DISCLAIMER: This might result in a loss of either hearing, intelligence or good music taste. You have been warned. And don't take this lightly. You might have to puke later on. Also, I know this topic is pretty much a no-brainer, since most of this stuff follows the same agenda of being crap. But it's all fun and games until someone's ears start to bleed. Anyway, let's start. I am still in awe about how some of these western "VK" bands are as bad as they are. I cannot get my mind off it. Most western bands are being laughed upon for their chosen direction, but admittedly, there are decent ones. But there's also a shitload of bad stuff coming from there. (Why, hello, japanese scene! Give us some Maria Cross! Only maybe not) I'd like to start this thread with a hefty load of fail. And there you go, my dear masochists. (there is more stuff there, if you prefer to listen to it at your own risk) Sad thing is, the vocalist was in a pretty cool band as a bassist before. But wow, this really proves that you shouldn't just switch to something else on a whim unless you can somehow pull it off. It really sounds like they never rehearsed it. Well, does it? The studio version isn't as bad, but it is still very painful. I don't want to describe what's going on there too much, as it might insult some disabled people. The fact that people applaud and like them should be some kind of indicator that you can still sell shit at the value of gold. Ever had the urge to taste a sugar-coated piece of turd? Fear not, for this will be the first incentive for you to do so instead of listening to this. I'm not putting a finger on what's the better decision, though. I should bet on it, if I were to create the worst song ever, I'd be all over the news. Unlike these guys. Because being purposely bad nets you enough attention and it actually requres some skill and intelligence, Apparently. But these guys aren't even good at being bad. It's pitiful. Mind you, this isn't even close to most weaboo-kei bands. This is just amazingly crappy in several ways. Enjoy. And please don't file a lawsuit in case you do suffer some cerebral damage there. It could happen. P.S.: if you happen to find something similarly awful, share it. Do it.

    VK Band Recruiting!

Cool, guitarist here, I fit your criteria. I've been looking to start/join a band. I'm not all that big on vk but I am big on rock and metal. Also I like some of your influences, mostly the personally stuff like despair's ray, blood stain child and the gazette. I do have some questions. Like is your sound vk or is it your image or both? Would there be rehersals and what would be your goals for the band? To put out out a ep, an album, do live shows etc.. And when would writing begi and will the vocals be in English or Japanese?

Pretty much this. Just Google articles on the cost of living in Japan and you'll see that it's not just CDs, it's just about everything. Basically take a country with low natural resources and a population of around 127 million (just 20 million under Russia!) and cram it all in a landmass roughly the size of the state of California. More people, limited space and resources and high demand will make prices go up. It's like the US state of Hawaii, everything cost more because everything has to be imported. I know Japan makes various products domestically but a lot of the raw materials has to be imported from outside the country so I imagine that causes prices to inflate. There's a lot of factors but just take the reasons above and it gives you an idea of why the prices can be so wack to some of us. I know people whine, why don't they lower the costs of CDs especially indie bands. Look, their focus is their Japanese market not their foreign fans. Adjusting prices to appease foreign fans just doesn't make sense if they're not going to sell the CDs in that foreign market. Why would a US producer reduce the cost of CDs in the US market just because CDs are cheaper say over in Bangladesh or some other country. It's just not going to happen and just hope your local currency becomes stronger than the yen because it's just economics man.

    Hi (^_^)ノ~

Well, being able to go to Otakon a few years back was pure luck...I don't have the time or money anymore for things like that...sucks being an adult with lots of bills... I've pretty much always used the net since coming back from Japan to buy all my music stuff.

I... didn't realize how many bands were out there..... Honestly... I feel like there are people who can pull off the vk look, or at least a good inspired look overseas, I think the main problem is a lot of bands that form just want to look cool and be like the bands they listen to, but don't really know their instruments. Plus playing that kind of music... or under that genre, it's difficult to find people who want to as well. For example metalcore it's easy to find guitarists and vocalists, hell everyone and their mom does metalcore vocals. I've been in bands before, but i just feel if the right musicians got together there could be a successful decent sounding vk inspired band out there somewhere. .___.

