University students: How do you deal with the feeling that all the work is overbearing
meat and 3 others reacted to inartistic for a post in a topic
This might be obvious, but for some people it helps to go to a different environment. Go to the library and use their PC instead of your laptop, if you don't already. It might help you focus in on the task and spend some hours on it. Other than that, this is how I dealt with it: freak out for a little bit, take a deep breath, then do it. -

I'm still working on that Remembering 2014 review, please wait and continue to support me onegashimasu! I also don't think I've done many, if any, trade-offs since then, knowing that I am inconsistent with following up. If it will make you feel better, I'll sign up for the next one and Cat5 can publicly tell me "NO" -

Like seriously?! So you are not a fan ? Lol I think all their live performances are amazing. Better than their studio version. One of the greatest bands in vk Which people only hate cause they are the most popular :-\ so what is your favorite band? -
2 pointsSeeing as how this thread has disturbingly outlived its purpose, and i'm now disturbed reading all of this - Thread Closed. Until further notice, trade-offs will continue to be hosted every other month, and the deadlines will be as flexible as they need to. The blacklist will certainly be enforced.

University students: How do you deal with the feeling that all the work is overbearing
plastic_rainbow and one other reacted to meat for a post in a topic
Take it from this oldie who spent too many years at higher education here ^^ Log off of MH now (after reading the rest of this of course)! In fact, put all your social media and electronic devices away until you have done the tasks you have set yourself for that day. Browsing social media and hanging out with friends should be your end of the day treat. Set yourself realistic goals to do for each day, whether it be finish reading 100 articles or writing just 250 word chunks, and manage your time and take breaks around it. Since your deadline is just round the corner, stock up with easy to make meals and make sure you eat, drink and sleep properly. It's easy to forget to do so and I often ended up not understanding why I couldn't concentrate before a deadline. Many also find writing their essays on analogue pen and paper to be more productive than typing away on a keyboard, something about the flexibility of pen and paper meant you actually spend less time procrastinating and less likely to be distracted by cat videos on YT. You might also consider going analogue with your practice interviews too. Roleplay and read your script to yourself loudly (with or without an audience), to help you familiarise with possible answers and build confidence along the way. I wish you all the best! -

Bangya Hacks! (Advice for Attending VK Lives)
appl- and one other reacted to Kiryu999 for a post in a topic
Japanese gyas come to vk gigs all dressed up with giant heels but just before the show is about to start they put on crocs or slip on and they come with a lot of bags. Nobody is checking what's inside, I came with water bottle inside a plastic bag and the staff didn't notice (and probably don't care) You'll get a drink ticket when you get to the doors so no need to bring something to drink actually Note that I went only to vk gigs in really small live houses, idk if it's the same in bigger venues -

plastic_rainbow and one other reacted to platy for a post in a topic
Time management is your best friend, please, please learn to start your assignments earlier. We got this advice from everyone and most people just brushed it off but it's seriously a life saver. You'll avoid so many meltdowns and so much stress. But since you're already in the middle of the mess here's some overall advice. -Take breaks OUTSIDE. I don't mean minimise the essay window and go browse Facebook. I mean go for a walk. It'll really help clear your head. -Make a realistic list of what you need to do. Make lists of everything. Break your assignments in step by step instructions. What do you need to do, what will you discuss, How will you get there, how long it might take to write it out, how long editing will take, etc. -Reward yourself. Okay so you managed to write three paragraphs. Time to eat a chocolate or whatever you like doing. -Humans can only focus productively for like 15 mins average. So take regular breaks when writing so you don't burn your brain out. -Talk to people. They're most definitely going through the same thing as you. -But also... Put your social media away. This shit is time consuming as fuck. How will you make this deadline if you're browsing the Facebook or instagram feed every 2 minutes? Answer: you won't. Restrain yourself from distractions. There is software like ColdTurkey that you can install on your computer and it'll block a bunch of websites so you'll have to focus on your work. Trust me, suddenly you'll have a lot more time to do stuff. -Don't be too harsh on yourself. Drowning in alcohol will only make your uni life worse when all you need to do is just prioritise certain things and your life will be a lot easier. Destroying yourself isn't funny. - Most importantly!! Work smarter not harder. It's better if you do half an hour of pure essay writing and then take a break than if you do an hour of writing distracted by social media, games. Etc. I was by no means a perfect student, I just managed to survive a *little* better because in my final semester I finally applied some of these tips to my daily routine. Better late than never. -

1 pointYup cause their live performances are great so tell me why I have to call you a fan of them. U don't like their live performances mean u hate ruki's voice . Aoi and uruha music. Reita's Bass and Kai drums. It means u don't like their songs and not appreciating their efforts like for god sake their deux live performance is so similar to the studio version. The energy they put on every live performance. Bands are disbanding most of the time because people don't appreciate their efforts. :-\ Tell me how do u even like the gazette then ?

