I actually like Ryoga, he can do some serious cool stuff with his voice (ANOTHER is a beast of a song that he nails so hard, for example) What I meant was more about the style of composition in some bits of their songs. Taking LIQUID VAIN for example, the chorus is completely born-ish. that's when I think they lack the most, and also believe it's where probably there's more imput of the other members besides Kouryu. Then listen to the first/main verse and riffs. NOW THAT'S Kouryu as fuck. This longer preview sounds excellent, besides the HORRIBLE chorus that drags the song down so hard. Ryoga screams are really on point, the instrumentals are all packing some punch (besides the flat equalization someone mentioned before), but that chorus is a cold shower

Fastest growing vk band of all time?

All of you guys pretending that ViViD never existed nor that their progress was way too fast for acts of such calibre... Lol. @Kiryu999NIL was their major debut album (with King records AFAIK, which technically makes Cassis their very first major debut)

Shinjou Kasumi posted on Twitter that Gekijou Tenor would have a one man on September 30th, 2017 titled "Please Dance Again" at Holiday Shinjuku Also, it seems as if Aka-on is still a thing. With the new Gekijou Tenor revival, and Unlucky Morpheus starting to pick things back up, maybe there is even more in the future involving Kasumi and Yuki?

    The general Metal discussion thread

Favourite depressive black metal albums? I'll join in and I'll post a shitload of my favourite releases of the subgenre, but a lot of these are from before the boom, tho. Some might disagree with including an album like Hvis lyset tar oss, because is it really depressive black metal? Well, it sure is borderline. But a lot of the albums that were released post-94 that has the depressive black metal tag to them are heavily influenced and based on the sound of Hvis lyset tar oss, End of Life, Strid, Ravens over the Road of Kings, Forgotten Woods, Through the Woods, As the Wolves Gather, Sjel av natten and a few more. And while that doesn't make the original album a part of the subgenre itself, I do feel like Hvis lyset tar oss belongs on the list. Strid - End of Life Strid - Strid Burzum - Hvis lyset tar oss Forgotten Woods - As the Wolves Gather Forgotten Woods - The Curse of Mankind Forgotten Woods - Sjel av natten Forgotten Woods - Forgotten Woods / Through the Woods Nidhoggr - Ravens Over the Road of Kings Wigrid - Hoffnungstod Wigrid - Die Asche eines Lebens Nyktalgia - Nyktalgia Hypothermia - Rakbladsvalsen Hypothermia - Gråtoner Hypothermia - Veins Hypothermia - Köld Trist - Stíny Trist - Sebevražední andělé Trist - Zrcadlení melancholie Xashur - Nocturnal Poisoning Xasthur - The Funeral of Being Make a Change... Kill Yourself - II Austere - Withering Illusions and Desolation Austere - To Lay like Old Ashes Lifelover - Pulver Lifelover - Konkurs Drowning the Light - Drowned Woods of Desolation - Toward the Depths Woods of Desolation - Sorh Min Kniv - Av aske Nargaroth - Geliebte des Regens Brocken Moon - Das Märchen vom Schnee I Shalt Become - Wanderings Mortualia - Mortualia Then you have bands like Bethlehem, Celestia, Leviathan, Mortifera, Sombres forêts, Gris, Amesoeurs and so on which is borderline depressive black metal on certain albums. But enough to be included? I don't know. But all these bands rules. Anyway, 33 albums, but only 19 different artists. Tells you everything you need to know about this subgenre IMO. After the boom a billion and two bands formed, but the vast majority is hilariously bad, sad and ridiculous. When it hits, it hits hard. But for most part it doesn't hit at all. The albums are usually very very good, or simply bad. There's rare to find something inbetween. But it is a genre I play a lot during winter. Bands like Trist, I Shalt Become, Woods of Desolation, Hypothermia, Forgotten Woods and Strid are in heavy rotation during winter. Especially Trist is nothing short of perfect during this time of year. The worst example of this subgenre is probably this hilarious piece of music: Good on them having an elephant doing the vocals, tho.

    Sadie - Gangsta

Had entirely forgotten about this album. I think we should occasionally pay dividends to the fact that we had an album called Gangsta by the longest running, consistently unimpressive and mediocre bands in the game. That song above is just exactly the way you'd imagine an album like this from a band like this would sound in 2014. Amazing

Okay, here's as much details as I can remember right now: They played the entire MACABRE album. They did the original 10 minute version of MACABRE, but the remakes of Hydra and Rasetsukoku. They also played ain't afraid to die and children, but no Ash, hoping for that later along the tour. Of the newer material they did Uroko, Un deux and Utafumi. The band was quite active and put on a good show, walking around and interacting with the crowd. They used a screen similar to the Blitz 5 Days performance during Deity and Macabre.

    New band "LUCIFER" has formed

    i hope they're brutal
  32. 1 point
as far as I'm concerned, they never get back to playing original versions once there's a newer one. so no. if there's MACABRe, it's an UNRAVELING one.

They also have a free distributed song "おやすみ" (oyasumi) at the live on 2017.10.08

wow. I guess everyone felt super cereal aboot staff restriction on giving away any details from the first MACABRE show. no setlist or anything whatsoever. only some rumours on Kaoru going blonde, Touru going green or pink and both Touru and Toshiya having a curry eating contest on stage.

Agreeing with @Biopandaand @fitear1590 - Phonetically, Japanese has always resonated with me for whatever reason. I may sound like a helpless weeb saying this (and I am =P), but it never really sounded "foreign" to my ears. I've always found the language beautiful and smooth, whereas hearing other languages sung was initially jarring for me, and required time for me to really get used to them, if at all. As for the OP - I definitely think it's interesting to discuss these patterns, but I'm not sure if "hypocrisy" has any bearing in regards to music appreciation (and you probably already understand this with your use of quotations in the title). I say that because you need some kind of static, objective reference to discern if something is hypocritical or not, and music appreciation is far too ambiguous for a judgment like "hypocrisy" to be applied, let alone relevant.
  46. 1 point
This af. I'm not denying the OP's observations about a certain bias some fans may have, but at the same time, I think a lot of people downplay the uniqueness of different languages themselves. When it comes down to it, it's extremely difficult to find bands singing in different languages that actually manage to "sound" like each other. Even if a German-language band existed that sounded, musically, exactly like THE NOVEMBERS or something, I highly doubt I'd ever enjoy listening to them as much as Japanese NOVEMBERS, just from a phonetic standpoint. And this is coming from someone who studies/teaches/otherwise loves German. But there's all kinds of biases. There's fans that never go beyond English-language or Anglo/European music. There's Japanese music fans that don't dare touch VK, because it would ruin their cred. There's VK fans who put the blinders on to any other scene or country's music.

    Favourite Live Performances?

Inoran can't sing for shit, but this performance still absolutely gives me chills. Incorrectly dated, this was years after Luna Sea broke up and no one was playing LS material solo. First time I saw this... man... let's just say it got me feelin' a certain kind of way. The roar of the crowd when they realize it's "Gravity" ... not a dry eye in the place. It was something special.
