    "Lost" J-Music Media

Not sure if there's ever been a thread about this before or not, nothing showed up when I searched for it, sooo..... I made this thread as an attempt to both index and discuss any and all kinds of 'lost' media from the Japanese music sphere. I'm talking here about albums/minis/singles that were announced, perhaps even partially recorded but ultimately never released (a la Deftones' Eros or the 'legendary' X-Japan album that's been in purgatory for years), songs bands have been performing live but never got to record before they disbanded, material that seems to simply have vanished without a trace altogether... That sort of stuff. This isn't just limited to the VK scene, anything goes. I'll bring up just a couple of examples to kick things off: - My Bacteria Heat Island had a couple of songs that were often performed live, but full studio versions were never released. The track my head bursting open call a doctor is an example of one of those songs that (at least to my knowledge) never actually got a 'proper' release. - Short-lived Angura supergroup Cuckoo (featuring Ao Sakurai, Sharaku and Bucchi) never released more than a single three-track single before ultimately disbanding, but I remember seeing a live report of one of their shows floating around which showed that they played a whole bunch of other songs that never ended up getting released. - Shoegaze/indie/whatever you wanna call them-band Coaltar of the Deepers teased a new EP titled 'Rabbit EP' YEARS ago... According to statements by frontman Narasaki, it was set to be released within 12 months... back in 2013. Four years later and there's still no word. - Munimuni's DOGUU ALBUM was the musical equivalent to vaporware for a while, but i THINK it finally came out this year, proving that little miracles may still possibly exist.

I've posted this around a bit, but this thread seems as good as any to post it again. Around the time that Grieva started, they were playing a mysterious song called "THE Suicide☆$HOW TIME". As far as I know, this hit the cutting room floor near the end of December 2012 and was never played again or officially recorded. Since Grieva released their final album, I think it's safe to say that it'll forever stay in the vaults. The only record we have of it beyond some old setlists was a recording I made at what was possibly the last live it was performed. I can kinda see why they decided to drop this thinly-veiled Child Prey rip-off, but nevertheless it was a pretty interesting piece of the band's history. Outside of Grieva, I've got a bit of info with... no real info actually XD Last year I had received some uncirculated demo CDs from the bands Orphee, Medical Trance Peach and Romance For~. Each of these contained 5-6 unreleased songs and (as far as I can guess from how they looked) came from a former(?) employee of a recording studio. There was no tracklists or other info on these beyond recording dates on the Romance For CD(1999.03.15~1999.04.15). Doesn't really reveal a lot, but it's still really interesting to see that each of these bands were in the studio recording a minialbum's worth of songs that would never end up being released.

    hi there!

Hi! I've been lurking on the forums for a few months now so I finally thought it was time to make an account! I'm from the U.S. but I've been living in Japan for a little over a year now (and I'm hoping to stay here for a long time tbh!) I live in the Kansai area, so I go to mostly Osaka lives. I didn't start listening to Vkei until I moved to Japan so I'm very much a newbie in terms of even knowing the names of bands. (other than of course the huge bands everyone knows) Right now I'm following Golden Bomber, Kiryuu, Sick2, and Tensai. I like a lot of Jpop and Jrock music too like TMR, Daoko, Unison Square Garden, and Wanima. I don't have a lot of friends who like to going concerts so feel free to contact me if you're ever in Osaka!! (I also do sometimes nightbus to Tokyo for lives)

Shinjuku Gewalt is another band that has a couple of songs that were either never properly recorded or perhaps only available as live dist. releases that never saw the light of day on the web. There's one called Daedalus or smth like that which I've only ever heard a live bootleg of

Cool thread idea! The only thing that comes to mind (besides some that you already mentioned) is the almost-released last MALICE MIZER album which would have been their first full-length release with Klaha officially as a full-time member, as opposed to 薔薇の聖堂 where he was only credited as one of the guest vocalists. If memory serves me correctly there might have even been a tentative tracklist for the album that made its way to CDJapan's site but then got quickly pulled and the band went on eternal hiatus and that was the end of that I guess. Would have been interesting to see/hear what they could have done on a full album in the style of Gardenia, Beast of Blood, etc.

MBHI had several unreleased songs, although most/all of them featured on their one live DVD release. They put a couple of short demos on YouTube around the time they started activity but several of those were never properly recorded. Interestingly though, one of them was a full song, it was just never released elsewhere: 21st century boy. Recently disbanded MALISEND also played their full discography at their final live which I was able to attend, which included at least 3 unreleased songs (including the various free distributions). I directly contacted them upon disbandment inquiring about purchasing these unreleased tracks as at least some of them had demos on Youtube, but they informed me that no properly recorded versions had ever been made, so I wasn't able to get hold of them. Going back to DDRM and KIDS WAR, Yoshiatsu's previous band Crazy Shampoo also had a couple of songs they often performed live but never saw official releases. After extensive research, it appears they had live distributions a long time ago, but since I've never seen them for sale either in used stores or at auction/Mercari, I consider them to be basically 'lost' songs. (Will pay for them if anyone has them though). The ones that immediately come to mind are 'Guernica' and 'Battou'. And on a personal sob story, I have always deeply regretted missing Signal's last live due to my flight being just two days later, and as a result will pay handsomely for a copy of their last single 'Crossing fate' which has yet to even see the digital light of day.

