It's gonna be favoritism at this point lol

I have more of my life attached to SE than Atlus so it'd have to be FFXV.

I'm there with you tbh.

I haven't been waiting for 10 years to have Persona enter my home first. If they release at the same time, then that's sad for P5 but I'll get it later.

What it really comes down to for me is what you think is gonna be the better game based on the two respective franchises.

Now hear me out...  there hasn't been a decent FF console game in over a decade, that isn't just my opinion but the communities collective opinion. SE's FF development team(s) has been stagnated for years with little to no promise or evolution in the way they make FF games (imo), couple that with the fact that FFXV has been stuck in development hell for 10 years to the point where it's been re-branded and has changed directors multiple times and you get the assumption at least from the outside that it might not be the safest bet when it comes to a day 1 purchase or hell even a week 1 purchase.

on the flip side atlas and Persona has been booming since the last "good" FF game released and have managed to edge their way onto FF's turf and even has turned some diehard fans over to their side. they've released 2 excellent main franchise games (P3 & P4) that have garnered amazing feedback among JRPG fans and most important of all these games were both fundamentally different from what we had seen before in the industry and showed great innovation in the genre itself.

now I love FF and I think/hope FFXV will be good and hopefully will restore the faith in the franchise among fans, but it's a no brainer which one I would buy over the other if the both had the same release window. You can't dispute that Persona has been very successful and has been a great thing for the genre while FF has been away from the throne. All the logic points to Persona being way more likely of being a better game, but of course that in itself is subjective since everyone will like what they like regardless of what's logical or objective.

sorry for the rant, I just wanted to put out there my reasoning on going with P5 over FFXV

Hehe you're alright. I like Discussions.

I agree that FF13 wasn't the greatest game ever, but it was a change in pace to they normally dish out. FF12 was the probably the only great release in the last decade, and IMO loved the hell out of it (440 hours of love to be exact haha).

I played P4 when it was on PS2, and I loved it as well. Although it was because I lost interest in FF12, that I even considered playing it. So i guess it was luck.

When I realized that I had been playing Atlus games my entire life, I pledged allegiance lol. Atlus was very focused on the arcade/early console community heavily (where I feel most of their older rep comes from), and I'd agree that the Persona lineup feels new with every release.

It's gonna be a very heated battle for the JRPGs this year.

What I hope P5 is that I will have fun playing it, and have some lolwtf moments while I'm at it.

What I hope from FFXV is that I will lose myself in the game, where I'll feel that the 10+ years that I (and everyone else) had waited, to be well worth it.

So I chose FFXV over P5, based on my expectations I guess.

evidently, nobody cares about game industry news, so I won't be doing that again.

Gonna stick my neck out and explain why I don't like Persona.

I played a few hours of Persona 3, but got bored & frustrated.

I decided to give Persona 4 Golden a shot, because it is so popular. I made it far enough to get a bad ending, and then said "you know what, I'm not actually having any fun here, I'm just going to stop." I don't even know who the murderer was, and I still don't care to find out.

- As it turned out, I don't really like dungeon crawling all that much, so I didn't enjoy that aspect of the games.

- I don't like time limits, so the highly structured school/social elements weren't that fun. I didn't like having to choose who to spend time with.

- The vast amount of personas to collect/fuse/upgrade etc was too much, I don't like that level of management.

- Can't say I was a big fan of any of the characters. Maybe I outgrew high school settings. I hated Chie, Teddy, Yosuke, and Nanako.

I actually unfriended/blocked an acquaintance (only knew him from the internet), because he kept spamming me with pro-Persona messages, and telling me to watch Persona 5 trailers, despite the fact that I told him multiple times that I had no interest in Persona.

Whereas for Final Fantasy, I actually managed to beat 13, 13-2 and 13-3, although I fully acknowledge that they are considered "worse" games than Persona. At least I was able to force myself to finish them.

I cared lol

but I already knew all that when you posted it. Keep up the good work chief.

As for the sequels for FFXIII, I could not stand them. I played 13-2 for maybe 2 hours, but the damn tutorial was SO DAMN LONG that I lost interest. Plus the time warping was a PITA.

I never played 13-3 because I never finished -2, but after seeing my brother chuck his PS3 controller at the ground on numerous occasions, I figured that maybe it was a difficult game, and 13-1 felt good when I beat it, so I didn't want to tarnish my memories of it.

XV cannot disappoint. It just can't. SE has a lot riding on this game than they know.

Ah, well if nobody cares to discuss the news I post, there's no point in posting it. It takes time to write that crap up.

hmm, I don't remember the tutorial for 13-2. Actually I barely remember much about the game, except that I got the platinum trophy for it. It was pretty easy. Story didn't make any sense, and I hated Serah. Oh well, the ending made it worth it. heh heh heh.

As for 13-3, it would've been difficult if I didn't look at a guide. That game also had a lot of time limit stuff, but there were ways to get around it so it wasn't tooooo annoying.

