    #1: Gravitation by Girugamesh

Artist: girugamesh EP: Gravitation Score: After a few years of borderline radio-friendly stagnation, Girugamesh have hit back with quite possibly their best release yet. After a few years of borderline radio-friendly stagnation, Girugamesh have hit back with quite possibly their best release yet. Last year's Monster symbolised a beacon of hope for both fans and the band. The aggression was back, the heaviness was back, Girugamesh was back. Although steeped in pop-sensibilities at times, the album took a 180 from pop to electronic metalcore, leaving the burning wrecks of Now and Go far behind. It's been a year since their last full-length Monster, and Gravitation not only keeps this reclaimed heaviness in place but polishes it to perfection. Kicking off with their hardest song to date, 'Go Ahead' lures you in with gentle tones before ripping your head off. Satoshi's transition from gentle crooning to terrifying growls, for example, are nothing short of frisson worthy. Having the rawest vocals, the hardest breakdown, and the most memorable chorus, this song characterises the EP and spearheads their new sound. As a song that can only be described with superlatives, 'Go Ahead' highlights how Gravitation has led the band to a new level of heaviness. This permeates throughout the EP. While 'Reflection' displays a hard metalcore influence, for instance, 'Vortex' goes beyond that, opting for a thrashy deathcore vibe; a massive departure from Go in many respects. I thought it would let up at some point but the whole EP is like this; every time a lull in the intensity is expected, it continues its bombardment of chunky riffs and pleasantly incessant drumming. This is exemplified best in 'Reflection' where Satoshi tries to do some severe damage to his throat...in the best possible way. They could have included a slower, gentler track to give the listener a breather, but instead they opted for five heavy songs varying in loudness and intensity. The infectious electronic elements and catchy vocals which have characterised their more recent efforts are used to full effect here, modernising their previous sound and making each track as memorable as the last. All of these elements culminate in 'Vortex' which, replete with screams, riff-heavy guitar work and double-bass pedaling, is the best way to end Gravitation: in the same loud and exciting way in which it started, exuding a confidence not found on their older material. This is the Girugamesh we wanted after Music and the band sure as hell knows it. By cramming everything their fans love about them into one neat package, Girugamesh has created their best effort yet. Contrary to more recent releases, the intensity and loudness of their old sound is back and better than ever. While taking a new form reflective of some current "-core" genres, classic Girugamesh permeates to the point where they might win their older fanbase back. Upon listening to Gravitation it's clear that Girugamesh are back and louder, heavier and better than ever!

A few things got shared before my shop started, but for personal reasons, I'm currently in the process of getting my shop registered as a legit business. Because of this, I have to do things more "by the book", which certainly doesn't include illegal things like uploading. Beyond that, some people don't want the stuff shared. If there's something really rare that's only available at the shop and someone spends... say... $40 buying it, I think it'd be pretty shitty for the shop owner to go "oh you spent all your hard-earned money on that? now I'll give it to everyone for free!". If the buyer wants to upload it, then that's great, but they own it now and it's completely up to them. As "nice" as it'd be for people who couldn't buy, I'd be lying if I said that doing such things wouldn't lose me a TON of business in the process.

    Japanese punk!

