Luna Sea just KILLED Budokan. Like literally I think Sugizo may have killed a guy who was sitting on the second floor with a water bottle. But seriously it was a GORGEOUS performance.

Someone did a drag performance lipsynching to parts of this at Anime North, and I'm still not sure WTF I just saw... I can't deny that the impersonation was dead-on though. They had the watercolours and everything.

    The general Metal discussion thread

I know there's a few fans of Fen her, so this should please a couple of you guys: It's very Fen-esque and reminds me a lot of Fen's debut, though with a bit more traditional atmospheric black metal and less post-rock. I really like this song. Sounds really nice!

Yeah, it was really sad to watch how badly their debut was botched.

Still in dire need for their first album so I can decide for once and all if I hate this band a lot or just a little.

Out of the tons and tons of underground Japanese groups I've heard that went nowhere, this is probably the most heartbreaking. Seriously.... I barely have my face on right now with how hard it rocked me.

i doubt their unreleased tracks were anything near publishing or worth releasing, likely skeletons that they couldn't afford to flesh out bc expensive studio time, lineup drama, lallala

Kis-My-Ft2 is probably the best example of JE mishandling (oh snap) the few talented idols they do manage to produce. They were kept as juniors for far too long and when they finally debuted it was way past their momentum and everything was just... meh?? since then. Tragic.

    The big TV-series discussion thread

I finally finished Black Sails. It's impressive how it went from being a bland adventure series with uninteresting, and mostly annoying characters and dull dialogue in season 1 to become one of the best series around in season 2, with an amazing character gallery, fantastic dialogue and more a character driven drama than anything else. That being said, season 1 is far from the worst thing I've seen. It's decent entertainment, but if it wasn't for the fact that I love pirates I would not have given season 2 a chance at all. Had it been about vikings I would not have seen season 2. And it's really refreshing with a series that knows when to call its quit, rather than to go on and on because they can. Because they could've made 4 more seasons of this series, but ending with season 4 is simply genius. At its best, this series is just up there with the best seasons of Game of Thrones, if not better. Season 1 - 6/10 Season 2 - 10/10 Season 3 - 10/10 Season 4 - 10/10 And I also started on Fargo season 3 today. I'm only one episode in, but so far this feels like Fargo all the way, just like season 1 and 2 did. This series, man. So god damned good!

likely: unlikely: combination of charisma, well produced indie records and being spotted by nippon crown recruiters at the right time they didn't really explode in popularity until siging to VAP who sold their music to animoo weebz hardcore for a few years. fame-wise naito were always a few notches above gazette tho, idk where the comparison even comes from.

The Gallo. They look cool and Jojo is a blatant Gara stan, but his voice is just too much and drives me nuts, but more like head-banging-against-the-wall nuts. Mejibray definitely stands out from everyone else, looks like a gang you could find at a Hot Topic or smth. But their music, specifically Tsuzuku's voice, is just whiny and bad. Tsuzuku sounds like his balls are being impaled by those huge piercings he supposedly has on his dick (the pic on tanuki is fucking grotesque) Most screamo kei bands. I want to like them cuz they look so cool, but their music is so generic that I can't get into it. Versailles/Jupiter. Versailles was one of the first vk bands I ever got into. They definitely look gorgeous, and I specifically love Hizaki, but their concept is so cheesy and boring to me, that I stopped listening to their discography after Jubilee. When Jupiter formed, I was also quite hyped up about them - their first look was especially gorgeous. However, besides giving me an 80s glam metal vibe, I could never get into them either.

    MEJIBRAY will go on hiatus

Ah, my response was mostly to "don't release it on CD then". Unfortunately, as its been pointed out already, most fans don't get into a band through randomly seeing them live (because it's expensive or inaccessible), so bands have to rely on CD or digital releases to reach more potential fans (that hopefully will go see them live one day), even if they're not a band that's strong when it comes to physical releases. I don't think it's wrong to critique or bring up those shortcomings of that band. I just don't think CD/digital releases should be the sole factor in judging whether a band is "good" or "bad". I somewhat disagree. To be frank, visual kei, like most art in Japan, is not made for the international community or international recognition. I mean, you are free to your opinion, but I don't see why a band should be judged on the basis of not appealing to a fanbase they were never trying to appeal to, if that makes sense.
