I second @qotkare: XAA-XAA disbanding. I don't want them to but I see it happening in the second half of the year, unfortunately. Also: - If XAA-XAA doesn't disband before September: XAA-XAA/DADAROMA twoman tour #3. - Whenever XAA-XAA disbands: Kazuki and Reiya will form a new band. - DEZERT will continue to suck MUCC dick and release crap. - Kizu will have a oneman either at Akasaka Blitz or Tsutaya O-EAST. - JILUKA will have their 6th official oneman become their 11th or 12th actual oneman. - DADAROMA will continue to pump out releases of varying quality in short intervals. - There will be some sort of drama related to 0.1g no Gosan. - Mejibray will be done for good as of the 22nd. Maybe not next year but in 2019 Tsuzuku and Koichi will form a new band. - Some ex-bandman will open a cat cafe.

this, and - i can't see initial'L doing much more with their basic ass looks and lamestream pop music... so, disbandment? or a VERY slow year... tbh, i'd like to see satoshi in a solo project or in another band - the gazette's new album will leave me dead in a ditch because it'll hopefully be around as heavy/good as dogma was - more brootal-kei qeddeshit copies will start popping up? we have DELUCIDE now, let's see how they fare in 2018...

    ☆2018 Predictions☆

Whew! 2017 just about flew by~! There were a lot of hiccups, a buttload of disbandment announcements, and even fewer bands that actually left their own impact this year. I admit this year wasn't as impressive for jrock as a whole, but that doesn't mean the cool stuff should be left out either! I mean, Sui (ex-Megaromania~Lin) making an epic return as a solo artist? MUCC's release frenzy? Marco going all out?! Virge actually being awesome? Yass! What do you think 2018 will have in store for visual kei? Some memorable newcomers? Veterans coming back stronger than ever? Even more shocking disbandments?! (well that's a given) Or maybe, some better luck musicwise??? Get out your shiny crystal balls ;3 and voice your predictions below!

    - MUCC will drop a new release two days after they go back from hiatus and go on a European tour - Kizu will release an album and it's gonna be great but not extraordinary - Xaa Xaa disbandment/hiatus (I hope not but they've had their share of struggles this year) - or just release some very mediocre singles before getting their shit together? - Some DEZERT-related drama - seems like the industry is expecting a lot of them these days - or they'll just release a half-assed album - or the best album in the history of vkei lol - Yoshiki will step up his social media celebrity game and start a vlogging channel

    ~2017 predictions~

7/11 - I would have rather gotten a pathetic utaboomy-ish DEG single than the announcement for VESTIGE OF ASSES, but at least they're [supposedly] working on a new album, sooo... - R指定 was technically 2 singles and a mini album - lynch. was only a mini, but still a great release, and honestly much better than BLØØD THIRSTY CREATURE - Plastic Tree did release a single, but it actually sounded different for once - I'm giving DEZERT points being consistent and releasing awesome shit, even though they just did one single and one live-dist track, but おやすみ is probably the most beautiful song released this entire year.

Tsuzuku and Koichi came out painted black. There was no intro, the curtains opened and they were already standing silently in place until the first song started. When Tsuzuku went down, Koichi ran to Tsuzuku to check on him. Then Koichi stepped in front of him and flashed the middle finger, and he also kept holding up three fingers to show everyone until the curtain closed. Meto was also crying (at least that’s what I heard, I was honestly too caught up watching Tsuzuku and Koichi), Mia was trying to keep things together and kept playing until the end. There’s apparently going to be a DVD of this and it’s going to be 6,000 yen which is kind of insane for 14 songs. I really don’t know if they’ll keep that ending on it or not.

Do Japanese men dislike visual kei?

Every live I've ever seen of a visual kei show has had only females in the crowd. I don't think I've ever seen a male in the crowd. Why is that? Are men embarrassed to be seen at those types of shows or is there some cultural reason behind it? I can kind of understand for some acts but the same is true even for a lot of the heavy metal vk concerts too. Is visual kei not "real metal" for them or something? When I went to see The Gazette when they toured the U.S. there were both men and women in the crowds. Maybe the men prefer to stay in the back of the crowds and that's why it seems to skewed?

I've been watching these recent live videos (the ones with Chinese subs) for weeks now and they are SO GOOD! The TONIGHT performance from this same live is killer as well. Also fell in love with another song from A WILL, this time 銀ノ月, which I never really cared about. Ryuichi in particular makes it so good.

Do Japanese men dislike visual kei?