As most of you know, I'm quite a fan of punk and its subgenres, and the Japanese punk scene sure deserves its own thread on the forum. I guess everybody on the forum knows bands like The Stalin, Anti-Feminism, Balzac, The Piass and so on, so I won't make a big deal about those, even though I am a fan of several of those. But feel free to talk about all kinds of punk from hardcore to d-beat to crust to horror punk to grindcore to skate punk to street punk to thrashcore to psychobilly and so on, but keep it to the bands that are on the punk side. Take grindcore as an example: please do talk about grindcore, but keep it to the bands rooted in punk. Bands like S.O.B., Napalm Death and Extreme Noise Terror played a type of grindcore that belongs in this thread. These guys basically played hard, brutal punk with metal influences, unlike grindcore bands such as Impetigo, Terrorizer and Repulsion who were more on the metallic side and played and more death metal influenced grindcore. Same goes with metalcore and whatnot too. You get the point. I'll start and post some of my favourites from the Japanese scene throughout the time: Gauze Formed in 1981, Gauze turned out to be one of the most influential Japanese punk bands of all time, if not THE most influential band from the punk scene in Japan. The band is recognized throughout the underground punk scene in the whole world to have released two of the best hardcore albums of all time with 1984's Fuckheads and 1986's Equalizing Distort, and the band proved to have a massive influence of the scene in Japan, as well as underground scene all over the world. So the band did get lots of recognition, but far from what they had deserved IMO. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DR1f17xEzSo S.O.B. Another highly influential band, but unlike Gauze this band had more influence on the grindcore scene throughout the world, and grindcore legends Napalm Death, Brutal Truth and Carcass have all told lots about the influence S.O.B. had on them, Lee Dorian, vocalist on Napalm Death's two first albums, have always been open to how the band borrowed a shitload of S.O.B. riffs for their 1988 masterpiece From Enslavement to Obliteration. Lee Dorian and Shane Embury even went on to play on 1989's Thrash Night EP. The band started out as a brutal and fast hardcore band, before evolving into a pure gindcore band with 1990's What's the Truth?. Their debut EP Leave Me Alone consists of 9 songs, clocking in on 09,16 minutes, and their debut album consists of 18 songs, clocking in on 19:42 minutes. Too short? Nah. With the intensity of the bands music the lenght are more or less perfect. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Eib9a4GM5M G.I.S.M. G.I.S.M. are robably best known for their strange live shows where Sakevi did plenty of strange things, like running into the crowd with a chainsaw, attacking front rows with a lit flamethrower, beating random concertgoers with a club, and firing gun shots on stage with a revolver, as well as attacking journalists and photographers who try to approach him. But beneath this, we find one of the early metapunk bands, blending hardcore and heavy metal into one raw, dirt mix. Their second album saw the band leaning more towards heavy meta, though, with close to no hardcore left in their sound. It's a great album, but not close to as good as their debut, Detestation. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=twFu0ZABwvk Disclose Disclose are one of the hundreds and hundreds of Discharge clones, but unlike all the other clones, this band is actually more or less just as good as the original. Disclose plays d-beat and sounds like a fuzzy and distorted version of Discharge, and for someone who worships the altar of Discharge it's impossible not to love this band. There's not really more to say. Fantastic band! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pv7-ziKfbIQ Framtid This band here, is one of my all time favourite hardcore bands. Framtid isn't a very productive band, and during their 20+/- year long career they've only released two full lenghts (16 and 21 minutes long), a few demos and a few split releases. So yeah, not very productive and it took them 11 years from their first to their second full lenght. But who gives a fuck when the quality of what they're releasing is as high as it is? Two genius albums and two of the best in the genre. Raw, dirty and brutal hardcore. This band is hardcore hell! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uPJ07f4V6q8 Zouo There's not too much info on this band around, but what I do know is that this band played top notch hardcore. Dark and dirty, with obvious G.I.S.M. influences, though the hardcore side of G.I.S.M. Fantastic band! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bavbNYSA8_s Death Side Pure hardcore with fantastic leads and great riffs and vocals. Not as raw or ugly as some of the other mentioned here, but just as good as most of them. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v1gJHPGoPS8 Other great bands to check out: Unholy Grave Deathpeed Kriegshög Outo Gudon Electric Funeral Crow Paintbox D.B.S. Ghoul Kuro Nurse Disarray The Rustler Swindle Bitch Kyah Mental D-Clone Forward Confuse and so on All these are well worth checking out IMO. Great bands, al of them.

started playing saxophone when i was nine (nineteen year ago, damn...) piano two or three years later. started studying classical saxophone at university after high school, so i am a certified professional saxophonist now (well, now that is some useless diploma right there if i've ever seen one) simultaneously in university started playing guitar and bass, because sax sucks *baduntz* (for real tho) right after univerity four years ago i pretty much gave up on the sax tho, so i'm not really on my hight anymore, i do play in a funk-band sometimes tho also i do have my experience on flute, ukulele and clarinet, and i can somehow hold a steady rock-groove on drums, but that's about it that makes pretty okayish: saxo guitar piano bass somewhat: ukulele flute drums with a more soundproof room anywhere near me i'd love to be able to drum a bit more/better. i'm always fascinated by drummers

    Girugamesh - Gravitation

girugamesh - gravitation WRITE-UP: The first mini-album from what can be seen as the `new` girugamesh that comes off as `solid` no matter which way I look at it, from the quality of the tracks, to the production, congruent sound, and tonality. After what quickly became my favorite Girugamesh release, the album MONSTER, they took a slightly different approach with their LIVE BEST, and have now returned to put out a mini-album that would be redundant as an album, but feels perfect in it`s five track form. What girugamesh seems to have done is perfect a sound. The tracks all play out with complete conviction, absolutely dialed transitions and compositions, and what must be the best production quality and mastering of their career to date. The perfect, seamless approach to their sound is what struck me the most in my initial listens, and defines this release to me. To get a taste for the sound, listen to the gravitation track, this would be the most new-user-friendly track. If you can stand to go a little harder than that, then you should hear out the rest of the album. Unlike Monster which played with different elements in a looser way, this release sticks very closely to a familiar center, although it does employ new elements influenced contemporary sounds as well, though none of these define the songs; the main dish is always the giru-sound, it`s never someone else`s sound with giru sprinkled on top, which fans of their current key elements should be able to appreciate. Overall, you are getting a masterclass in the core of modern girugamesh, executed beautifully, with five tracks of straightforward head-bangers that plays out seamlessly, and is very friendly to the repeat-button. Track Count: 5 Listens: 15-20 Production Quality: Absolutely blown away from the sound of this one, a heavier album, but without as much as a rough edge as MONSTER`s production. The sound-stage and depth of the lows as well as their placement is quite something. Overall Rating: Worth the Purchase? At a price lower than what some bands charge for singles, and almost half of the cost of many of the other mini-albums in my collection, I would say if you like the title track, then yes, it definitely is more than worth the price.