Some early LUNA SEA songs that never was recorded: ・DREAM IS OVER ・PERIOD ・JUNKY-もう死んだふりさせない- ・CONCLUSION ・FEELING ・Fly ・第三の言葉 ・SINFUL SONG btw ・JUNKY-もう死んだふりさせない- is the only LUNA SEA song I know of where INORAN plays the solo instead of Sugizo, possibly because it was so early and SGZ had joined fairly recently.

    hi there!

Thanks so much! I went to a music festival with my friend actually to see TMR, and Golden Bomber was also there. I'd heard of visual kei but I never really got into it but seeing GB on stage, I instantly fell in love with them. Also, we were in a row with a bunch of GB-gyas who were all doing the furi and headbanging which was something I'd never seen before! And even though they're not really very visual kei by most people's standards, they're my first love and they mean a lot to me! After that, I slowly starting getting into other bands and I saw Kiryu for the first time last July in my prefecture's tiny livehouse which was awesome and now I'm addicted to them too! But definitely go see Sick2 if you have the chance! Sick2 puts on a really fun performance. They have some of the most complicated furi of any band I've ever seen so make sure you study their Youtube videos so you don't get lost!

Why the hell are they using Deathmetal/deathcore font for their name when his lows are weak and lukewarm. His highs are nice but missing that killer edge They have no punch and this p**** s*** is no Nocturnal Bloodlust - spear. NB also used common deathcore riffage and clean singing but at least they had something going for that one song, but deviloof is str8 donkeybutt and lame. Aleast Hiro garbarge self managed to balance the vocals. ROTFL at the thought of them in comparison to Actual brutal deathcore bands who do mix it up track to track as much or more then this band. VK death/core should just be left to Re:dis, sadie, the piass. Coderebirth and lustknot. could pull it off. Because GxSxD, INFERNAL REVULSION, and Vomit Remnants wash them. scratch that, they would drag their school boy butts to hell and back. they arnt serious either unlike death i am. i bet they're genre on itunes is pop like other "hard" vk bands lmao. VK is a place where you can pop metal, pop hard rock, be harsh but still totally kawaii.

CodeRebirth were severely underrated - their final album release is one of my favourite albums, period. I really hope Katsuya can find a strong vocalist to fit his djent-like compositions, but they need to have solid cleans too (imo too many djent bands are either purely instrumental or have only a screamer on vocals). Whatever happened to that vocalist from aim (pre-GALEYD)? If he returned to the music scene I think he would be a good fit.

His last solo EP "misanthropy" is really fuckin' great ! Somehow I just love his works , I will keep an eye on this ! I really expect he can keep his band to perform as a metalcore or deathcore band which is same as what he did. And hope his band can find a sick vocal who can represent the disgusting sounds ! I hope it will be a promissing band !

    ヴァージュ (Virge)

UGH So biased but my favorite bandmen is Aru! God I was just in love when he came out to the stage haha but he's so far in the back so I couldn't really see him just all Ryo haha. Anywho Ikebukuro Black Hole Live - [2017.10.21] So I have been to a few lives but not so many, I mean I've only seen the Gazette twice, once here and in America and now Virge and I would have to say Virge did it better. I don't know if it was because it was such a small live and everything felt so intimate but like the ambiance from start to finish was just spectacular. I guess the only thing that my friend and I did notice was that the songs seemed to run into each other and more often then not we thought to ourselves like wait are they replaying that one song from before or is this different.... But with all the dancing and headbanging there was really no time for talking haha. They started it off with the full New PV of 夜想 (Yasou) where everyone bent down so everyone could see the screen and we watched the full PV which had to be about 5 mins long if I remember it correctly and it was really goooooooood. The new look and the scenery was just amazing and I was nodding my head from start to finish, obviously the only one besides one other guy because the girls only take part in hand gestures and so forth and don't seem like they are really feeling the music? is what I was thinking because swaying for me is really feeling it and not being able to control your body.... ) Anywho side rant over. The PV was amazing and my friend and I was in awe and right after that the Live started and we stood up and went for it. I'm not going to give a play by play of what was done in each different song but more the things that surprised me about going to my first small live, probably ever. Starting off I mean the headbanging and so forth is probably the easiest thing you can probably get right without messing up only being to someones live once but the hand movements I had to just watch and every once in a while the fist pump came up and I could easily do that so I did haha. There was parts where we moshed to the left and right ( I swear their was a different name for it but yeah) That was pretty fun and we did it for a long time during 二枚舌 (Nimaijita) where Ryo got off stage to have people sing in his mic and to move with us. He was right behind me for sometime so I don't know what he was doing because I was trying not to pay him to much mind but I saw the everyone looking right behind me so who knows if he was riding my backpack or not lol. Then he tried to get back on stage but Sizuki kicked him back in the crowd so he stayed for a bit longer and then got back on stage to end the song. I really think the highlight of the night was Akai Dress it stood out a lot more than the other songs to me and with the red light blazing behind them I was really feeling it, probably my new favorite by them , I think. They they ended the night after their last song and told us thank you for coming and to follow them. All in all it was a great night and it got my friend and I excited to go take on another live soon so who knows where will be next but yeah. If you guys haven't listened to them yet I would check them out they are good and want to say even better live! Live Set list
