Slated to host a show on 4/18 at Ikebukuro EDGE (w/ 万鬼隊 / type:『seeD』/ MIDGARD / 爆烈ストーム!! & others), DAYDALA announced on March 27th that they would render ticket #1 invalid due to reselling for profit. This is not altogether unheard of -- tickets that have been resold have been banned from entry, but it's usually for bigger bands. However, it seems the holder of #1 -- we'll call her S -- was a little confused by this choice. She tweeted that she had definitely been the original purchaser of the ticket through legitimate means, and eventually posted the DMs exchanged between her and the official DAYDALA account. She was even able to provide a receipt of the purchase (these receipts do not contain the ticket number), but they opted to offer her only a refund. When S pressed them to provide proof that #1 was in fact resold, they posted screenshots from tanuki (this is historical -- it is an open secret that bands and management browse the board, but an official account posting screenshots of 1) a selling post and 2) a tanumail conversation is unheard of). The listing originally posted on tanuki claims to have tickets #1-3. The chances of this poster being S are already fairly low as her receipt shows the price of one ticket. The odds of picking up #1 and #2-3 are stacked very high against her unless she juggles multiple SMS-verified accounts and somehow obtained #1 and #2-3, or is selling on behalf of a friend who was coincidentally able to purchase #2-3. More importantly though, the proof photo doesn't show #1 at all. Additionally, the source of the tanumail screenshot is also up for debate -- unless the band was trying to purchase the resold tickets themselves (something that has been done before, but generally by larger bands b/c I don't think DAYDALA could have afforded even the original 15,000y asking price), it seems they received it as a "tip" from someone else. This really opened the floodgates -- why weren't #2 and #3 banned as well if this was the source? Why was #1 banned despite being the only one without solid evidence? Their next step was to ban all of #1-3 but provide refunds upon further discussion with S. By this point tanuki was in an absolute frothing rage. People posting "for sale" posts for numbers 4-100 in a joking attempt to get them invalidated descended as DAYDALA thread after DAYDALA thread was created. Member Haku attempted various forms of damage control on his individual twitter, but the horde was angry and wanted justice for S. Finally, they rescinded their invalidation for all three tickets and gave a heartfelt apology. Masato of meta-kei/tanuki-kei/meme-kei band kaitou sentai lined up to take a shot at DAYDALA for their slip-up: "I was tired and sleeping forever. Good morning. I had a dream that the #1 ticket I worked so hard to get was suddenly rendered invalid. Hope it doesn't come true..."

The legality of ticket reselling in Japan is up for debate after Ticket Camp (formerly the biggest ticket resale marketplace) shut down. I assume they were pressured by Johnny's because they got in legal trouble for some non-ticket related issue, but in the articles I read it mentioned the Kobe district court ruled that buying tickets for the sole purpose of resale is considered an act of fraud. Ticket Camp caused a huge backlash so it reflects poorly on large-scale bands who don't deal with resellers... but for these minor bands I think reselling everything with a number <10 is pretty much the culture of vk, lmao.

    ANIME TRASH TALK THREAD

I am quite sure I am about to offend @YuyoDrift with this, but I absolutely loathed FLCL. If one anime was ever the cause for anxiety attacks due to sensory overload, it would be this one. What a nonsensical, ugly and ill-conceived piece of garbage. Whoever today still claims this to be a 'coming-of-age' masterpiece needs to straighten themselves out; there is absolutely no story, no plot and no secretive and underlying hidden meaning in this whatsoever.

Nakigahara, Ito, Calm Envy and Sumire are my top gazette ballads. Others that are worth mentioning are Hanakotoba, ju nana sai, reila (but only because it has some great instrumental sections here and there) and I don't think it really counts as a ballad but Kyomu No Owari Hakozume No Mokushi is fantastic and catchy af. In terms of worst ballads I'm repulsed by guren. I've even learned to like cassis in the last couple of years, but I can't stand more than a minute of guren.

PV Review: Dir en grey's OBSCURE

"OBSCURE" is one of the most graphic and notorious music videos ever crafted within visual kei, catapulting the band back into the spotlight after a sudden stylistic shift sent their fans into a frenzy. It's famous for both its shock value and its strong anti-abortion stance. Abortion isn't a dinner table conversation in any country, but I've always sensed that there's an extra level of taboo attached to this topic in Japanese circles. So naturally, Dir en grey went the extra mile with some of the best CGI 2004 could buy. Is there some actual meaning behind this imagery, or is it all shock value? Watching it back now, this video isn't as extreme as a younger, more impressionable me thought. I discovered that there's mostly memorable segments, but most of the video is the band rocking out in a dingy room with bodies hanging from the ceiling. These also are the least offensive parts of the video too, unless you have a particular hate for vomit, leather, or white contact lenses. And if you do, how are you a visual kei fan? Anyway, the room resembles a hospital or a jail, although it's probably the back of an old fishing warehouse. There's nothing else to really discuss here. I tried my hardest to weave together a story that makes sense. The closest I can get is depictions of their anguish over this topic and how it's treated, which could be all they were going for. The main scenes cycle throughout the course of the video, and each of these scenes seem unconnected to the others. To sum it up: there's a demon orgy, robot cocks, a monk ripping a baby's head apart covered in ofuda screaming to the Lord of Light, a dissected half robot/woman creation on a table with a mad doctor, circus performers, depictions of the band as monsters mutilating themselves, and of course the infamous demon geisha eating the apple baby head. The meaning of some scenes are obvious: the orgy depicts sexual irresponsibility, the circus is about how the topic is treated as a joke, and the doctor and robot is supposed to resemble abortion and the act of playing god. Several elements appear in different contexts, such as the geisha and baby heads. The woman on the table is shown as not in control of her body, the doctor with the huge forceps symbolizes the invasiveness of the procedure, the ofuda which covers the monk is meant to ward off evil, and the constant depiction of monsters and demons is meant to associate abortion with bad omens. The rest of this music video is pure shock value and there's no real meaning to anything. One thing I should mention before wrapping this up is that Dir en grey threw some serious shade at men in this music video. During the orgy scenes, the women have bare faces but the men are all covered with masks. I have several interpretations of this. One parallel I immediately noticed was to (surprisingly) porn, where it's all too common for the woman's face to be visible but the man is a secondary figure, and videos are associated with the woman and not the man. On a deeper level, it's also commentary on the unequal burden pregnancy puts on women. The men literally "don't see" what happens when they orgasm (hint: the women stop enjoying the orgy and start bleeding out their mouths with pained expressions on their faces), they don't have to deal with it, and they can carry on not caring, mouths transfixed in a smile. I dug deeper into the whole mask angle, and discovered that in Japanese mythology, oni masks refer to the belief in a spirit world in which demons carry out their roles of punishing the unjust and evil, as well as spreading disease. Double dip on the whole "spreading disease" = "venereal disease" bit if you want, but I don't think it goes that far. I think Dir en grey feel that men who do this and don't care are literally demons and worse than the women, but clearly the whole eating the baby's head idea also associates certain kinds of women with demons too. The band themselves aren't exactly human either, with Shinya's deformed body and Kyo's lovely tentacle mouth, so perhaps the band thinks everyone is a demon and that everyone is responsible? As far as PV's go for visual kei bands, this one is near the top in terms of effort and production values, even for today's standards. I'm sure there's more left to be discussed. What do you think?