    Girugamesh - Gravitation

To me it seems as if its MONSTER part two but more ballsy. The guitar work is what really draws me to it and GO AHEAD is hauntingly scary and is the best song on the track because its raw and that breakdown is nuts. As far as the rest of the songs go, I will admit that I do see some repetitiveness going on but I can deal for the most part. My hope is the same hope that I have for the GazettE's upcoming releases (which Ruki did speak on recently btw) and that is that they grow and build up from what they are doing. This current era of GIRUGAMESH shows that they actually do know how to write music again and is pretty much done with all that poppy nonsense. I wanna see where it goes from here.

it's hard to say... I find the show enjoyable at times and then other times i just can't stand it. I will say that for the most part I really like most of the characters, and the story isn't absolutely terrible but there are times in the plot where I'm just like "wut just happened?". I wouldn't say the show is great or anything but it's not trash or even mildly bad. I would just call it decent and a good distraction from boredom. So if you need something to watch and you don't have any other better candidates out there then I say go for it because you could do a lot worst than Hamatora, that's for sure.

I play flute, Saxophone, Piano, and some guitar. I started off playing woodwinds in school band, and eventually started to explore other options, teaching myself saxophone during my junior year of high school when I became drum major of the school band. I also took AP Music Theory my Junior year, which is when I picked up piano more seriously since it was a good base instrument to know to branch out to almost anything. I didn't pick up guitar seriously until after I graduated, though that is nothing more than a hobby that has been neglected and is now collecting dust on the back burner. I've played other instruments, but not enough to confidently say I PLAY them on a regular basis. I'd like to pick up drums again.

    Girugamesh - Gravitation

I'm loving this really pointless arguments over genres on a review thread. Gravitation is definitely a step forward for Girugamesh and their sound. Gravitation (song) was still reminding you of MONSTER a bit but all of the other songs just brought some raw intensity that hasn't been present in a Giru song in years! They're doing what Crossfaith should be building up on, whereas Crossfaith is starting to feel like they're crawling towards 2011 Girugamesh. Definitely digging this and i'm excited for some new releases. That buildup to Vortex's breakdown>>>>>>> Also, stop calling djent a genre. It's insurmountably ridiculous to use the purr a distorted palm mute on the bridge creates as the name for a genre.

Oh you are going to make it a real legit busniss. yes then its another story. Still would be nice to know who bought something if someone grabbed it before your nose. So that someone can contact that person to ask if that person might could share it. Then it's still up to the one, who bought it, to share it or not. Since there are plenty under us who love to support PANDA and to help out still other people who didn't had the change to buy the real CD or Tape. (^.-)

    DANCERS

Yay, it's nice to know there are other dancers here as well! What's electro dance btw? I have never heard of it before and I couldn't find any clips in Youtube. I used to do jazz dance for 9 years before I moved out of town to attend uni. Dance classes here where I live now are super expensive so I couldn't really attend any serious groups. I did try street dance at my uni though, it was really nice but somehow I just didn't have any time for it so I kinda just quit it. I used to be the 'leader' of a tiny dance group which consisted of freshmen only but I'm not a freshman anymore so I really don't dance anymore that much It would be fun to attend some classes but I'm not sure if I really want to devote my whole free time to dancing anymore. And if you aren't familiar what jazz dance is, here is a video of our top group in my former dance school. I really love that choreography a lot, I've seen it so many times! They have won many competitions with that particular choreography. ...aaaaaand my little sister is dancing there :3 :3 She's so talented!

