    #107: Vexent - VICTIM

Tracklist: 01.control 02.哀なんて青春。(ai nante seishun) 03.PSYCHOPATH 04.ARTERY -album ver- 05.drop 06.WELCOME TO THE DARKNESS 07.Greed 08.THE FATES 09.紫苑(shion) 10.depth 11.オメガ(omega) -album ver- 12.care -album ver- I had a lot of high expectations for this album, but sadly the only victim here is the listener. Vexent's VICTIM has a lot of things going for it, with a decent track list and previously released songs, but despite all that, this album is nothing special. The album begins with an intro track “control” that transitions into the leading track “哀なんて青春。(ai nante seishun)”, and from the get go I wasn’t a fan of the way they edited the tracks. “哀なんて青春。(ai nante seishun)”, has two major flaws: the beginning and the bridge to the last chorus. The song begins with a 25-second sample of the children’s song "Do Your Ears Hang Low?"; the vocalist Mako interrupts with a powerful scream, and kicks off the track. I can see what Vexent was trying to do, but after the first few listens the “Do Your Ears Hang Low?” segment gets tedious. Having to sit through that bit twice really ruins the song. The second major flaw comes after the guitar solo during the bridge. Once again, we get another “Do Your Ears Hang Low” segment. Not only does this make the song lose traction, but it feels so odd in such a fast and heavy song. “哀なんて青春。(ai nante seishun)” is a banger of a song but these two sections really ruin it for me. Moving down the track list we reach “Psychopath” one of the new tracks and it’s a pretty solid song. Vexent keeps the energetic vibe going with some solid riffs and good headbanging material. The next track is “Artery” and this track was re-recorded, or in this case destroyed. The song sounds similar to the original, except everything sounds flat. The song has no bass, no inspiration, the audio is unbearable, and for whatever reason they also distorted the crash on the drums. They should have just used the original version of “Artery” and saved themselves the hassle of destroying the song. Next, we have “drop", an intro for the previously released single “WELCOME TO THE DARKNESS”. Despite “drop” being a transitional track it's pretty well done and matches the vibe that “WELCOME TO THE DARKNESS” already brings. Thankfully “WELCOME TO THE DARKNESS” was kept as it was originally released, a fun party song. Up next, we have the new track “Greed” and this was a tough one to grade. I’m on the fence with this one; it's an okay song but not something I could find myself listening to repeatedly. It’s catchy, but I feel like the song needed to be more energetic from Mako’s part. He has a powerful voice, but lets it go to waste on this one. The previously released single “THE FATES” makes an appearance and really adds a punch to this album. This song needs more praise because it really showcases Vexent’s abilities. The transition between the solo and final chorus was brilliantly made and felt new and fresh. Maybe they were trying to do something similar in the lead track “哀なんて青春。(ai nante seishun)”, but failed miserably. “THE FATES” shows us the proper way to do it. With its ominous vibe and Mako’s screams, it really has all the pieces for a great song. As the album gets closer to the end, “紫苑(shion)”, a previously released single, shows us Vexent’s ballad abilities. It’s a one of a kind song because it’s the first ballad we’ve seen come from Vexent. The song clocks in at 6 minutes and 25 seconds, which is a lengthy song but a nice fit into Vexent’s work. They manage to add their own unique style into this ballad and it really doesn’t come off as bland or forced. The last new song, “depth”, is one of the standouts from the album. Vexent brings an emotional track singing from a place of hopelessness. The melody in the background and Mako’s voice is filled with despair as he sings lines like 'All saints shall die', -really build a powerful track. The song name “depth” fits well as it feels like Mako is singing from a dark place somewhere down below, stranded and miserable. An amazing song and a big surprise. Lets take a trip back to the start, “オメガ(omega)” takes us back to where it all began. I don’t mean that because it's Vexent’s first single, I mean even way further back, like before they mixed and mastered the song because the audio is horrible. Everything is flat and the drums have that ugly distortion on them again. I really don’t understand why they even bothered to include the song. It's horrible. The final track was beautifully crafted; it's a re-recording of "care", only this time it's a piano version. Vexent ends this album on a positive note. "care" originally was a more energetic song, but to my surprise it works well as a piano piece. Mako sings 'Love yourself' throughout the song, bringing a nice ending to this album. This album was a roller-coaster. it had its up and downs and really felt off at times. As much as I love Vexent, I know they can do so much better. Poor decisions is what really ruined this album for me. The editing and mixing of songs really hurt this album. The good points for this album were the previously released songs. And the few stand outs really aren't enough to save this album. Track Scores: 01. control & 02. 哀なんて青春。(ai nante seishun) 4/5 03. PSYCHOPATH 2.5/5 04. ARTERY -album ver- 0/5 05. drop & 06. There was another band called ダリ as well around the time the UNDER CODE band started, though they did not last very long. The vocalist and guitarist went on to form KAMELEO. If this is the UNDER CODE Dali, though, I find it interesting that they've reverted back to their name in katakana and not romaji. The logo for their OHP does have a similar placement of the characters, compared to Dali's original logo, though, with ダ being slightly higher than リ. Summoning @inartistic!

