I buy CDs (or any other band merchanside) mostly for myself. Because I like to have it. Supporting the band, however little of it actually reaches them, is just an added bonus (and what they do with their money is really up to them - I'm not too much in the business of judging other people's lifestyle.) And if the music of a band I used to like suddenly turned bad - well, I'll stop buying it. In this day and age nobody has to buy bad music anymore. There is usually more than one way, legal or illegal, to listen to something before buying, if you are unsure. I think it would have to be something REALLY serious for me to stop buying music I like (or any other band stuff) just to prevent the few cents of my purchase from reaching the artist - like, I dunno, them turning into completely fucked-up nazi assholes or child rapists or whatever. Then maybe I would think "Yeah.... maybe I'll just keep my money". But them spending "my" money on useless stuff? Hardly. Suffice to say, that hasn't happened to me so far.

Perfect strategy. Wait for a band from the same city as you to disband, then take their name. BAM instant fans. Maybe they can trick people in by announcing one of their lives as a "secret one day revival" and see how many UCP fans show up.

    Uploader's Café

Question for the uploaders in this forum or other site, what is the most downloads you have for a single release? Assuming you have a way of keeping track. I am genuinely curious. Mine is Light Bringer - Scenes of Infinity MP3 ver with about 1100 DLs so far. I didn't expect so many, I thought it would be something like 300-500. Interestingly things I noticed go through my uploads, most of the comments I get in 4shared are those that are Spanish. And none of my lossless uploads get past 20 DLs which is why lossless is now a request only for me to do.

    RATE THAT RIFF

Also very simple: post a video and the person below you has to rate how good the guitar riff(s) are. A sentence or two explaining if they liked/disliked it and why is good enough. I'll start with something good:

Score: | Sometimes, simpler is better. I'm conflicted in how I want to describe the title track. Sustain the Untruth has elements that were first introduced in Dum Spiro Spero, but Diru have finally learned about the art of subtlety. Overall a straightforward rock song, there are still some of the progressive influences and none of the deathcore influences that was the fixation of this band's musical output during their last phase. I criticized the chorus when the first previews were posted, saying that Kyo needs to learn how to sing a chorus while not metamorphosing into a banshee, but I was wrong. The chorus is what holds the song together and is the most memorable. This is the most enjoyable metal song I have heard since any of the lead promotional singles for Uroboros or their cover of THE STALIN. It's 50% more song, 50% less weirdness to project some facade of artistic direction underneath all the pretentiousness. This and Rinkaku will do until they announce their full-length album. The other two tracks are the epitome of filler. Ruten no Tou was good song on a frustrating album, but it wasn't so good to deserve an acoustic re-recording so quickly. And quick is the keyword here because it sounds very awkward and disjointed. The song's different phases fit together well enough, but Kyo sticks out in a very bad way: Screams that don't fit with the tone, weird coos and hums that overpower the acoustics, and a chorus that is too powerful for the minimalist re-interpretation. Not a good selection for an acoustic rendition, and not a good acoustic rendition, but they tried. The live track is as all live Dir en grey renditions are: when separated from the visuals it's weak. It's good for one or two listens but after that you won't be back. Also, if I wasn't clear already, I prefer the A-side to all of their djing-djong faux-artistic Meshuggah-lite dronecore crap we've been subjected to for too long.

    サウイフモノ (souiumono)

サウイフモノ (souiumono) website last.fm Vocals: SACCI Guitar: nono Guitar: ヒロバッキー (hiro backy) Bass: ぬっぺ (nuppe) Drums: カムイ (kamui) ex-guitarist: ドンキー (donkey) サウイフモノ (souiumono) formed as a trio in 2011 with its vocalist and bassist being former members of the band ポワトリン (poitrine). During this time, the band donned Smurf/Tellytubby-inspired blue skin and headgear. With this lineup, they released their first single パッパパッパラッタ(pappapa palata) followed by a live-distributed single. After the departure of guitarist Donkey in February 2012, the band filled the lineup with ex-DragonWAPPPPPPER guitarist nono, ex-フカモカ(fukamoka) guitarist hiro backy, and drummer kamui. Since then, the band has dropped their "blue" look and worn primarily fantasy/RPG-inspired outfits. They even released two RPG computer games to accompany their singles. One of the things that definitely sets the band apart from their contemporaries is their sense of humor. In March 2014, they will end the streak of singles, releasing their first full album. They're not the most consistent band in the world, but I really like a few of their releases (the 殺人鬼の棲む街 & くびはねるつるぎ / 毒メスシリンダー singles, plus NANDAKANDA are my absolute favorites.) Not to mention, I think SACCI has awesome vocals! I'm really looking forward to their album to see what they can really do. Hopefully they don't disappoint! Favorite member? Favorite song/release? Valkyrie Kiss (my band :P)

Hiya hiya hiya! From lurking and peeking around some of the threads, I've seen/heard that there are a lot of people here with some very good opinions and insight on the whole "JRock-inspired / Visual Kei-inspired" thing. It's an eternal balancing act for those of us who choose to pursue this kind of music outside of Japan, I think. ANYWAY, that said, this is a 1:40 preview of my band's first single "Set Me Free" (the full song goes live on the 20th). Would love to hear what y'all think of it. As a band we really love Janne da Arc, Acid Black Cherry, Dir en grey, and a bunchaothers and stuff ^u^ Edit: the link now points to the full version of the song on YouTube, since it's, yenno, released and all. ^^ http://youtu.be/QRrARgw5emo

That's true. Artists don't get much from CD sales. When the CD is imported since a lot of us like Japanese music, a lot of what you pay goes into shipping and stuff. As to live gigs, you are paying for your one time enjoyment of the show. Your money is exchanged for their work of playing the music. It's fair trade unless you think the ticket price is not worth it. Of course, people can stop liking certain music for various reasons. If you are not happy with how the artists spend the money they earn, or if you don't like the music they make anymore, you will just stop paying for songs and gig tickets. No matter whatever you have paid for in the past, you have enjoyed the benefit so I think it was worth it.

I don't really care about an artists personal life. But if I were to look at it that way, it is just a basic question of morals I guess. A very weak one at that since if you look at people in general, a great majority of which will also spend money on stupid shit but that stupid shit would be a matter of opinion. So should we stop paying people money and leave them jobless too?? People will look for contentment differently, to some it maybe spending money on expensive materials, consuming illegal substance or obtaining sex and to some ice cream is plenty. Music wise, I pay for the music first and foremost and other merchandise second. I am currently in a falling out with Hizaki and camp. It's disappointing personally since he one of the first artist I have grown to love for the work and I have to ultimately stop supporting after so long, I just can't dump my money on a shitty sounding band. Note: I don't think artists gain much from CD sales though, I was under the impression live gigs generate more revenue.

oh wow, I guess you have the record so far and I didn't expect that band to have that many interests...well I am not much of a fan of Oshare Kei but that is interesting. I don't think youtube view count = popularity necessarily. A better, although minimally, away to assess popularity is the relation between view count AND likes ratio. There are many indie artists that have like ratios of 1000:1 with maybe 10k views while other more "popular" artists have large view count and terrible like ratios. So I don't think view count really equates being liked for their music. I noticed that Russia has many sites with flac uploaders as well, the download speed is pretty slow in comparison to servers closer to me but no sense to cry over it.

If he gets some good instrumentalists around him this time, at least it'll be a good band with a bad vocalist. That's a step up from Nega.