I completely agree about Stardust Crusaders! It's fantastic so far and I hope they end up animating part 4. I still need to catch up on the last 6-7 episodes but I jumped ahead and started to read the manga. Haven't had the time these past few weeks but I'm on part 6. and I love the Tokyo Ghoul manga and haven't picked up the anime yet, it definitely has enough material for a 2nd season, and honestly (this is unrelated to the anime) but I think the manga should get a part 2 as well because of how it ended. the only 2 i can think of that I'm looking forward too are the 2nd seasons of Psycho pass and Durarara, they should hold me over until Stardust Crusaders picks back up and I'm currently re-watching Yu Yu Hakusho, one of those old classics that will always have a special place in my heart and It's just as good as it was years ago.

    Girugamesh - Gravitation

@DarkWater , Alternative Metal is not a new hype , this genre exists from the late 80's , and the hype around it is cause its metal , but more mainstream friendly . And BTW if you want to use phrases like real metal and real rock and than go saying nu metal was better , than its hard to take you seriously . People who would say real metal would be those hardheaded metalfanatics who say only the oldschool metal genres are true and all the new ones are crap . Yet you use this phrase and say you like nu metal , well now i saw everything . Oh well there are different ppl and different tastes , you can go and make tags for bands and their music , but you cant do them for listeners . But okay lets not talk more about this , as i found your review interesting i might have a sort of a challange for you for reviewing , i would like to see your opinion on this one http://monochrome-heaven.com/index.php?/topic/29796-soundwitch-romanesque/?hl=soundwitch . @blackdoll , the screamo part was still at DarkWater . Also i only meant you used j-core as tag for japanese bands playing core genres like metalcore and hardcore , but in the end you used and already existing genre the wrong way . Its a little similar to what ppl do with trancecore and electronicore , where the first one being a hardcore techno freeform genre , and the second being a mix of metalcore and electronic elements . I know what you meant but it turned a little confusing to someone who listens to j-core and actually i still have to listen to this album and for a second i thought they started playing techno .

    Last movie you saw.

Ray Harryhausen: Special Effects Titan - If you're just slightly interested in what goes on behind what you see on the screen when watching a film full of special effectis, either it is stop-motion animation or CGI, then this should be of interest to you, as it goes through the film-life of Ray Harryhausen, the greatest animator of all time. You geat an interview with the man himself as he talks about his films and work, and also with folks like Peter Jackson, Steven Spielberg, Tim Burton, James Cameron, John Landis John Landis, Terry Gilliam, Joe Dante, Guillermo del Toro, Vincenzo Natali, Ray Bradbury and more, as they talk bout Ray Harryhausen's influence, not just on themself, but on the world of cinema itself. One of the most influential guys to work with film! This is a must-see IMO. Snitch - Mediocre, though decent enough actionthriller with The Rock. Nothing out of the ordinary, but OK entertainment on a thursday evening.

Dir en grey - AMON 03. exist†trace - Daybreak 〜13月の色彩〜 04. Muse - Easily 05. Dir en grey - 残 06. Pt. - ナチュラル ロウ 07. SKULL MANIA - Fuck You 08. Put That Cookie Down Remix http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_IROZqyCmn0 09. アナーキー - シティ・サーファー 10. 水樹奈々 - METRO BAROQUE 11. Lily Allen - Never Gonna Happen [Explicit] I'm a little embaressed about #8, but.... oh well. I included an 11th song in case #8 shouldn't count. *hides under a rock* Anyone else (who knows me) surprised that Diru isn't the winner despite having two songs play?

Yeah I know! I have two issues so I went for it lol. I just took it out gently with a few other pages by bending the staples haha.

So yeah the last Tokyo Ghoul episode was pretty fucking brutal if you ask me... me and a friend were just kinda sitting here wincing at certain moments throughout the episode. That being said this episode was fucking amazing, holy shit balls I was really not expecting that total 180 in personality there at the end. Now I'm sitting here wishing there was more... hopefully it'll get a second season and soon (preferably by next spring or summer). I will definitely be looking forward to re-watching this in it's uncensored glory when the BD's come out. In the meantime I might just have to go pick up the manga Also JoJo's Bizarre Adventures: Stardust Crusaders just ended and it's already confirmed it's coming back in January during the winter season to finish off part 3. I'm definitely gonna be missing it, this is one adaption that I literally have no complaints about whatsoever. David Productions are doing god's work by animating this beloved series .

    THE JAPANESE INDIE THREAD

Maybe something of marginal interest to some fans here. イツエ (itsue) vocalist Mizuki has participated in some anime song with "SawanoHiroyuki[nZk]" (not familiar with him): http://www.jpopsuki.tv/video/SawanoHiroyuki%255BnZk%255D%253Amizuki---AZ/0b768b7fccc66c93f3040db197fbffb5 Imo, it's kind of a basic power ballad... Cool that she's getting more exposure, but on this track, there's not really any traces of her amazing vocal work with イツエ.