Thing is, those guys are way above average musicians but the majority of their output is mediocre at best. They have set up all time high expectations, and most of the time failed to deliver (except for the mindblowing Inhale)... This ain't bad for your regular half baked vk act, but for a superstar team like this one is disappointing, to say the least.

I love DELUHI to pieces and listening to FED makes me so upset because it is still Leda; Sujk is also there but somehow nothing sounds as good? I don't expect Leda to put out the same things he did almost 10 years ago but like @chemicalpicturessaid, it is average at best. The guitar solo is actually very nice but I just can't get behind this band fully yet. Keita also doesn't possess the greatest voice imo, which perhaps also adds to the bundle. I loved Disgracer from their previous ep, and I find that's the one song I keep getting back to bc it just sounds so different and electric and just solid af. Still ain't giving up hope tho.

I think in some capacity, I've convinced myself that if I can care about all of the world's problems, even ones I am not even going to remotely be able to fix or help with, that when I need it most, the world will care about me back. Chris and I get into fights about that all the time. I want to fix the world, he's content with acknowledging most people in life are inherently evil and you need to be on guard.

My question to you (and a totally honest one) is why do you care? This person has no connection to the people most important to you in your life right now. It doesn't sound like she ever did anything for you. I doubt anyone you know right now knows her on a more personal level than you. I'd put money on you thinking about this situation positively more than she's thought about you positively ever. I'm missing the connection between thinking positively/negatively about this situation and its effect on you. There is merit in reflecting on this situation and deciding to be the bigger person. There's even more merit in absolving yourself of this mental load. Toxicity can remain on the brain long after you remove the source of toxicity from your life, much like there's still poison in your system long after you stop chugging bleach. It can metastasize into all sorts of different forms, take root in all sorts of insecurities, and often make you question yourself...much like a toxic person would themselves. I blame social media for this one; when everyone's thoughts are on display for everyone else to read, the line between personal thoughts and hive mind thoughts has been blurred. It's hard to distinguish personal thoughts from ones that have been planted in your head, influenced by the ideals of someone else, and when the equations don't add up the first emotion through the gates is self-doubt. I often find myself policing my thoughts to appease a hive mind composed of my own opinions, but no matter how many trains of thought I've chased, the conclusions I come to are the same: So what? What do you get from being the bigger person? What do you get from being the smaller person? Who would congratulate you for your actions without you recounting some stories? What do you get by being happy for her? Sad for her? Indifferent for her? My answers to you would be nothing, nein, no one, nada, and zilch respectively. If even one of the answers were anything else, I could see merit in thinking about this situation. If all roads lead to the same place, pick the path of least resistance. Save yourself the personal anguish, grief, and doubt.