@anadentonetickets are all numbered in japan, so if you get between 1-10 for example, you are the first/second/tenth person allowed in the venue and almost guaranteed a front row spot (the actual fan politics behind where you get to stand are more complicated but that's the short explanation)

Nao from Kagrra, is undoubtedly high up there with J from LUNA SEA as one of the best bassist that has ever been in the scene. Listening to old Kagrra music, in particular their first four mini albums, still leave me surprised at how good he is and I have known these songs for like 15 years. His bass line are tasty.

Their concerts usually don't have MC's or encores, so they're pretty short. The oneman usually has around one hour. In west they played their 8 released songs, also the two live-only songs that they have 走馬灯 (Soutamou <- thats my favorite Kizu song so far tho, i really want them to release in a CD) and 夢(Yume) Plus they also played 傷痕 that was not released back the time. Well there's also 中庭 (Nakaniwa) that's actually their "introduction" song. So in total there was 12 songs setlist.

BLACK PIG is too much of them trying to be deathcore, but failing terribly...I love those dudes and Imitation was one of the highlights of 2017, but that was just disappointing. Generic, boring and something that western deathcore bands have been doing 10x better for years.

    International visual kei subforum

I guess after thinking about it, a subforum for overseas vk isn't necessary, cuz there's not a lot out there. As for vk and non-visual threads in the news forum - sorry for drifting offtopic -, I think it should stay as it is, it's not that hard to add the "general" tag as the prefix, or you can just, y'know, skip it if you don't care. I don't think it's necessary to segregate the two as this is a Japanese rock forum after all.

When I saw them at Tsutaya the live was really short since they only had like 8 songs at the time. I want to say like 45mins or less and there wasn't a MC at all if I remember correctly but they are doing well

Pretty sure brengun aka darkwater already made this thread not to mention they're really barely enough bands of this sort forming each year to warrant their own news section let alone an entire sub-forum. If it happens it happens I guess I don't really care either way since I won't use it anyway but just seems like unessasary clutter when we already have an international music section. We may as well start a sub-forum for international music of every genre by that logic. Like I said pointless but I have no control over changes and additions to this forum, so I voted no.

Shiroki Yuutsu is the only ballad you listed that I like. Other than that, I like Hana Kotoba (the greatest Gazette ballad), Nakigahara, and Ominous. It’s called having an opinion, like you said, but the thing is not every opinion is going to match yours, and you seem to take a lot of criticism towards the Gazette as a personal attack.

Everyone has their own opinion and here is mine: I've seen them 2 times (one time in June 2017 and 1 time in March 2018. 3 times if we count Melvel in August 2015) Instrumentally they are good and really improved over time, Nemu's voice is in my eyes the same as on the recordings. You really have to like it, and I like it because it's different than other bands and you don't hear it often. Maybe he sometimes sings them wrong/crooked but it wasn't a problem for me. I've heard so many worse vocals at lives and this isn't one of them. I also really like their looks and atmoshpere/aesthetics. At the live where I was the pillow was thrown in the audience and fans kept throwing it around (in a good way, they were playing a game with Nemu which wanted it ''back'') I got a 2-shot in March and took it with Nemu, and he was really kind and funny to me, maybe because I was a gaijin? I don't know but I was surprised by his reactions.

I get that it was all kinds of messy. But the thing is my hopes were very low from the start, it's a given in vk that re-recordings will rarely be well received be it because they're just cash grabs or in this case, a super amateur attempt at remastering a mostly underwhelming collection of songs. I don't think anyone should've expected some masterpiece in the first place (even though these are individuals who've been in the industry for 15+ years and should know better) . So personally, Traces vol. 2 met my expectations just fine. What I do wanna see though, is an interview with Kai where he openly talks about being replaced by some midi files and whose decision was it to do that.

source: MAL Arguably one of the most insane and stylistic classics, both in terms of action and storytelling. It's a weird spin on your typical coming-of-age story by the sadly defunct studio GAINAX. Now, supposedly funded by Adult Swim we have a sequel coming out sixteen years after the original. Discuss your thoughts on the original, sequel, theories, etc!