I also want to add that girls that like VK are usually not seen as "desirable" by your average Japanese guy. The general image of a VK fan is crazy, mentally unstable, unemployed, and in some cases, someone who works in the mizushobai (hostess, escort, or sexual service) business. And to some extent, these stereotypes are not completely off as there are a lot of fans who cut their wrists, were/are mentally unstable, were/are involved in mizushobai because they can't hold down a regular job and/or doing mizushobai allows the to go to lives and make enough money to support their hobbies/lifestyle. I feel like a lot of the gyao fans either a.) were/are VK fans from a young age, b.)were/are particularly interested in rock or the history of rock and this particular scene, c.) were/are involved in alternative punk or goth fashion and the two kind of go hand in hand, d.) a mix or all of the above. You also have the instance of say, a band like Golden Bomber, where the members were originally hosts/involved in the mizushobai business before debuting in the VK scene, although I'd say this extends more to members of VK bands than their gyao fans. Some gyao fans be looking pretty rough sometimes...

Do Japanese men dislike visual kei?

As a Japanese who lived in Japan for 1/3 of my life, I'll have to say it's not that Japanese men dislike it but it's BY FAR more popular amongst girls. The reason being is Japan is quite narrow minded (yeah hard to believe isn't it?) when it comes to a persons appearance or interests...and VK is generally classified as overboard. Guys just won't be driven to the extent where they want to be in a Vkei band or dress up VK outside just because they're interested . Not to mention (I guess this applies for all countries but) it's 100% understandable that a straight guy feels off seeing guys in heavy makeup and flashy clothes singing heavy music. Therefore it's natural that the majority of Japanese fans are girls...in fact I don't have a single Japanese guy friend that's very into VK in comparison to 30+ girls. I guess in the end the music itself is likeable, but guys who like it are well aware of the negative views they recieve so they don't even bother with anything VK. Perhaps if the music was more mainstream like in the 90s/early 2000s then the fanbase would be more even amongst genders.
  45. 1 point
This. That shit is WEIRD AF. To be honest I find any kind of extreme fandom weird and kinda childish. Not that it's an exclusivity of fans of japanese stuff, but they sure get top scores at it. It can't be that healthy to dedicate so much money, energy and time to a hobby like that... But yeah, the gya culture is indeed what sustains the VK environment. But that's just because VK does not have a clearly defined purpose nowadays. The movement was created with an idea that made sense at the time, to create a space for expression, to counter the mainstream culture of the time, and it was necessary. It happened all over the world, there was Punk, Glam, Tropicalia, each with its differences, but it was there. You can bet X, Luna Sea, Kuroyume are bands with 50/50 fans. Today, there's no need for that. What does VK bring to the table? What's the message in 2017? There's none, it's a scene that exists sorely to fuel these girls/fans idealizations and desires, in exchange of their money. So those foundations are so set in stone, I don't really see it changing at all.

It's been a while since anyone has posted here so I thought I'd do some updates about the band. Since August they've been playing a new song called 現実逃避癖 (genjitsu touhi kuse). You can see it in the first video Mihi posted on 8/20. It's a mosh song. Lots of fun. They've also been playing a song called 最低最悪だ since October and last week they introduced another new song. No one is really sure about the title except that it has ヒステリック (hysteric) in it. They announced two Valentines' Day onemans in February - one in Tokyo (2/8 at Shibuya Rex) and one in Osaka (2/14 at Osaka Ruido). They've only had one Tokyo oneman since they started so I'm pretty excited about that. They also have a oneman at Osaka Rudio coming up on 12/21. My guess is that there will be another CD release then based on their release pattern thus far. They're selling t-shirts and can badges at buppan now. They also made a short promo video for ガチメンヘラ (gachi menhera) Also unrelated but I'm downsizing my cheki collection. If anyone wants cheki (all members) send me a PM.

    ~2017 predictions~

I feel like 2017 is going to be shit and I'm gonna cry a lot but whatever. Don't have many predictions because I haven't been keeping up with much. GOTCHAROCKA go on a hiatus or disband near the later end of 2017 (I will fall into crippling depression because of this) sukekiyo is going to snatch my edges again with a new release. So will THE NOVEMEBERS Dir En Grey will go on hiatus??? Maybe?? Pentagon will continue to disappoint me (and probably go major) Arlequin will come out with another bomb album Initial L will be okay, but they won't have as much popularity as they previously had MEJIBRAY will continue to vomit out releases near the first half of the year, then lose steam (and I will still continue to dislike them) Someone else is going to pass away (let's hope not) KISAKI COMES BACK Purple Stone gets a HUGE boost in popularity Another band will come out of nowhere and rock and everyone's socks off An AINS band will disband