    Earphones/Headphones

Aside from my SONY MDR1000x with the built-in amp turned off, I'm trying to test out some Audio Technica (ATH-M50X) Headphones that I forgot I had lol but they are entry-level sounding compared to a 600 series from Sennheiser. Something that recently caught my interest was this. https://www.massdrop.com/buy/massdrop-x-sennheiser-hd-58x-jubilee-headphones Apparently these are going to go for $150, which is an AMAZING deal for entry-level Sennheiser Headphones. What makes this deal even more tempting is the use of 150-ohm drivers (the same drivers that the NEW HD660 S use), with tuned settings to compensate the much-lowered price tag, they are homage to the HD580 headphones from the 90's, which created the then legendary 600 series audiophiles have come to love. I'm going to wait until release day to order, with hopes that they live up to the hype that a couple reviewers have recently posted about them. Apparently they are HD600-like, with less treble, and much lower bass, almost disappointing bass. Sennheiser is apparently still in the works on these, and that they hope to fix this lower frequency issue in order to address and improve the bass to the HD58x. Edit: I forgot to mention that I upgraded my Schiit Audio Setup (also known as a Schiit Stack (Schiit Magni + Schiit Modi)), as the new Magni 3 just came out, and I gotta say it sounds about the same lol. I will test the HD58x when I get my hands on them and see how these do under the Amp/DAC from Schiit.

    Your First Favorite VK Band

I freaking loved An Cafe in 2008. I don't even know how I found out about them, but I remember I bought a magazine that had bands interview and one of the bands from that month's publication was An Cafe and at first I thought they were...cute girls XD. And then I looked them on the internet and got so into them, I started watching a lot of videos and had all the discography and basically that's how I found out that all the anime songs I've been listening until then were from the "jrock" genre XD.

They are doing pretty well. Not just their oneman crowd but the amount of fans who go to event lives have increased a lot since I first started going (there used to be only about 10 or so people for them at event lives, sometimes less) . They also often play last or second to last at event lives now. What I mean is some of my friends and acquaintances who have been going to see them since the first oneman, like me, or before that have been going less or just have stopped going altogether so you might see the DVD or other rares pop up on Twitter or auction sites. People stop following bands at any time for any reason they may have. There isn't any sort of mass exodus going on. Some people are just conflicted about where the band is going and that happens with all bands. Nah they're not breaking up any time soon. They members are all super close friends, their manager is like the chillest person on the planet and they have plenty of dedicated fans who throw money at them.

The majority of the japanese fans are indeed girls/women, that being said - there still exists male fans. They're called ギャ男 (gyao, slang for bangya + boy). I have some japanese gyao friends who I've been to lives with and it's usually very fun. Of course it all depends on the band as well, I've never seen nokubura live but from what I've heard they have a big male audience for a vk band (probably because of their heavy music), when I attended a Avelcain boys only live one of my gyao friends told me most guys there was gay (he's gay himself as well), and for some reason I think that's the case a lot of the time. Also the fact that boys only live exists proves that there is indeed male fans. But to answer your question: yes, most japanese men (and women) dislike visual kei. It's a small and niched scene.
  46. 1 point

Do Japanese men dislike visual kei?

The band members market themselves for women. It's like the female idol industry, I went to an idol live once and there were only men watching, not a female in sight apart from the group performing. Hot men in make up who seem readily available = mostly female fans Cute girls who seems readily available = pretty much just dude fans Metal/rock/etc. attracts all kinds of people in the west, but these niche groups in Japan (VK & Idols) market themselves in such a way that I think it 'segregates' who can enjoy the group to the fullest. (Lives, taking part in the community, instore events, etc.)

about gazette. i don't hate the people. i am annoyed about the adolescence /weebo fangirlism these fandoms tend to have and the complete lack of interest and knowledge of other bands. i can't follow them in tumblr etc and i don't want to talk to them because a majority tends to posts 231e342312321423 pages of how uruha touched aoi's shoulder ...from a distance... with his eyes... and OMFG the yaoi. and another 33322909-0 pages of fangirlism that i don't care about because i don't find attractive the members. i don't see how i could talk with a person who only like gazette etc and haven't a clue at all about other small bands.or bands that i like. they tend to do that. i mean NOT everyone.they are always exceptions. just saying a lot of people. i prefer lycaon fans etc for example even if i don't listen to them. they seem to know about more bands and have more interesting comments

I don't care about the visuals in VK: I say this is an unpopular opinion because I've been told countless times that it's impossible not to care about the visuals and anyone that says that is lying and on and on. But I don't and I never have. I have some kind of sick attraction to the music itself, but I don't give a flying fuck about the band's appearance and would prefer they didn't look so ridiculous if I had a choice, just so it'd be less embarrassing to point them out to people.