1 pointHi Can you name your top 5 favorite live performances from gazette? And explain why they are your favorite Mine are 1-wakaremichi From their 10th anniversary I like how they were about to cry when the audience started to sing. I felt that they were happy to see how much success they have achieved so far. 2- taion The whole performance was mind blowing. Everything about it was perfect. 3- deux My favorite on dogma his last scream was like he never screamed before . I like how aoi was so sensual ( I don't know if it's the right word to describe his moves) 4- dim scene I like the whole performance and ruki's voice in this live was amazing 5- moon I know it's weird and old but I like it more than reila. Ruki's old voice is perfect for this song. What about you ? ♡ I wanna know your favorite live performances from them.

1 pointThat's the problem I have with most portable players as well. I used to use the iPod Classic 160GB and have switched to Cowon Plenue D for better sound and more flexible storage. The Plenue D has an internal storage of 32GB but you can stick a microSD of any size on top. So potentially you can have 288GB (internal 32GB + external 256GB)

1 pointI know some fangirls are only paying attention to how they look more than their music . 40 years of age is not old I know what I mean beauty doesn't last forever but what is going to last forever is their songs and music imo. + not all of fans like them only because of their looks.
-
1 pointTime management is your friend, the better you can arrange your time to approach your work in a way that works for you, the less stress you'll deal with when deadlines come I do this by starting on work several weeks before its due, and working in bits and pieces until the week its due, then i spend more time. Personally, i prefer to do things one by one, so this sometimes this approach gets annoying, but when i leave enough time its all okay. Basically work to figure out an approach that works for you, but the main key is leaving a loooooot of time.

The general Metal discussion thread
Laurence02 reacted to Bear for a post in a topic
I totally recommend Woods of Desolation. Both old and new, if you're into this kind of music. For the two first albums the music itself and the melodies aren't too different, but difference in the production makes them into two very different beasts. I prefer the older, more lo-fi and hazy material myself, but I am one of few as far as I know. The last album, As the Stars, was a bit more in the direction of post-black metal with a stronger shoegaze and post-rock feeling. A bit more Alcest-esque. He also played bass on Austere's masterpiece "To Lay like Old Ashes". I'll glady recommend Forest Mysticism and Grey Waters too. Forest Mysticism is very similar to Woods of Desolation and Grey Waters is more depressive rock, influenced by Katatonia's later albums and Amesoeurs. Woods of Desolation's "Toward the Depths" and "Sorh" have been my go-to albums for foggy days alongside Negură Bunget's "'n crugu bradului" and "Om". I always play these albums when I'm walking around in the fog. No exception. -

Piracy's role in visual kei
Brandon reacted to chemicalpictures for a post in a topic
To begin, we must pleeease understand that the correlation of piracy = loss of a sale is FALSE. People pirating releases ARE NOT making musicians lose money, period. If people hadn't shared, I don't know, batsu game's latest release, I would NOT buy it. I would simply go on without listening to it, because I don't care enough for them to go out of my way to buy a physical copy of something that would cost me 3 USD if it was an itunes release (btw the single sucks). This is true to 95% of the vk listeners, and has been widely discussed in sample pools much larger than a niche japanese music scene, like videogames for example. People buy what they like, period. If you do not let them at least try, why the hell should they buy your music? That being said, people vastly, VASTLY overestimates the importance of western fandom to the scene. We are not the main target, we are not their main income source, the music isn't made for us. We are a plus in the scene, and every single release a westerner fan buys, it's an EXTRA income for the band. They are not counting with our money, people gotta understand that most of the bands simply don't care if we are listening to them or not, as long as their onemans are filled with japanese girls doing dance steps at their songs. Very few bands have the desire for more international exposure, and if that's the case, they sure have to adapt to our ways, as we are not obliged to accept their 90's thinking in the age of streaming. IF japanese fans started pirating instead of buying, THEN we would have a problem. Music is dogs eating dogs everywhere in the world, why would be different for japanese boys in make up? Bands that are actually good, or at least are able to gather interest in their music will flourish, no matter what. People fail to understand that the scene is small because of it's characteristics, because boys dressing like girls and shredding guitars is niche and most importantly, it's foundation is what holds it back. No ammount of western pirates will make or break a band, period. fun fact, UNiTE. shared most of their discography on Spotify, I don't know if it is restricted in japan (which would be a smart thing to do). Yeah they are bigger than most vk acts around, but that does show they are not following the outdated tunneled vision most bands are, and see us as what we are. Extra income, if they get to book a concert here and there, fine! If not, fine aswell, their focus is where it should be, their growth in Japan, without closing their doors to us, the outsiders. -