Anyway, to be on topic, I just found out that they're releasing yet another Project Diva game on PS4.. games, actually.  Future Sound & Colorful Tone. This was announced a few months ago but I missed it somehow. There will be more than 220 songs between the two games. Sega says they wll be offered "at a bargain price", so maybe I will finally use the 8000 yen sitting in my Japanese account wallet.

Sorry Peffy I actually didn't see your post on the previous page... my bad :P

But I can offer my opinions on those topics i suppose.

Cool, I really like the Project Diva games despite not liking vocaloids at all. Will wait for the Western release tho.. it will be a lot cheaper.

There's a lot of interesting game-related news these days. As you may be able to tell from this post, I like being an armchair journalist.

- Microsoft will "unify" their Xbox and Windows 10 platforms, so that all programs (Universal Windows Applications) will be able to run on any of their devices. It was also implied that there could be frequent hardware revisions for Xbox One, similar to how iPhones are released.

- Microsoft has finally decided to open the doors to cross-platform play, meaning that in multiplayer games, they will allow Xbox players to connect with PC players "and other consoles".

- Microsoft shut down Lionhead Studios, makers of the Fable series, and cancelled Fable Legends. They also shut down Press Play, most recently responsible for Max: The Curse of Brotherhood.

- A bunch of VR headsets will be released soon. Oculus Rift is out Mar 28, starting at $599 USD. HTC Vive is out Apr 5, $799. PlayStation VR is out in October, starting at $399.

- Nintendo is expected to announce details of their upcoming new hardware, currently known as "NX", at E3 this June. There are a ton of rumours regarding the look of the controller, whether or not it will be a home console or handheld or both.. etc.

- Tequila Works has "reacquired" the rights to their upcoming game, Rime, from Sony. Rampant rumours/speculation point to this game having a very troubled development, since they have shown very little of the game since the short reveal trailer at Gamescom 2013. Rime was supposed to be a PS4 exclusive, but supposedly Sony was unhappy with their progress and decided to stop bankrolling the project.

- In a valiant effort to piss me off, Amazon Japan is now flip-flopping on international shipping for games. I had 4 games sitting in my cart while I hesitated (for days) over whether I should order or not. I can confirm that all 4 of those games were able to ship internationally. Now, 2 of those games will not ship to my country, for no apparent reason.

- the Microsoft thing sounds good on paper, but in reality it's a very bad idea... if the windows 10 versions of Tomb Raider and Gears of War Remastered are any indication, they literally have no idea what Pc gamers want or how to even competently port a game over to the PC platform. We don't want to be spoon fed bullshit and we want to play games the way we want to not the way they want us too, it's such a joke that you cant even play Gears without having windows 10 installed and then we get to suffer through a port that looked like a team of monkeys worked on it for a week and was like "yeah this is good enough, right guys?". The sooner they realize this windows 10 store exclusive bullshit isn't flying and actually make the games available on Steam the better. The whole thing about revisions is retarded as well because at that point you should just say fuck it and buy a fucking PC instead of beating around the bush.

- cross platform between console and PC is old news, PlayStation has been doing it for years with certain games and the game in question that Microsoft is talking about is "Rocket League" which Sony has had for a year now and also has cross platform play between the console and PC players. Now the aspect of Microsoft being open to connect networks and between Xbox Live and PSN is pretty interesting because that could be huge for the console industry but then again Sony has no reason to help their biggest rival when they have been destroying Microsoft this generation, so it's probably not gonna happen.

- Fable has been shit for years and 3 tanked... so yeah really who gives a fuck at this point. let it die i say.

- VR sounds pretty cool and from what I hear it is pretty cool, but VR is not gonna just take off like a rocket ship. I hear all the time that VR is the future of gaming and you know what? I really do believe that it is the future but that future is not now... It's gonna take a long time before VR becomes a staple aspect or platform in gaming and even longer before it becomes a household technology. VR has definitely taken leaps and bounds technology wise in the past 10 years but it's gonna take a bit more before it's quite there. I could honestly talk about this topic all day but I won't because that would be a huge wall of text explaining the future of VR and what it could become and how long it would take to get there and my own theories on what it will be down the road and yeah let's just not xD.

- NX is pretty exciting right from the information the internet has gleamed so far from patents and other sources on the device. I myself believe it will be a cloud computing home console handheld hybrid that will take advantage of the cloud to overpower current gen consoles. it will probably be able to achieve 4k resolution at 30fps and 1080p at 60fps. and that's all i got on my predictions for the device. I do believe it likely we will get a full blown reveal and a actually name at E3 this year though and maybe a release date.

- I literally have no idea what Rime is... never heard of it.

- yeah that has to be a bitch for importers but yeah just download them digitally instead i guess? most people I know do that anyway because shipping is a bitch on imported video games.

^ It did take a while, but I was super bored at work, so it's alright. It's good to stretch my writing muscles.. ever since I finished school, my English has deteriorated.

Sorry Peffy I actually didn't see your post on the previous page... my bad :P

But I can offer my opinions on those topics i suppose.