    Jrock & Visual Kei PVs

Okay... so they were also cutting a corpse open (as can be seen in the PV) and stained themselves with it's blood? Or am I making this up? XD Anyway... one thing that Visual kei was for sure in the past: fucking illegal XD

    VK Band Recruiting!

random i would prefer too to see a woman play an instrument instead of being the singer. indeed especcially for vkei is difficult for girls. also why would you want to have only an audience that is 90% of girls. but if you have a random vkei band with friends in your area i don't think it would matter at all. generally i think it's a talent for a girl if she can make other girls to like her. some girls just have it natural others not. probably for vkei she must have some kind of boyish attitude or looks to succed.

    SCREW self-title album【SCREW】

^hahaha I can agree that Byou's vocals are a bit off putting, but don't say Yomi's vibrato makes him bad, his vibrato is what makes him stand out as a good vocalist. It's not as dramatic as Asagi's and once again, that makes Asagi an amazing vocalist. It's controlled, not just going up and down in pitch loosely Anyways, onto the album. DUALITY was a great album, Biran had some moments but not enough, and now SCREW comes in. The singles to this album are much more preferred than the crapstorm that was BRAINSTORM (unintentional pun). We can't really say anything much about their sound with self-titled albums. Self-titled always sound completely different because they always try meshing old styles with their new. That never works cause all people want to hear are the old styles of the band unless the band sounds better now in which case they just want the new style. SCREW, however, didn't do so badly here. This definitely is a step up, and I knew it was going to be good because their last two singles were one of the best ones I've heard since Cursed Hurricane. Now that SCREW is major, they are getting a tad bit better, slowly, but surely, which is a great thing.

Awesome thread I was thinking more in the lines of the roles in visual kei. Like the girly girl image is pretty common for some bands (girly bassists in this case). I happened to find very similar looks of Rame and Emiru.

He did! Seems like I didn't include him because I didn't have a 'portrait'-style picture like for the others. XD I didn't even know the white-streak of hair was still going on tbh. Thanks everyone for posting! And yes. Pink haired guitarists. Haha, I made one like that not too long ago - may I present: the Chain of Fanboyism. Kyo (D'ERLANGER, late '80s) --> Kiyoharu (Kuroyume, early '90s) --> Kyo (Dir en grey, late '90s) --> Kyouki (Grieva, 2012-) (also notice the name similarities, lol)

Yes, it's true that Meku's skillset can be replaced but that's about it, you cannot replace the thoughts and technique styles that were brought to the table by Meku. Is Meku the sole composer of all songs GALEYD? No, but he might as well be called that. Toki did compose some of his own but even then that's not enough right now what with Meku's departure soon to happen. Toki is basically what Aggy was to DELUHI, most of the time he is barely audible and he took a backseat to most of what went on. Maybe live he's different, but in the studio he isn't. I can be blasting my studio headphones or my beautiful SONY speakers and try to focus only on the bass and I still won't be able to hear him. GALEYD is seriously suffering a major blow right here with the loss of Meku and like Zess said, if they do come back from this then it will be very surprising. Honestly, to me, Meku was the driving force of my passion for GALEYD. Will they maybe find a replacement who can play Meku's parts live? Sure. Will they find someone who can bring forth the awesomeness of Meku that reminds me so much of Leda? Not likely. All I hope for is that Meku continues on, and to hopefully see GALEYD recover, however unlikely that might be. When you lose a member, the whole band tends to change style. We saw this with Lolita23q (even though a vocalist change is way more dramatic).

can't really say much bad stuff about any of them since it they are pretty much indie as ffffff. It is kinda expected to be bad with the bad recording, studio room, and whatever else that can't be supported financially. Plus it doesn't seem like any of those bands are relatively experienced or have a guide musically.
