve talked to have the impression that he thinks a lot of himself (which may or may not be true, it’s not like I know him personally), and both overseas and Japanese fans poke fun at the plastic surgery angle. And as for Koichi neglecting his bass, you’re right. I’ve seen him straight up stop playing before. However, this is usually to engage the audience - and I can’t speak for anything before 2016 (anyone can feel free to correct me), but initially I found MiA to be a whole lot less engaged with the audience. He was pretty still on stage, maybe doing some cool guitar poses while he played, but generally just kind of doing his own thing. Then progressively throughout the year, he started grabbing people during Negator, he started seemingly throwing out more stuff, and just generally seemed to be trying a lot harder to captivate the audience. (Sort of too little too late? I didn’t really see him making any new fans at this point, but I digress.) Again, this is just from my own recollection, so anyone can feel free to shoot me down on that. Tsuzuku and Koichi never really had any problem with that as far as I could see, which yes, led to Koichi neglecting his bass more. He was also responsible for a lot of the merch designs, furthering playing into the aesthetic appeal box, and honestly a lot better at playing the popularity game than MiA. And then there’s Meto. Lol. He was silent and surrounded by big personalities (‘big’ for better or worse). Personally speaking I fucking adore him, and what fans he had were super devoted, but he flew under the radar for a lot of people I think.

Adding on to my last post: I can possibly give a bit of insight as someone who casually and mildly enjoys their music even though I'm not a hardcore fan like a lot of the teenage western gya that salivate over scantily clad men that the band seems to attract. Perhaps it's uncommon, but the thing about MEJIBRAY that actually gained my attention and sort of attracted me to them was MiA. Not for his looks, but for his guitar playing. Whether you love or hate MEJIBRAY or are somewhere in between those two, I think everyone can agree that MiA is a rather skilled guitarist. The fact that MiA composed almost the entire discography increased the liking I had taken towards them. The compositions were always so versatile and—as a result—I never knew what to expect for their next single or album, and that's what I liked. MEJIBRAY constantly kept me on my toes, and while I strongly dislike songs like 盈虧 (Eiki), I was able to respect the fact that the band was trying something new, not to mention that it was still somehow conjured up by the mind of the composer who also did songs that are very different in sound and ones that I'm fond of such as 砂に帰りしキミ走る (Suna ni Kaerishi Kimi Hashire) or DIVERGENCE. The same goes for their drummer: meto. I consider meto to actually be skilled in drumming and I always thought that he certainly doesn't get enough praise from fans. In addition, Tsuzuku's vocals are unmistakable as someone has mentioned. You can pick his nasal (and also sometimes extremely irritating) voice out of a crowd. In addition, he proves himself to be a decent composer, for he composed one of my favorite MEJIBRAY songs: baby crossing. Something that people constantly critique Tsuzuku for are his screams. While his screams are admittedly quite strange, I'm not sure many vocalists could imitate that strange sound in the outro of the aforementioned baby crossing. His voice is very unique and distinct although sometimes it made me want to grind my teeth when he hits obnoxiously high notes (i.e.: some live versions of 原罪の林檎/Genzai no Ringo). However, I have a suspicion that a majority of the attention to MEJIBRAY comes from their bassist: Koichi. In the comments of MVs and live videos alike, there are a myriad of comments about Koichi and how attractive they find him and/or his clothes to be. Refer to the latter portion of the first line in this post: "gya that salivate over scantily clad men". Hopefully I've made my point. I don't have anything against Koichi (although I do have my suspicions that he sometimes pretends to play bass during lives for a reason I can't figure out), but it's a shame that a band that—in my opinion—had potential gained most attention because of their wardrobe. It is visual kei, but I think too much attention went on their appearances rather than the (mostly) decent content they were producing and releasing.

I have to say their lives have at least improved since the beginning where it was eye and ear cancer... But yeah, kudos for being innovative.... 🤡 I still dislike them somehow...

That lady is so cool! I've met her a couple of times too. Last time I saw her she told me atsushi from buck tick was in her store just a couple of days earlier. I'm sure she has contacts but she probably over exaggerates a bit lmao.

Ohhh how come I missed this MBHI band xD I never listened before, I've been checking some of their songs and it's very awesome, that interesting offbeat rhythms like the song PINOCCHIO, I realize this kind of melodies that are not lineal.. but full of changes with strong and defined bass lines, it's very catchy to my ears. Thanks for the indirect recommendation XD too bad that band is disbanded, but we can enjoy RAZOR now.

I mustered the courage the finish NieR:Automata's ending E, after nearly 2 months...needless to say, I was emotionally wrecked. The whole game was downright the best gaming experience I ever had. And Final Fantasy XV finally got mod support, so that is definitely gonna add to my 100 hours of playtime

Glad to join the party again! This time I'll also try to list the highlighted tracks on each release, which makes it easier to go back on albuns that are kinda meh but have redeeming tracks

Can the mods add this to the ITMS Srubber post under Rules & Guidelines? I'm seeing an abundance of Itunes uploads with the owner data still on it. I also have an updated scrubber with the changed line of code on MEGA: https://mega.nz/#!vJYjQBjD!_TBBe3YWbIz0TVnSOX_RPfVHTQ7PxFpiXZ_B3qb_Xq8