Thank you for responding lol

I did go ahead and order 3 games from Amazon Japan. 1 of them is not available on PSN (Puyo Puyo Tetris). The other 2 games (Ryu ga gotoku 0 + Kiwami) ended up being a few bucks cheaper than buying them digitally, even with the import/shipping costs. The difference is that Amazon actually puts games on sale, whereas good PSN Japan sales are super rare. Also, I have to pay a markup on PSN codes (sold by 3rd parties), and sales tax is included in PSN prices (they are stripped out of Amazon's prices during the checkout process).

I think Microsoft's been saying they're aware of people's issues with the Win 10 store (like lack of graphics options or mod support) and they will address the issues. But of course they would say that. Still, I agree that the way they're trying to force Win 10 on everybody is kinda gross, and 99% of PC gamers use Steam so it's a huge uphill battle. However, if a PC person didn't have an Xbox One but really wanted to play the latest Forza, it's nice that they at least have some way to play it. I guess.

Since I posted, there've been credible rumours about the existence of "PS4.5". I'm not going to get upset about it until concrete details are released. If all the new games still work on my old PS4 I won't care, it's never been important to me to have the best graphics/framerate.

VR is more exciting for non-game applications, I think. Virtual tourism could be big. You could 'visit' famous landmarks all over the world. You could also, for instance, tour a planned building/house before it's ever built. But I'm not convinced that every home needs to have a VR headset. (unless people get really into VR porn... lol)

Release date is Sept 30, as previously leaked.

I can't believe they are making another CG movie.. and they got Lena Headey (my favourite GoT character Cersei) to voice Luna, so I might actually watch it in English. (maybe a surprising choice, Lena usually sounds pretty mature, I would've thought they'd pick a younger-sounding woman to voice her)

Also WTF at all the other stuff.

- Free mini anime series

- Free demo of content that won't be in the main game

- Free smartphone game

- Crazy limited collector's edition priced at $280 US.. that's $350 Cdn, no thank you

- Audi will make 1 replica car ..????

I want to know how much Square Enix has spent on this game & related projects

Some people have been reacting negatively to the demo, in terms of performance, graphical quality, and dislike of the battle system. I'm not worried about performance, it's just a demo and I would hope the finished game will be better optimized. I should really try it for myself, but I don't have time this week. Whatever, we all know I will play FFXV regardless.

I don't have too much input since I have not played the demo yet, but in terms of the battle system being shat on, I'm pretty sure it's just the whiners who complained about wanting them to stay true to the Turn-Based battle system.

Environment looks amazing. I will play the demo when I get home Peffs and get back to you (I will also add you on PSN).

Played the demo last night (right after it was released) and it's pretty nice. I'm not really sure what people are disliking about it apart from, yes, "IT'S NOT TURNBASED SO THEREFORE IT SUCKS". Playing with a tiny wee Noctis was cute. There's not much to the demo as a whole but it all looked pretty nice and amazing. I can't wait for the full game tbh.

Square is going all out on this one and I'm loving it so far. The anime seems nice (well, the first episode did) and I'm totally ready for more SE-CG goodies.

SE has to go all out for this. This is a game that has 10 years of history to it. All these side goodies are very great fluffers until the real deal is released. It's a very well executed strategy for them.

FFXV can either be the best game they've ever created, or the worst. It can only go 2 ways after so long.

Worst case scenario: People dislike the game and it receives bad reviews. With that in mind, I wouldn't be surprised if SE ended the FF series then and there.

I mean, 10 years to release this game, and you think they'd want to do it all over again for the same mediocre score by the naysayers?

Glad to hear you enjoyed the demo. I feel I will too. I'm gonna watch the Anime when I get home.

I'm still downloading the demo.... ;-;

I've been downloading since 10AM CST, I feel your pain.

I have no idea what is happening but I'm liking the demo so far. I honestly didn't really know what to expect but the graphics look lush and the gameplay, while not amazing, is still fun and something different yet balanced from SE. I'm debating whether I should spend the rest of my bday money on preordering the deluxe edition for it. That Collector's price can gtfo though!

In other news I've managed to preorder Fire Emblem Fates Special Edition before it ran out of stock yet again over here. Just got in. It was only a couple of hours before it was completely sold out from thr supposedly one UK store that can bring it in apart from the Nintendo site. The hype is real. I'm so happy I got it though because its the only way to have all three games on one cartridge. Well worth it even if I'm not usually a buyer of any sort of game editions (this'll be my downfall now, I can tell...)

Just finished the demo.

If you don't like the gameplay, I'd say keep playing it until it becomes second nature.

I loved this. It feels like I've finally found that piece that's been missing/lost in my gaming experience.

So I've only been casually seeing news about FFXV and I had no idea that it was not released yet lol....(coming from someone who doesn't care much about new games because said person is still playing old and unplayed games).

It seems rather ridiculous to release an anime series when the game is not even out yet though?? And those movies too?

I just found out that Suzuki Tatsuhisa voices Noctis though so that has piqued my interest a bit. And for that reason I really wish they will allow a Japanese voice option in the game, but that is highly doubtful.

The only new game I really care about is P5. :P
